Alexa, the amazing bartender is always ready with a smile and remembers your drink. The food is great and you can grab an ice cream cone on your way out. I will definitely be returning!

We kept driving by and kept saying we have to go and try them out... Well, that day was yesterday. We wanted to have a nice lunch out on a Sunday afternoon, and It was a beautiful sunny day outside. There were seven tables next to big windows, five of those were booths that would have been a great fit for my wife, my son, and myself. Instead they seated us at a very oddly shaped table in the darkest corner of the restaurant . On a bright Sunday afternoon at a table in the corner and no lights. I could not even see the menu without having to stand and turn my menu to the windows. The food did not look appealing in the dark. And when I looked at other people eating their food looked great under good lighting. It was not a pleasant dining experience. The oddly shaped table, like a half circle roughly 6 foot across meant me and my wife had to reach full arms length to grab for a chip and dip for salsa dripping at all across the table and over everything on it. Since we are on the subject of chips -- this is the only Mexican restaurant that I have ever been to that serves cold chips. It like they keep them in the fridge. One of the best things about going out to eat a at a Mexican restaurant is the fresh piping hot chips. I was graving Chili Relleno but they put bacon on it, then I was thinking Chicken Chimichanga but they fill theirs with ground beef. I ended up ordering something that sounded much better than it tasted having more sauce than sustenance. All of their beans have pork in them so my food only came with a small side of rice. They didn't even offer me extra rice to replace the beans like anyone else would have. They could have made this 100% better than what it was by asking us where we want to sit, of asking us if we have a seating preference like any other restaurant. Try serving hot chips, offer vegetarian option for beans do you not know roughly half the population does not eat pork products for one reason or another? And why on earth would you put bacon on Chili Relleno? Did I mention they are over-priced, meal for my wife, my kid, and myself was just under 100.00 with a 20% gratuity out of courtesy.

Unbelievable! I was billed $2.25 extra because my daughter wanted bbq sauce instead of ketchup with the fries. The waiter said his manager told him to charge it that way. The fries were super undercooked, just completely white. Service was very poor today. Disappointing!

We'd eaten at the original Johnny Tamales in Pasadena many years ago. It was really good. This new location is a lot closer to home and it's just as great. My wife and I shared a Combo Matador platter. It was very tasty. Two Del Mar Shrimp, two fall off the bone JT BBQ ribs, Grilled sausage, Beef and chicken fajitas. The meal came with guacamole, pico de gallo. cheese, rice.....we substituted more refried beans for the rice...and flour tortillas which are made in house. We shared a JT frozen peach margarita, it went down real easy. Discovered they do chicharron (low carb option instead of chips) so we got some. The complimentary chips and red and green salsas were very good. The chicharrons came with two more sauces, one of which had some serious heat...me likey! The service was as good as the food....especially Alanna E. We'll be back for more goodies. I enjoyed a ground beef enchilada with chopped onions on the side.

Johnny Tamales was an enjoyable restaurant, overall. Our server was kind and attentive (even when I asked for two refills). However, the food was relatively average and the table was strangely low in the booth in which I sat. Also, the exterior had some sort of mess around the sign that disrupted my otherwise pleasant photo. The quesadillas I ordered were nothing to write home about, but my friend and I had a fun time which is all I was truly hoping for from my experience at Johnny Tamales. Glad I tried it, not rushing to return!

Let's think of this place as a Gringo's without the long wait time. Food was good, service was good, and the free soft serve was all that my kids wanted. Yay!

Good place and not overly crowded for a Sunday afternoon. Big portions and good service but not expensive. Music was a little on the loud side. Big bar! I got the Bailito. Didn't care for the Black beans but the Pinto beans were spot on! Cheese Enchilada was great as well as the flautas. But again didn't care for the chicken quesadilla. Chips and salsa were good. Would definitely recommend and will be back.

Stopped by this restaurant to have a quick Tex Mex meal. My kids loved the queso that came in the fried tortilla bowl! It was a bit small but was enough to hold a table of 4 over just until the meal came. I ordered a combo meal which was just enough food. I was expecting a larger quesadilla but luckily I wasn't too hungry otherwise I might have needed to order something else in addition. Service was pretty good, apart from the missing tortillas for fajitas which took some time to get. We came at 5:30pm on a week night so there was a wait or much of a rush which was a bit weird to have to wait 7-10 mins for tortillas. Definitely adding this location into our rotation of restaurants nearby our home.
