LOVE Avalon!! I've had a pumpkin for many, many years and I've kept track of them on social media ever since. They are possibly best known for their water floats, which come in a ton of sizes and colours. Alas, I don't have a water feature in my yard, so I've been holding off on those until I move into a more permanent residence. I recently found myself down here on July 4th for the seconds sale and a seal. I was not surprised to see that a majority of the seconds sale consisted of floats - though if that's what you're looking for it's a *fantastic* sale!! While there were a variety of other seconds available, nothing really stuck my fancy and I went on the hunt for those adorable little seals. There were 4 or 5 hanging out around the shop so I scooped up my favourite and tired to figure out who was standing where for what. This is one of those days that everyone and their grandma was here and to say that the line was out the door is quite the understatement. It got to the point they informally opened a cash only line. The bonus? No sales tax!! I was able to find the cash that I needed and oh so carefully ferried my new little coworker to the car. He brings me lots of joy and I'd recommend a little sea life friend to anyone! This is a great place for gifts and it's worth stopping by!

Lovely pieces here. I was visiting friends in Seattle and as soon as I found out that Seattle was known for their glassblowing, I knew I had to take a piece home with me. I picked up a beautiful little blue bowl made from one single bubble that has depressed on the top to get a convex shape. Such a simple concept, turned beautiful, and that is the M.O. for everything in their studio. I can be very particular about pieces I bring into my home, they need to not only look beautiful but be clean lines and have a purpose (not just collect dust) and all of Avalon's pieces hit the mark for a reasonable price. Definitely had my eye on a lot of pieces so it was hard to choose just one. Definitely worth the drive if it's slightly out of your way. Even if just to see them work on pieces in the studio, it's mesmerizing.

Avalon Glassworks was so much more than I expected! I went in to check out the amazing products and was treated to a live demonstration by their artists and some wonderful conversation with the owners. I've driven by so many times and am so happy I finally stopped in. Their stuff really is amazing.

I always had planned on stopping in to this place, and finally had the chance recently when I decided to grab a fundraising piece they were selling for the West Seattle Foodbank. It's a smallish little gallery on Avalon right at Luna Park. There are a few parking spaces reserved for them right out front of the shop, otherwise there's street parking along Avalon. They have quite the varied selection of really nice blown glass art. Everything from their famous Halloween pumpkins, to vases, to jewelry, to well, you name it. And all of it is really tastefully done.... really nice. I was tempted to walk out with a few more items than what I originally went in to buy, but will definitely be back to pick up more things. If you're looking for great local glass art, this is a must-stop-in gallery.

A cool local place where you can see glass being blown by the artists on one side of the shop and see their creations on the other. This is a great place to find one-off gifts for all budgets, including engagement and wedding gifts for art-minded couples. Vases lining the store were very cool with color schemes running from Seahawks, to beach, to holiday-themed. Parking is tight--you'll have to fight the Luna Park crowd which swells on weekend AMs. Recommend and will keep in mind for gifts.

This place is awesome. My oldest son is all about glass blowing, it's his passion, so whenever, and I mean every single time he sees a glass blowing shop, he does not only beg, but he gets so excited, and passionate, that we pretty much have to let him stop and look, so while in the area, he saw signs pointing to this shop, so of course we stopped, and most of the time we stop, he gets ignored because people don't take a 13 year old very seriously, but the people here treated him with so much respect, they listened to him talk, and the people who were in the actual glass blowing area, would periodically stop and show him what they were doing. For any place to treat my kids no different than any other person who came in, deserves my business. I ended up buying a carrot; yes, you read that right, my younger son wanted a carrot, and so I bought it as a Christmas present for him, and the employee helped me try to keep it a secret from him, it was kind of fun to try to pull off. We will be frequenting this location a lot, they were the best!

Among a small cluster of shops nestled near the shadow of the West Seattle freeway is the Avalon Glass Works. It's a fairly inconspicuous place which has a diminutive interior; having a dozen people in here would violate fire codes. From the name, I expected it to be bigger. The phrase Glass Works invokes an image of a giant foundry with hundreds of workers scurrying around huge vats of molten glass. You know, the kind of place where you could commission a massive 50 foot high nude glass statue of yourself for the front lawn. Anyways, the shop has a small selection with several neat items. They range from vases to ornaments to sculptures. A number of these are cool looking, but the price tags tended to be in the $200-500 range which sort of precludes impulse shopping here. They had advertisements for glass blowing classes, although this may have just been a Mother's Day advertisement. There was a display for the Four Elements (wind, earth, fire, water) floats. These were interesting: floating glass with shades of blue for the Water floats and hues of red and orange swirls for Fire. The floats have a nice effect bobbing on the waters' surface in the display fountain. They also have a "buy Four Elements and get the Fifth Element free" special (a Bruce Willis reference?). Anyways, I decided not to take them up on this special offer since I need to save up for that statue on the front lawn.
