I haven't rented a car in many years, but I found myself needing transportation due to car issues. I was unaware that Avis and Budget were under the same company. I made a reservation for a vehicle from Budget's fleet and was able to utilize a discount through USAA. The store is small and is near Randall's in the Silverlake Village Shopping Center. They're open daily, though they have limited hours on the weekends. The inside looks like it hasn't been updated since the height of the pandemic. There's only 3 chairs spaced 6 feet apart and they have huge plexiglass barriers in front of the counter. The reflection from the windows and plexiglass made it difficult to actually see the service agent. Michael was the employee who helped me when I picked up the car and dropped it off. I reserved an intermediate sized vehicle (Toyota Corolla or equivalent). Michael gave me a 2025 Mazda CX-50. It only had 300 miles on it and still had the new car smell. The owner's manual hadn't even been opened! This car was extremely nice and drove really well. Michael went over the guidelines of the rental including potential fees. I had initially rented for 4 days, however he extended it to 5 days. I was under the impression that I had until the end of the week as he informed me that it would be due on Friday at noon. It wasn't until I had dropped off the car and paid that I noticed that the due date was actually on Thursday, not Friday. When I returned the car on Friday morning, he told me he thought I was bringing the car back the night before. I told him that I thought it was due on Friday and he said that it was, and I brought it back on time. When I reviewed the itemized receipt, I saw that I was charged an extra day plus the late fee. I don't know if this was an honest mistake, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. As nice as he was, it was incredibly annoying to discover the late fee. I should have double checked the paperwork instead of taking his word, so that's ultimately on me. If it weren't for the mix up on the return date and subsequent late fee charge, this experience would be 5 stars. If I rent again from this location, I'll be sure to take a closer look at the due date.

I had been using this place for years....but on the 15th of June they stole over 900.00 from my credit card. These people are scammers they reps barely speak English & they say one thing and confirm another and later you find out that they entered things in wrong and charge you outrageous fees that no one would ever agree upon. I spoke to a rep that told me the situation would be fixed when I returned the car. But little did I know they said they do not know why the rep would tell me that. I told them I needed to speak to a manager but then they tell me none was available and they would have one give me a call back within 48 hours. It's now been 9 days. I have emailed, called etc and no one is even trying to help me to fix this issue. I really expected more from a company you have been doing business with for many years. I told them I have the case#, name and badge number that was given to me that said the account would be fixed but no one what's to hear it. Then then I told them they have voice recording I know they can listen too to fix the issue cause they are saying it's my word against the rep. But a voice recording should prove what they need to know. Plus the other rep told me that he put notes in the account to .are the changes but they all keep saying they see no notes. So how did I get all this info if it wasn't given to me by your rep. Then you go take this money out of my account without me authorizing these fees. I will never use this company again and now I'm having to go through my bank to try to get it resolved. This is truly uncalled for. Not good for business. I will never recommend this company to anyone. They steal & are liars. STAY AWAY !!!!

Rented a 15 passenger van, pick up time suppose to be 9am we got to Avis in Pearland at 840am and they said our van is still in distribution. So we waited for an hour, and we wasted our time and also will be behind for our trip. When we called customer service, the lady pretty much blew us off without giving us anything except saying go to our competitor and they will reimburse us. You can't just find a 15 passenger van last minute. Horrible customer service. It's not the locations fault. Just customer service was horrible over the phone.

This company has horrible customer service . My Boyfriend couldn't return the car because he had covid and someone told him he wouldn't be charged any extra fees and someone would pick up the car and take care of it. No one picked up the car and when my boyfriend finally returned the car after his quarantine was over they still charged him extras fees. He called the company before the car was due and explained the situation and they said he wouldn't be charged extra fees and it would be picked up. My boyfriend called customer service and explained the situation and they said they couldn't do anything about it . Bad customer service. What was he supposed to do ? Return a contaminated car? And the person who he spoke to said he wouldn't be charged fees but another customer service rep told him he would have to pay fees and they couldn't do anything about it after he returned the car. Untrustworthy company

I have been an Avis Preferred member since 2010. I have never rented a car from a locally owned, independent Avis facility. Honestly, I didn't realize there were franchises, until this experience. I didn't want my girlfriend to put the miles on her car for an upcoming trip so I rented a car from this location for her, but in her name of course. I have ALWAYS paid "immediately", online, instead of at the end of the rental. But, after this experience, I will tell you, it will be extremely hard to go back to Avis... but it certainly will NOT be hard to NEVER rent from this independent Avis location again! The entire experience was terrible from start to finish. The store front closes at 6:00 PM. DO NOT be even one minute late! We were there at 6:02 PM and could see the inside of the store driving up through the parking lot. There was no one there at 6:00 PM. The next morning, when we asked the manager, Mike, why no one was there, when they knew that they had another rental due, he said "If no one is standing in this lobby before 6:00 PM, we are gone"! Literally! "if you are not here at exactly the time you have on your contract then you are considered a "no show"! Thank GOD the airport locations (which we later found out are corporate owned) do not operate this way, there would be a TON of pissed off travelers not getting rentals (missed flights, delayed flights, etc.). We then had no other choice but to change the rental pick up to the next morning, with absolutely no price change whatsoever since we are now renting for one day less. And, Mike said, "sorry, there is nothing I can do for you"! But, what's even worse, is that we called customer support to try and get a little help and the support desk is in Mexico. The person speaking to my girlfriend told her that there was nothing she could do either. She asked to be transferred to a manager, someone with authority to help. She said "there is no one, they will tell you the same as me"! We did get transferred, but she was right, this so called manager, was not only help-less, but very rude to my girlfriend until I got on the phone. Then he tried to be rude to me as well. What the heck is going on AVIS??? Finally we decided to just let it go and I would call Avis customer service the next day and try and get someone to help. They would not even talk to me without her being on the phone with me. I get security and all, but sheesh! Anyway... speed forward to the return of the car, to the same location we picked it up. We brought it back a day early, well... dropped it off the night before it was due. Thank god for the drop box! Oh wait.. nope, the drop box was locked! Even had a sign saying do not drop off the car nor put the key in the drop box! What???? Why have it?! Sooo... my girlfriend had to re-arrange her schedule so she could come back and drop the key off the next day. Mike was working the front desk again. When she asked about the drop box he said "it's never locked"... I must be a weakling or came the only time it was ever locked! She asked about the sign on the box stating you can't drop a vehicle or the keys off after business hours... he said, "that's on every box, we just have to do that"! She asked why and he said, "it's policy"! What? You adhere to policy for a sign, BUT, you do NOT have to be in the store until the designated closing time, if no one is standing in the lobby?! Wowsa! You know, if the manager had been the least bit sympathetic or even slightly helpful, I think the experience would have been a bit more tolerable, but his attitude toward us and the situation just makes you wonder why a person like that is even in the service industry to begin with?! The moral of the story is, don't be late, you can't change your contract locally, don't try and get assistance from the store... oh crap, never mind! Rent your car somewhere else!

I recently rented a car from AVIS, in Pearland, TX, for 7 days. I'd pointed out their office window at the car I wanted to rent but another sales person said "give her the Hyundia Sonota", (a different car). I passed on their insurance since I have my own. We were given the keys across the counter and left on our trip. Note: The car was pulled into a parking space so that the front of the car was not visible to us. No one ever offered me a walk around, nor did I think to do one. The day after returning the car I received a phone call from Avis saying that I need to come in and fill out an accident report. Also they were charging me a cleaning fee $70 for excessive dirt. And for gas because the tank was half empty. I was in shock. I'd forgotten to fill the gas tank so that part was understandable. Then I did an internet search googling "car rental damage" and was shocked to find so many people being charged for car damage that they didn't cause. The scam is to get multiple customers to pay for a single repair over and over again to cover their fleet maintenance costs. Today I went to Avis to meet the manager-in-training of this location in Pearland, Tx. He showed me the damage there was a scratch on the hood and the grill appeared to be dented in. The damage looked old. I told him I had not seen it nor had I been offered a walk around. I was not involved in any incident with this car. Also, I had no intention of completing a accident report for an accident that didn't happen. He said signing the paperwork was saying that the car was in perfect condition?? I told him the only report I'm filling out is a police report. Then I called 911 and asked if they could come resolve this dispute. A Brazoria County Sherriff's deputy arrived, observed the damage and said that it looked like the damage was old. He spoke to the manager-in-training, returned outside and told me that I needed to fill out the accident report but not sign if didn't feel comfortable doing so. I wrote down that the damage looked old, that no walk around was ever offered, and did not sign the form. Also the manager showed me pics on his cell phone of the back seat floor and back seat where there was some trash I will admit. This was a 7 day car trip, nothing required heavy cleaning, just throwing away the trash and sweep. They charged me $70 stating that the car had to be "sent out" for cleaning yet the outside hadn't been washed because there were still bugs on the front of it. So that didn't add up either. I believe it was another way of making even more money from off me. Note: While I was waiting for the police to arrive, a sales person walked out to the parking lot with a customer and a paper and pen in hand and they proceeded to do a walk around on the car he was renting. It felt like they were rubbing my nose in it.

I recently reserved a car with AVIS from this location. I don't think they have an interest in doing business. Sure, things can vary, but generally i have experienced a willingness of an agent in other places to provide me a solution and keep the customer. I needed a pick up from my location. Here is roughly how the conversation went: Me: Hi, i have reserved car with this location and i just wanted to see if you provide pick up service. Agent: We do, but it has to be within the 5 mile radius and should have a 24 hr notice Me: Sure, i think i satisfy both the criteria. Do you want my reservation number ? Note: The conversation is taking place at 10:30 am the day before Agent: Ok what time tomorrow ? Me: 4:00 pm Agent: We don't pick up at the last hour Me. Ok. I can change my reservation to 3 pm. Agent: I am not sure, we may be busy. Me: Ok, since there is nothing certain, i may need to cancel this. Agent: Sure.
