Absolutely love that Houston has a Yin Ji Chang Fen, a Guangzhou based chain that specializes in steamed rice noodle rolls and congee! The city's lack of better Cantonese style delicacies no doubt makes this spot a top contender. With silky smooth steamed rice noodle rolls that fill the plate as their main menu item, there are many other food and drink items to try on any given visit. The apps like fried chicken wings, fried dough stick/youtiao, braised beef brisket are quite okay though a bit steep on the pricing. Even lettuce cooked in a house sauce is about $9. The rice rolls are a better deal ringing in anywhere from $4.45 for a plain rice roll with absolutely nothing in or on top of it, to $8.45 for something like their House Special Beef Brisket Rice Roll. The rice rolls have a lot of lettuce and some chives in them, which can be a breaker for some people who don't prefer all that jazz. The consistency of the rice noodle rolls can also be better, as I've gotten overdone shrimp that is more rubbery that normal inside my Shrimp with Chives Rice Roll. The House Special Shrimp and Beef with Chives Rice Roll is great for those who want the flavor of both meat and seafood. The House Special Beef Brisket Roll is one of their higher cost items on the menu which has pretty good flavor but is not as tender as preferred and is only topped onto the actual rice roll, not stuffed in it or nearly as much in portion size as the other rolls. The Pork Liver Congee is a bowl that can be easily shared by 3-4 persons so everyone can sample some, and soul warming to say the least (though the liver could be less chewy depending how long it is cooked). The service can be a hit or miss and somewhat confusing. Once you arrive and enter the door you'll either be seated right away if lucky or need to enter your details onto their electronic pad so that your number can be called when a table is ready for your party. In addition, the wait staff can be not very attentive and you may need to flag them down for additional items or even walk up to the counter to settle the bill. Overall a nice spot to fill the steamed rice noodle roll void in the city. So go ahead and pick out a milk tea or coffee and wash it all down!

I prefer restaurants with smaller menus, especially when they focus on a particular type of dish or two like this place. If you enjoy the shrimp rice rolls that Dim Sum restaurants serve, you most definitely should try this place. They specialize in rice rolls and offer a variety of fillings like beef, pork, chicken, and fish. For vegetarian options, you can order regular egg, preserved egg, dough stick, and even just plain rice rolls. The rolls are freshly made to order and have a soft and chewy texture. A few things I noticed that differ from the Dim Sum shrimp rice rolls are, the sauce here is slightly more savory than the sweeter sauce served at Dim Sum restaurants and they add shredded cabbage to most of the rolls. They also add cabbage to their congee. I ordered the preserved egg rice roll to try since I've never had the black preserved egg before, and I was not a fan of it at all. The egg had a jelly textured that threw me off so unless you know exactly what it is and absolutely love it, I do not recommend ordering it. The space is open and clean. While their service isn't terrible, the staff often gather around the counter and chat away with each other which makes it difficult for them to be attentive to customers. However, once you catch their attention, they promptly attend to you.

My friend and I wanted to try some of the Chinese food Houston has to offer and both agreed that some Chang Fen sounded great. We arrived 15 minutes after they opened and they already had a line out the door! We decided to put our name on the waiting list and waste a few minutes at the claw machine next door. After grabbing a few plushies, we came back and was seated immediately. We ordered the house special, and a few other chang fens. I took a bite out of the house special chang fen and my friend described my face as if I was that one food critic in that movie Ratatouille. Holy balls was that good. All the other noodle rolls were good but that one made out trip special. Would definitely come back here just to try out their congee. This was definitely the best highlight of our Houston Trip.

A well known long lasting restaurant chain open they first location in Houston, they are known for the rice roll and congee here and they were definition tasty and the rice roll was bag as well. You can order by scanning the QR code at your table or talk to one of the waitstaff. We were there at 10:50AM as they open at 11AM on Sunday and there were already people waiting in line. We look at the menu ahead of time and known what we want for lunch.

I'm so happy we have a rice roll specialty place like this in Houston now! This is a great place to grab a quick bite. The flavors here are great, although I really wish it was a lot hotter when the food is delivered, not quite as piping hot as NYC Chinatown. I think the servers waited around before delivering it :( The portion size:price ratio here is just right, I think if they charged any more then everyone would rather go to a dim sum place. The curry fish balls were surprisingly addicting and reminded me of Vietnamese beef stew. I will definitely be back to try more items on their menu!

My friend wanted to try Yin Ji Chang Fen 银记肠粉 because she saw a post on Chow Down In Chinatown Facebook Group which gave it a raving review. For me and her, this was below our expectations. It's my fault. I should just go eat lunch at MIAN after we saw the unimpressed menu. Why do people spent hours waiting in line outside? I think it's because of the price. Merely $7.49 per dish. But the portion is small, like for a light breakfast at best. When I want rice rolls, I want them rolled separately to share and not breaking apart to let ingredients fall off. The congee was bland. My friend had to add salt. I eat bland food so I'm okay. The beef brisket had inconsistent textures. Some tender and some tough. Overall, just meh for me. She ordered a HK milk tea and she hated it. First few sips were ok and then it became watery as ice melted. I had same experience as Jeffrey P had as it opened 5 months ago, the food delivered to wrong table. Not sure how to train the employees to get food to the right table.

My friends and I really enjoyed our lunch at Yin Ji Chang Fen! We went shortly after opening time on a busy Saturday, so there was about a 20 minute wait. We all split a beef brisket rice roll, which was very tender and flavorful. Other items we ordered were the shrimp and beef rice roll, dough sticks, and the lai wan congee. I liked the texture of their rice rolls and it had a nice chew to it. The service was fairly quick and the portions were large. Overall the meal was very comforting, although it was warm outside.

It's a brand new spot in China town, so we want to try it. I was surprised by the menu. Only few items were there. I'm a big back for congee and dim sum. So I enjoyed. However, for other people, the menus are too blend. The tastes were too blend. Wish they have more options and more flavorful.

Saw a lot of amazing reviews in Yelp and thought to try it out. After HK food street closed, been looking for a congee place. Upon entering, place is bright and clean. Came mid-afternoon so was not busy. I was a little confused if I should order in the counter first but was informed to grab a table if dining in. Ordered the sliced pork and century egg congee. The congee was big. Enough for 2 to share. Congee was tasty and had the right amount of pork and egg. In addition, they offer condiments on the table to adjust to your taste. In addition, people rave about the shrimp and beef Chong fan. Again, this is also good size. It was delicious and there was enough sauce to have every piece covered. The noodles were soft and thin. Tasted freshly made but am not an expert. Highly recommend coming here when craving for congee and Chong fan! Staff was friendly and pretty chatty. Will be back to try the other menu items like fired chicken wing which looked delicious another table.

I'd give this place a 3.5/5! I came in on a Saturday night around 7 PM and there were plenty of seats open so thankfully there wasn't a wait. I ordered: HK Style Milk Tea Shrimp with Chives Rice Rolls Charsiu BBQ Pork Rice Rolls Golden Fried Chicken Wings The service was standard and the food came out within 10-15 minutes. The HK style milk tea was decent! I could properly taste the tea and it wasn't overly sweet (some people may prefer their milk tea's very sweet but I prefer it this way so I was pleasantly surprised). The Rice rolls were both delicious! The charsiu was seasoned well and the shrimp was okay! The rice rolls were sturdy enough where it woudn't fall apart when trying to pick it up but they were also soft enough where it was able to be split when breaking it apart to share. I will say though, the price is pretty steep compared to the cheung fun you get at a dim sum restaurant. Not to mention, their shrimps are much larger and the rice rolls there have a more satisfying texture. I'm not saying this place's cheung fun is bad by any means but I would personally get rice rolls at an actual dim sum restaurant. As for the chicken wings, they were the most juicy, crispy wings I've had in a while! This spot really nailed the crunch factor and I was blown away by how juicy every bite was. The only thing I wish was different was the flavor. Although the sweet chili sauce helped, the wings itself were lacking in flavor. Overall, not a bad spot and I hope to try their congee because everyone has been raving about it in the reviews!
