Long time customer. The menu has changed and last few take out/visits were disappointing. Personnel turnover has affected their product negatively. Service and ambience are fine.

I had the summer. Margarita with watermelon. Big ass piece of watermelon. It's really good. Too pretty, but damn good. My he-man ego required me to re-order a second regular margarita and a large glass. (Pictured) Staff was a ridiculously attentive and the manager check the tables. Good customer service. You'd be an idiot not to try this place.

Going to another restaurant I was always interested in La Escondida. I had never heard anything about them, didn't want to waste my money nor be disappointed. Ohhh but to my surprise... let me just say I had to go back a 2nd time it was so good! I mean both times I pretty much ordered the same thing... Cream Cheese Stuffed soapillas, Chicken and Spinach Quesadilla, and a Fajita Combo Plate. The food came with Salsa and Chips. The Quesadillas were a bit soggy but still good. Also the Fajita tacos were also a soggy since they seem to use a liquid cheese. The flavor of the meat/food altogether was still good. The chips were not good though as they taste mostly burnt and had a weird after taste. However the Cream Cheese Stuffed soapillas were sooo delicious. I will most definitely eat here again! Both times I picked up my food the restaurant was nice and not a lot of people there. They also serve breakfast only on Saturdays. Be sure to sign up to be a VIP hopefully they have some good rewards and discounts for us as we support this business.

I was very, very disappointed with one of my favorite restaurants in our area. The chips were way overcooked and they did bring me new ones which was good. But they charged me for things that I never knew about. That is unacceptable! I was also very disappointed in the communication.

We love the fajitas here, especially the lunch special which is a better value. Lunch doesn't come with guac or cheese though. I really like that their fajitas come with zucchini and yellow squash instead of your typical bell peppers. It's a good different. They also have some delicious chunky potato salad that they always give with their fajitas. Today we got the sweetheart special with appetizer, fajitas for 2 including shrimp, beef, and chicken, and cheesecake sopapillas for $50. We figured since we were going to order fajitas anyways, we might as well do this! I expected the portion size of fajitas to be a bit larger though and we had to ask for more tortillas. The sopapillas were light (very thin dough) with some cheesecake filling. It was a good combo but probably wouldn't order it again. The corn appetizer was spot on and the empanada was small but crispy and probably could have used a bit more filling, but still tasty. Overall, we left with our fajita craving satisfied!

The struggle to find good authentic Mexican food continues... Where to start? First, it's a very limited menu and not a lot of typical Mexican dishes. Chimichangas? Nope. Burritos? Nope. Shredded beef? Nah...how bout a carne asada plate? You guessed it, no! My wife and son both got street tacos. Street tacos with brisket instead of carne asada huh? The tacos came and both said they were seriously under seasoned and lacked flavor. Asked for hot sauce... you know, tapatio, chalula, el yucateco- Mexican hot sauces. They said they only have Tabasco. Tabasco on tacos? Nahhhh I'm good. My daughter got the Laredo and she was cool with it overall. I still don't understand why everyone does ground beef tacos out here. That's for homemade cheap n easy tacos. When I'm at a Mexican restaurant I expect a better cut of meat and for it to be marinated. I guess Arizona spoiled us. I just grabbed the beef fajita enchiladas. Question- why don't they put ENCHILADA sauce on enchiladas?? Instead it's a thick red sauce they call gravy. Not my style. The rice was good tho The margaritas I kept seeing good reviews on... laughable. Very disappointing. My wife got a watered down "beer margarita" and I got the margarita flights that were pure syrup. Overall, I wouldn't recommend and wouldn't go back. On to the next option.

Definitely not upscale/fine dining. We originally were going to Lupe Tortilla but were quoted a pretty significant wait so decided to give La Escondida a try instead. We were a party of 8 so I called to see what the wait time was and they said there was no wait. We drove the 2 miles down the road and they were essentially wide open. Our table was ready quickly and immediately noticed a strong aroma of dirty mop water. At the end of the meal, we smelled Fabuloso. All for keeping a restaurant clean but we were turned off by those scents and all felt that kind of cleaning should happen when customers aren't present. The chips, salsa, and refried black beans hit the table almost immediately. However, we did have to wait upwards of 10 minutes just for waters. We had to actually order water, it wasn't the usual automatic water you'll find at restaurants. The water also had a weird taste to it, almost like there was a little touch of bleach still left on the glasses or something. We weren't given a drink menu and I didn't get the impression that they had physical drink menus, only QR code drink menu access. The 4 alcoholic drinks did take a pretty long time to get to the table. I got a smoked strawberry margarita. I was confused when they brought out the strawberry flavor in a shot glass on the side. The drink was very very very lightly smoked in front of us. Definitely more for presentation and aesthetic than flavor. And when I'm eating or drinking something, flavor matters the most to me. So, for having to complete the drink myself and for it being underwhelming with the smoke flavor was already a big turn off. I tried it without the strawberry and was very unimpressed and that unfortunately didn't change once I added the strawberry flavoring to it. I didn't even finish half of the drink. Others at the table tried it and agreed it wasn't great. I should've sent it back but didn't. As far as food goes, we were all pretty underwhelmed. A common theme from start to finish was a lack of seasoning. Everything just seemed to need a little bit of salt or a little more spice. I ordered the chicken fajitas and was very confused when there was some sort of mushy something on the sizzling plate next to the chicken and onions. I was informed that it was mashed potatoes but they did exchange it for rice with no issue. The flour tortillas were amazing though. I was a bit disappointed they only gave me three of them for my fajitas because that was the one thing I just didn't want to end. They were perfectly fluffy and tasted so on point. So, outside of the flour tortillas, just be prepared to do some seasoning on everything from the chips, to the guac, to the beans, to the salsa, to the protein you order, to the rice, literally everything.

Good food, good service at the bar. A little high for what you get. I came during HH on a Wednesday. Chips and Queso were $8, which I thought were kind of high-priced for how little queso you actually got. The margarita was only $6- good price but not much alcohol- I mainly tasted the sweet and sour mixer but very little tequila. I think the food is too high for the amount that you get. I think I got a taco and enchilada combo and it was $14. However, for a Mexican restaurant, you expect the portion sizes to be pretty large, and these portion sizes were pretty small. The food was just okay, and kind of bland, hardly any spice.

The food had no seasoning, near flavorless. We got take out and the cheese and sour cream was just enough for one fajita. The salsa was very bland. The vegetables for the fajitas included bland vegetables with two slices of whole corn including the uneditable part and the stock of asparagus, without the tips, and not even one jalepeno.. The only thing we liked was the tortillas. Just sad considering they claim to be upscale. Not even close. We would never consider trying this place again,.
