Pforgive me, pfriends, for I am about to plunge into a pfun-filled praise of the perennially popular Deutschen Pfest, hosted by the in the pflourishing town of Pflugerville, right in the heart of Pfluger Park. This German-themed extravaganza is packed to the brim with pflavors, pfun, and a whole lot of Pflugerville spirit! But before you spurt off to this pfestival with cash in hand, be aware that Deutschen Pfest no longer accepts cash for admission, so you best be prepared to buy your tickets online @ deutschenpfest.com. Or, for those of you with a penchant for traditional German garb, dust off your lederhosen and dirndls, because wearing these gets you in for free! No pfun pfest would be pfullfilling without prodigious draft beers. Pfriends, they got'em here. Oh, the glory of lifting a gigantic beer stein and taking a deep gulp of that golden, frothy goodness! Oh, and the bratwurst! These bratwursts are the real deal, grilled to perfection and bursting with meat juice. I guess you could say that the pflavor is pfabulous! This is the second year in a row to visit, and the layout of the pfestival this year was nearly a photocopy of last year's event. But hey, if it ain't broke, don't pfix it, right? All-in-all, Deutschen Pfest in Pfluger Park is an annual option for anyone looking to indulge in some German-themed pfun, beers, food, games, rides, vendors, and some pfantastic music. So prost to Deutschen Pfest!

I saw so many posts on Facebook about the Dutchens Festival, all advertising it as "the annual Dutchens Fest -- the biggest festival in Pflugerville!" I was so excited to attend, especially since it was my first time. It was promoted as a fun, community-based event -- but the reality was completely different once we arrived. As a family of eight, we were told there was an entrance fee of $10 per person for one day, $15 per person the next day, and around $20 on the last day. You're telling me I'd have to pay $80 just to walk in with my family to walk inside a public park with vendors? On top of that, there were tons of small businesses, vendors, and rides for the kids -- which is great -but you have to pay for that as well. Nowhere online did it clearly say there was an admission fee just to enter -- $10 the first day, $15 the next, and $20-$25 the final day. And keep in mind, this was held at a public park. They completely gated the entire area off, like literally fenced it off every inch with metal gates so no one could enter without paying -- it felt like a lockdown, not a festival. It's honestly frustrating that a city like Pflugerville, which is supposed to be so "community-oriented," would host an event that excludes people based on whether they can afford to pay just to walk into a public space. What if someone just wanted to support local small businesses or grab food from a food truck? If you have a family of 4, 5, 6, 7 -- you're dropping $50, $60, $70, $80 just to get in. The advertising was misleading, and the setup felt more about profit than community. I really hope future events are more transparent and actually represent the community spirit they claim to have. Also, where exactly do these funds go? Because ,I have no clue. They should be ashamed charging people to enter a public park -- especially when everyone inside is already spending money.

First I want to say keep an open mind here and have fun!!!! There have been a lot of friends who were disappointed with what is behind the gate after they pay to get in. This is Pflugerville so it won't be too large. There was a very irate woman who felt there wasn't much inside here. I agree with the other reviewers that there isn't too much of German culture as one may expect. The admission to the fest is reasonable. $5 on Friday and Sunday and $7 for Saturday. The proceeds from the entrance fee goes back to Pflugerville's park projects. Isn't that a plus? The festival offers a carnival, children's area, a parade Saturday morning, Deutschen Pfest 5K, vendors, food trucks and even live music. The park is very shady with nice trees. The festival is yearly and occurs on the third weekend of May. I love to catch the German band, Oma and the Oompahs perform. My friends love coming here yearly to sit and listen to music. Who doesn't like vendor food? There is a petting area for the kids. If you haven't been, come check it out.

Meh. A coworker told me to check this festival out because it was such a hype extravaganza in p-ville. I don't think it was a bust but it certainly wasn't the best for my demographic. Others have highlighted the high cost for entry into the park, $7 gets you a wristband and thus you shell out that times how ever big your family/party is. Then move into the park where you have carnival style rides and little pony rides and petting zoos. Cute, but very centered towards kiddos so my husband and I weren't about to be those adults beers in hand and riding the spinny rides til we puked. Let's save that for 2 Wednesday's from now? The booths and activities are scattered through the huge park with live music playing by the stage for all to listen to. There were a variety of food vendors which reminded me of the typical outdoor food vendors at any festival you go to. Price point is $7-15 depending on where you stop and what you get. I got a simple Asian meal plate for $8 then husband got a turkey leg for $8 as well. Water was sold for $1 and the women's line for the restroom was extremely long. Yikes. Extremely uncomfortable were at times the 5+ religious affiliation groups trying to reel folks in, an Allstate local office being pretty pushy on sales and other "spam" you win $500 to the Bahamas type of spin the wheel nonsense. Vendors were neat to scope as well as their unique wares but nothing caught my eye that made me want to purchase something. The funniest thing was seeing a beat up car hosted by Caliber Collision for the Pflugerville HS to get 6 hits for $1 donation. Kids were certainly having fun bashing it good with sledgehammers. Glad I went to check out but not feeling like I missed out on anything major. Thanks for the experience though!

Man, it pains me to do this...but I'm going to have to knock you down a star. The Pfest is becoming less Deutsch and just an excuse for people to get drunk. Now, that's not a bad thing, but I really go for the German Pfun. Why the less than happy this year? 1. Only one stand selling schnitzel. Only chicken. Chicken schnitzel????? Um, that's not a thing! 2. The German music set gets shorter and shorter each year. I want more German music...at a German Pfest. Makes sense...right? 3. Only 2 German beer options. Really? XX and other crap beers abundant, but only 2 Germans...both wheat beers. I still always have fun, but it just seems the German is slowly being squeezed out. Vendors are getting more pushy and there seems to be less artisans than before. I guess I'll need to make more trips up to Walburg to get my Gunther fix... Pro tips: -Bring folding chairs. You'll thank me later. -Arrive a little later, after all the kids start to leave. You will INDEED thank me later. -Bring water.

The parade was supposed to start at 1000. We rolled into Pflugerville at 1005 and wouldn't ya know there was nowhere to park. We pulled up by a cop near the end of the route and waited. And waited. Finally around 1045 it got underway. The parade started out with people on bicycles. It was a cute parade filled with cheerleaders, band members from the local high schools, old cars, a school bus, and some other kid friendly stuff like a clown and people on unicycles. It was a friendly crowd and the highlight was probably Chuck Norris and his wife. Nothing German about it though. After the parade we went over to Pfluger park for the fest. It was all muddy from the recent rains. The mud stank. There were lots of vendors. Kinda like being at the pecan fest. Nothing special. There were several food options, but, the only thing German I recall seeing were brats on a stick. We walked passed a tent that was doing bbq. The smoker was kicking out some serious smoke and it just hung in the area because the wind wasn't blowing. That was a piss off cause we left smelling like smoke. We didn't get anything to eat mainly because of the stench from the mud and the fact that it was crazy crowded. You couldn't move without bumping into people. I looked for some beer. The first I found was American piss water (bud, miller, coors). No thanks, I'll pass. We finally walked passed a tent that advertised "German Beer sold here". The next big sign on that tent advertised Ziegenbock. I gave up at that point and we left. For both of us it was $14 to get in. There was no live music or really anything German. We were really disappointed in this fest. So lame. So sad. Why is it called a Deutsch fest? You can go to similar fests' downtown throughout the year for FREE.

I have kids. So I need family friendly events. This is such an event. So I packed up the family and headed out to meet up with the only other person to review this event, Tony B. The setting of the pfest is really quaint and nice. There's a little creek that runs through the park and there's a big playset for the kiddos to wreak havoc on. There's tons of shade as well, and that's a bonus. The beers are relatively cheap, but the selection is minimal. The selection they do have are a few Texas beers, a few German beers, and then your typical beers that end in "Light" (or "Lite" depending on your preference). The only real complaint I have is that the Pfest could be a bit more German-centric. I would love it if there were a bit more German food around, a bit more German beer variety, a bit more German music, and a bit more Lederhosen. Even though it's not perfect, it's still a nice little event with some pretty good German food (the Schnitzel sandwich was good!) and a few good German beers, and a little bit of Polka.

We payed 21 bucks total, 7 bucks each person over six. I thought the festival would be much better. Remind me why you pay 7 bucks each for entry? They should be letting people in for much less or free. Tons of vendors/advertisers, so why are they charging such a high entry amount? They did have a couple worn out bounce houses for the kids for free, which was a tiny plus. Take your kids to something free instead. You will have save money & have just as much fun at a local park. Tip to the festival: Charge $3 bucks, if anything.

Updated: have not gone since 2016 was the last year we went since German beer prices have gone up from $6 to $12 and it has overgrown where I feel like a cattle in a line walking lol not the type of experience I want to spend my day, time or money. 2017 and 2018 I heard from neighbors it's the same now $14 for German beer and cost of food is pricey and same experience of overgrown for it's space. We don't plan on attending any longer as no improvements are being made. Use to be: Had a great time a few years back use to be well priced and location was great nice and open great looking park too ... We hoped for more German food and music & more German Beer but it was still great lots of fun still had, can't wait for the next Deutschen pfest =)
