Horrible !! When I received my rental car, it was damaged. I took multiple pictures and videos. I went back in the rental area to confirm that the damages were noted in the system so I won't have issues at drop off. It was not documented on the rental paperwork handed to me and no walk around the car with the worker. I was told by the worker behind the desk that the damages were in fact noted. Well... what a surprise a month later, I received a bill from a 3rd party representing Avis stating the rental had damaged and I was liable. Of course I had to call multiple times and send pictures to verify the damages were there prior to me receiving it. It was time wasted that was unnecessary because of negligence on their end.

I've rented cars through several agencies before, but I have NEVER had such a terrible experience as I did with AVIS. Alamo, Sixt, and Hertz are all much better choices. AVIS not only charged me for insurance -- two different types -- after I explicitly declined it, but they also charged me $45 for a fuel option I did not agree to. I had opted to return the car full or pay $3.03 per gallon for what I used. I only had the car for a few hours (less than a day) while in town for work and used just 6 gallons. I tried calling multiple times to dispute the charges, each time sitting on hold for over an hour. When I finally reached someone, the customer service was awful. I could barely understand the representative, who first offered me 30%, then 50% off the insurance I never even agreed to. I declined both offers -- I should not have been charged in the first place. Steer clear of AVIS. Alamo will be getting my business again for my upcoming trip.

Good evening, To whom it may concern: Today, January 11, 2025 @ approximately 12:10pm I escorted my husband to Avis Rental after many attempts to resolve his balance on the phone and extend his contract throughout the time of the contract. To timeline the events: On December 13, 2024 a reservation was made online via Priceline and successfully secured a rental Truck contract thru Avis rental located at 3316 Virginia Beach Blvd Virginia Beach, VA 23452 and the original contract ended in December 16, 2024. On December 16, 2025 prior to noon, Michael called and spoke to Avis and extended the original contract to December 27, 2025 (via telephone). On December 27, 2024, Michael went to Avis to pay the balance in full and extend the truck rental for a second time. When he arrived he was informed that they would extend the truck and that he would have to pay the balance at the time of return. A date was not specified nor agreed to for the extension as the inclement weather (snow storm ) affected the safe drive back to return the vehicle. On Saturday, January 11, 2025, around 9am he received a call from Avis stating that the car must be returned by 4pm or there will be additional fees but the details of the additional fees were not clear nor stated. The customer service representatives were extremely rude and they were not helpful to him with working towards a solution. Prior to this morning call from Avis they did not call him stating that he needed to anything to maintain positive status with the rental contract. To his understanding and last contact made with an Avis representative he was in an extended open contract and not given a date or time of when the 2nd extension was due or completed for return. Despite many attempts to resolve the issue over the phone with multiple representatives he was only left in extensive wait times, transferred to other who's just continued to not resolve the problem. Michael offered to pay the current balance in full and extend the contract to refund the truck Monday as the area experienced snow and ended this morning creating hazardous, unsafe road conditions (which were expressed more than once to multiple Avis customer service representatives). From the frustration of not finding a resolution or proper communication about the next steps, Michael drove the rental truck to Avis to get the rental truck back and find resolution. Upon arriving today on 01/11/25, around12:10pm, KATHIE THOMSON, Agency Operator, was observed raising her voice and pointing her finger at Mike. I asked what was the miss understanding and made an attempt to resolve the issue. The Avis staff KATHIE THOMSON, the alleged owner, continued to raise her voice and made it clear she was not interested in helping the customer or finding a solution to the situation. She was only interested in in arguing, debating, and only spent time overtaking Michael and myself in an extremely aggressive tone. She was also smiling and laugh mg at us and was NOT professional at all. When I requested that she slower her tone and stop pointing her finger at Michael she only made excuses for her behavior and continued to be rude towards us. She even shouted out stating, "she makes 450,000 quarter a year and doesn't have time for People like this." What does that mean, people like this? And why does the amount of money she allegedly makes a year have to do with resolving the Truck rental contract which was not documented appropriately. Despite Michael sharing with her that he Never Authorized a one day extension over the phone as the Avis records indicate which are inaccurate. The frustrating events that occurred have created severe mental distress and anxiety and to show a customer a rental contract with a balance over $1400,00 when he was just told over the phone that including the hold on his credit card in file with Avis that an additional $636 was due for the current balance. That he could go to Avis pay the rental balance and renew the contract to only be treated unfairly and then the balance piled on with Late fees which he was not notified of being Late, not ONE call. Thank you for taking the time to read this concern/complaint as this is not what a customer wants nor expects from a company as large as Avis. We have rented May vehicles in the past from many companies and have Never experienced such unprofessional service and NO resolution and stuck with a Large balance out notice or proper explanation. We would like to speak to someone regarding this matter and want to find a solution to this ASAP. We look forward to hearing from you soon and look forward to how we can prevent this from happening again. As a nurse of over 20 years, I understand what Professional ethic means and KATHIE THOMSON is not a positive representation of Avis. Horrible experience. I made a reservation and received a confirmation immediately. I arrived within 30 min after paying $20 for an Uber and the very rude lady at the desk said she didn't have a car. Supposedly something in the "fine print" said it was not guaranteed. Then why give a confirmation?? It should say pending. She tried calling a different location. I heard her tell the woman she had other cars - I'm sure all upgraded. She didn't offer any to me. Acted very bothered and wasn't the least concerned I now had to find another ride to get to another location. I didn't read the fine print. I accept that. Avis fix your reservation process so confirmation aren't given. It's an hour later and I still haven't received notice a car is actually not available. And teach your employees some manners and customer service skills. No more Avis for me.

I was over charged thousands of dollars for a rental I had for 13 days. They add a bunch of charges that don't make sense I was charged 4,000 to rent a Chrysler 300 for 13 days I signed a rental agreement that was for a mid size car at 60$ a day amd 14.00 for insurance????? And they billed my card without my consent

ZERO STARS for this location. I thought this location closed at 5 PM on Sunday, and I arrived right at 4. Then realized the location closed at four, not five... :/ I rent from Avis literally all the time for my job (roughly 5 days out of most weeks)so I thought it might not be unreasonable to expect a little accommodation in customer service. When walked up, looked in and knocked on the door, I actually made eye contact with the person who works there, but they just ignored me. I called the location, of course the employee didn't answer.... I don't think I've ever had an Avis location answer the phone... they let it ring and then you get diverted to their national customer service line. The customer service agent first told me that she'd divert me to another location to return, but once she looked up my reservation, said I couldn't because I was returning the car early... Never mind that I cleared an early return with the agent I spoke with when renting the car! I went back the next morning, was treated even WORSE by the "owner." She said "oh we have a drop box," though it's practically invisible on the side of the building and the door clearly has a sign that says "no after hour returns." (See attached photos). She then CHARGED ME for a rental that was paid for with my Avis points and refused to fix it, saying she was "done with me," and "I could talk to corporate." Well, Kathie, I talked to corporate... actually talked to a very nice customer care rep who informed me your store is not a franchise and you don't "own" anything... I got a refund and my points back. Oh, and they're going to make sure your District Manager is aware of your location's lousy customer service and that you said you were the "owner..." Enjoy.

We booked with Dollar and they had given us such a bad experience. Young lady behind the counter at Avis helped us. What a blessing she was. We were in a super clean vehicle. The staff from beginning to the return are friendly, greeted us with a smile and very well organized. I have to thank all of them for all they do.

Avis on Virginia Beach blvd and rosemount, whoever the lady who worked today , 2/21, was rude as hell! Not sure if she was racist but she clearly didn't want to give me a rental today. Her customer service was trash and she had no care in her body. Body language was horrible, responses was bad, no eye contact, no compassion. I'll never rent from there and today was my 1st time. She is a bad representation for Avis. Please do personality test before hiring another one of her!

Do not purchase a AVIS vehicle that is up for sale, anywhere, if you want to avoid the hassle and disconnect with their third party finance team. AVIS doesn't follow-up on anything and is grossly incomplete on the transaction. Communication with AVIS is one way....you are doing all the work. Avis clerks "that isn't my job" My comparison is with my previous Hertz rental car purchase which was professional, smooth, and no third party finance company. Good luck.
