We love visiting Middlebury College Museum of Art. The exhibit “ An Invitation to Awe” is excellent. Very engaging and interesting. It is laid out in a very thoughtful and creative way. I highly recommend it

If you're in Middlebury be sure to find time to visit this Museum of Art. My expectation was that it would be locally focused; perhaps some works by alumnae and current students. Wasn't I surprised at the incredible collection in this museum! From Egyptian to Rodin to a portrait painted by acclaimed artist Kehinde Wiley. Well worth an hour or two.

The place took a while to find as we were on foot and the google directions seemed to contradict how to drive there.  No loss, though- the Middlebury campus is simply  incredible and huge considering it's low number of students.   Roughly 1/2 of the museum is dedicated to temporary exhibits.  Both were excellent- layout, lighting and commentary were spot on.  The permanent exhibit may not be for everyone, but it's awe inspiriing to see works of art created 2,000+ years ago.    An hour or so is plenty at the museum, but easy to make a whole day by adding in art galleries, interesting shopping, checking out the 200 year old houses and perhaps one of the many outdoor events Middlebury and the college hold during the summer.
