I was craving Vietnamese food and made a 30-minute drive to this small-town spot. At first glance, my expectations weren't high -- the greeter, who also turned out to be the waiter, simply said, "Pick any table." Most of the available tables were dirty, and the floor had bits of food scattered around. I eventually found a clean spot toward the back. Service was brisk and a bit rushed. The waiter didn't offer much in the way of friendliness and quickly asked, "What do you want to order?" I went with the green curry. To my surprise, it was flavorful and well-seasoned, though it included sliced potatoes -- something I hadn't seen in curry before, but it worked. As I observed the atmosphere, I realized the waiter was likely having a tough day. Later, his sister showed up to help. When I was checking out, I asked how her day was going. She mentioned she had rushed back to help her brother after dropping off their younger sibling at a game. That moment put the whole experience into perspective: a family working hard, juggling responsibilities, and doing their best under pressure. Taking everything into account -- the effort, the food, and the context -- I'm giving this place an understanding 3.5 stars. If I return and catch them on a more balanced day, I wouldn't be surprised if that rating goes up.

Inspired by the full-time Vermont Resident, Ana de Armas, killer John Wick Ballerina but won't fault her for Ben Affleck mistake, all I needed was a 9-night stay that made me fall in love with jaw-droppingly gorgeous Vermont - the extraordinary Vermont Trees and magnificent tree fragrance, more hypnotic than freshly-cut grass; remarkable Green Mountains; and one taste of always amazing Vermont Maple, Cheese, and the best Apple Cider of my life at Cold Hollow Cider Mill in Stowe. Driving to Vermont is dreamlike- especially since I experienced such triple stress from my work! Enveloped in burn out and pushed to the absolute limit, I needed to improve my quality of life, not in a right headspace, more vacation time pronto! I definitely needed to clear my head off the back of daily Momentum Stock Trading. Undeniably picturesque, verdant Stowe, Vermont offered me a detoxifying retreat! The moment I arrived in Stowe, I could finally breathe- exhaling calm, it inhaling my stress, and holding me in a perfect state of wonder. Special Pho Dang Vietnamese Cafe, close to College Town: University of Vermont, Burlington, surrounded by cherished Lake Champlain and discovering Church Street Marketplace one store and restaurant at a time, in Winooski. Pho Dang is unapologetically Vietnamese and delicious! There was no need -or desire- to dine anywhere else; I ate here 4 days in a row, even though I was based in Stowe, a 45-minute drive to Winooski. Mouth-watering Shrimp Summer Rolls and Grilled Pork and Egg Roll Vermicelli were energizing, light, and flavorful - as if a Michelin-Starred Vietnamese Grandma skillfully cooked it! The best part- vibrant, gloriously perfect Pho Dang Peanut Sauce- makes you want to karaoke, singing its yummy tune - I, quite happily, want to add this to everything to give it an instant kick! I absolutely adore Vermont and Pho Dang!

I remembered the Pho broth at Pho Dang being really good when I had it two and six years ago, but this time around, it wasn't as flavorful. The brisket and tendon was pretty tender, but the pork chop for the rice plate was on the dry side. The eggrolls were seasoned well and it came with a hoisin sauce with peanuts instead of the typical fish sauce. Is fish sauce a thing in Vermont? The service wasn't very attentive and the servers had to be flagged down. What upsetted me the most was when this girl thought it was okay to be holding two bowls of hot broth with one hovering over my baby's head. I slightly moved the high chair out of the way when I saw her coming over, but when she was putting down one bowl and not paying attention to the other one, I immediately moved her bowl of soup away from my baby's head and she gave me a look like I was crazy. She wasn't standing with the bowl next to my baby, it was legit over his head. I don't think it is EVER okay to be holding hot broth over anyone's head. Come on .... That's just common sense.

After surprising my bestie by showing up in her state, she recommended we go out to eat at this little Pho place she knows with some of the best food she's had, not far from my hotel we caravanned down from Swanton and parked on the street. The place felt very homey. Our server was very attentive and kept apologizing for what he perceived as not being attentive or quick enough as he was the only person in the front of the house but we thought he was doing fine and we were enjoying ourselves with no rushing. We had their spring rolls, the Goi Cuon Tom Thit (shrimp, pork, lettuce, and noodles wrapped in rice paper) which were good but I really enjoyed my other two items. One was the cans of Yeo's Chrysanthemum Tea out of the drink cooler. I've never had it before and it's one of the most refreshing cold teas I've ever had. The other was my meal, the #24 The Bun Xao Tham Cam (stir-fried beef, chicken shrimp, quail eggs, onions, sweet sauce, crushed peanuts). Some definitely put love into their cooking because this was exactly what I needed and it was so good. I bought 2 more of the teas on my way out to take back to my room lol. I'm very glad they brought me here.

Checked out this one Vietnamese restaurant in Winooski for lunch. It was super crowded even though there were plenty of tables in the dining room. Pho Dang is apparently a popular spot, and there was a bit of a wait to get seated. A sign this place must be good. The food confirmed it was. By looking at the name of this, it's safe to assume pho would be a good choice. It's what we came for, and that's just what we got. They have a lot to choose from, as well as many things other than pho. Has no alcohol, but customers can bring it in. It's about $12 for a bowl of pho. Has a vegan choice which is the Pho Rau Cai. This comes with a typical assortment of vegetables including bell peppers, broccoli, carrots, celery, mushrooms, onions, and tofu. Kind of plain to be honest. This is better with adding some hot spices. Got to come here again the next time around to get some great Vietnamese food. It's crowded and they won't take reservations, so just go and you'll have to wait for a table. The wait is worth it, for the pho that includes an option for vegans and vegetarians.

Tried the small pho dac biet and the bun ga nuong cha gio. The food wasn't bad but it needs some work. The pho soup was decent and had some brisket I think but I didn't see any rare beef slices or beef balls like stated on the menu. There was also no customary plate of greens (soybean sprouts, basil etc) to put in the pho. We ordered the bun thit nuong cha gio but instead of grilled pork, grilled chicken arrived. It was a decent bowl of bun with Chinese style spring rolls. The service wasn't good. Had to ask for a spoon and the check didn't arrive so ended up going to the counter to pay.

Food is always solid and accommodating. The last time we went the waitress packed up my daughter's leftover with separate containers for the noodles and broth which was very sweet.

The eggrools and the peanut sauce they serve is really good!!! And the special house fried rice is so good, thousands times better than the pudin I got from the Burlington one.... I mean huge difference!! Thanks Pho Dang!! Keep it up!! Service is fast and good!!! You guys rock!!!

Great place for a bowl of Pho and other tasty Vietnamese food. Nothing fancy but the food is good. The decor is a little rough but if that not important to you, look no further. The Vietnamese coffee is brewed fresh. That alone is worth it.

First impression: it's as charming as a fedex office. Harsh fluorescent lights and metal chairs that scrape across floor. Table we were at had seen better days; top was peeling. Only one server for whole restaurant so service was hit and miss. The food: spring rolls good but dip sauce is hoisin based. Pho with various forms of beef was adequate. Decent broth. Grilled pork on vermicelli was not great. Meat was cold without much flavor. Not enough nuoc mam or carrots. Too much vermicelli. If I go back will stick to pho, add lots of sriracha and hoisin!
