Billed as the oldest hotel in Houston, it is located in the middle of downtown. They are continuing to do construction on it but as of today (July 11, 2025), it is mostly done with just the dining room to be completed. The rooms are nice and clean but a few do have a slight musty smell which you don't notice about 5 minutes after being in the room. The night can be noisy on the weekends if you stay on the side of the hotel facing the taller buildings downtown or the rail line. This is due to the party district that can be loud and run late in to the night with loud cars and motorcycles. The breakfast is good and typically priced for a hotel. There was no continental or buffet offering. Dinner was being served for the first night on the patio (same side you want to avoid due to noise) and was ok. Don't get the nachos as they are just chips with cheese poured over them and a few tiny servings of sides. The salmon was surprisingly good and a reasonable value. They are still working on this so give it time to mature. Kid friendly and quiet in the halls.

The Sam Houston, Curio Collection hotel is a historical hotel in Downtown Houston. I always think it's fun to stay and visit places that have some history to them, and it is nice that this place is pretty centrally located, too. The whole lobby was under construction during my stay, but service and staff were all really friendly and accommodating. Rooms are nice and clean. The shower water and pressure were great. I would recommend this hotel when visiting Houston!

We really enjoyed our stay in this Curio Collection hotel from Hilton. We try to always stay at the Curios if we have a choice, because they are unique and special properties. The same Houston was no exception. The staff here was very kind and professional. The room was lovely and very clean. The shower was AMAZING! We loved the lobby bar and restaurant although we didn't try the food. The drinks were delicious. Diamond the bartender was fantastic! We found the hotel to be in a great location with many things walkable and if we return to Houston, we will most certainly stay here again.

I stayed overnight for an Astros game a couple weeks ago. Although the hotel staff was friendly and provided good service, the hotel itself does not live up to the Curio Collection standards. The hotel is extremely dated and the rooms are very dark and dusty. I've stayed at many Curio Collection hotels across the country and also the C Baldwin a couple blocks away. If I'd known this hotel was so dated, I would've booked the C Baldwin as the prices were identical for the night. The location was great and in walking distance to the ballpark.

Loved the taste of history staying here. It's an old hotel so there are some parts that are a little run down but not dated, just aged. Location is good for walk to Minute Maid Park, about 15 minute walk door to door. Staff was amazing! From the valet to the desk clerk, everyone was kind, helpful, and spreading joy to everyone.

Looks like it's the Sam Old Sam Old. Was here a long time ago and then here again recently after it added the "Curio Collection" moniker, and I'm "Curio" as to what that actually means. It's a good hotel for sure with nice service for sure - which is where it gets three stars - but it could easily end up being a 1-star if I had paid full price, because a lot of the rooms still smell and some of the hallways smell, and it doesn't seem like an expensive hotel at all, but more like an old Motel type of place with a fancy facade in downtown, relying on history and location over quality and cleanliness. And they are masses of homeless people outside, and at this point, with the rooms being such low quality, I start wondering why they don't just give the homeless people access to the rooms, because it kind of smells and sometimes even feels like it already had a lot of homeless people living in here.

Please do not allow these pictures to receive you as they did me. I would not stay at this place and wouldn't ever recommend it to anyone. The customer service was great which is why they got 2 stars instead of one but the overall condition, smell, room interior feeling of this place is very uncomfortable and feels like weird/bad energy overall. The rooms smell like they have been flooded and the towels were hard with holes. Parking is not free of course. They have metered street, valet, or self parking garages. The tv wasn't working properly and it flickered by itself all night as if a ghost were in the room. I had to turn it off but I didn't get any quality sleep as it was very uncomfortable here. Depending on your room location, residential area across the street can look directly in your room and gives you nor such a good feeling even about allowing natural light in. I cut my 5 day booking to less that 10 hours Bc I couldn't take another hour. The toilet ran all night as well and they did switch my room in the middle of the night but the other room was no different.

Some friends and I stopped by last night, we were going to get a room but they were booked. So we just sat at the bar for dinner and drinks. Our bartender Honie (sorry if misspelled) was wonderful. The food was fantastic as well. Highly recommend stopping by the Pearl Bar if you're ever in the area.

Very nice hotel. Main issue is just no attached parking so we paid $30 to park in the lot behind the building.
