Great Hawaiian food at T-Mobile Park. The servers were very friendly and thought I have been there before when it was my first time. It is amazing the number of great unique options you can find here that you usually cannot in most sports venues.

Went to a Mariner's game for the first time in a tick. Game 2 of a 3 game series vs. the Cubby's of Chicago. Of course one of the big draws to T-Mobile Park (Formerly Safeco Field) are the many food venues, and since it has been a while I noticed a ton of new ones, one of them being Marination. I was really happy to see a place serving some island grindz at the ballpark. So this review is for Marination at T-Mobile Park, which I'm assuming is the same , like how Kidd Valley at T-Mobile Park is the same as Kidd Valley in Kenmore or U. District. So where was I, Island Grindz at the ballpark, yes, I was very happy to see that as an option so I went ahead and got my first island inspired Mariner's game meal which was the Hawaiian Plate lunch with the pork and a Spam musubi. All I can say is if you've ever had a genuine plate lunch in Hawai'i or has had good island/Asian cookin', you're going to be severely disappointed. So lower your expectations or you'll end up writing a review like this. So here's the break down of the plate lunch: PORK: First off I was expecting maybe kalua pork. I mean it being a "Hawaiian" plate lunch and all. Well, not so much. It was pulled pork, with maybe a BBQ sauce mixed in, and to make it worse, it was very dry. RICE: In the words of a Jo Koy joke, "Rice is Rice". So a scoop of white rice with a whisper of Furikaki sprinkled on top. It was cooked fine, so there's a rice cooker in the back and someone knew the correct rice/water ratio.....but did they clean/rinse the rice according to Asian standards? COLESLAW: Can't say as I've ever had Hawaiian coleslaw, but there is was and it it tasted like....coleslaw. Nothing special expect maybe the large chunks of cabbage. I usually prefer my slaw shredded. Maybe throw in some chunks of pineapple or something. HAWAIIAN MAC SALAD: Definitely had better mac salad, this one was way too vinegary for my taste, it was like all you could taste. But the elbow macaroni was cooked fine. ROLL: I don't think it was even a King Hawaiian Roll. If it was it was maybe a Kroger knock off or something. I also ordered a Spam musubi on the side. Now next to a loco moco, one of my favorite Hawaiian grindz is Spam musubi. I've had many during my time on this plane of existence. Restaurants, quickie marts, family gatherings and many I've made on my own. So as a self proclaimed expert I know a good Spam musubi. This one was...meh. As in good in a pinch, maybe, but I've definitely had betta. So the nori and rice were pretty much on par, especially after it's been wrapped in cellophane. Which is to say the nori was soggy and the rice, well, "Rice is Rice". Obviously came from the same rice cooker that they used for the plate lunch. But the Spam! First off, such a thin slice. You can definitely see how they will make a killing off one can of Spam. Here's the math: Each Musubi cost $6.99 at the ball park. A can of Spam averages maybe $3-$4 at Safeway. $26-$27 for a 8 pack at Costco. A Spam slicer makes you 9 slices, so that would be 9 musubi's. Based on the ballpark price you just made $62.91 off of 1 $3-$4 can of Spam! As for the nori and rice, those are relatively cheap, especially when you can get two or more strips from one sheet of nori. Now to think that they could get that slice any thinner baffles me and probably creates an additional 2 slices which means another 2 musubi's. But the thinness probably explains my next issue, it was SO DRY! Almost like a Spam potato chip. And because the rice and nori overpower the Spam, I couldn't tell you if they even "Marinated" (see what I did there?) or basted the Spam. So bottom line, a musubi that was a very sad representation of a Hawaiian staple. Seriously, they sell better Spam musubi's at the 7-eleven on Oahu and for cheap. To be fair, might've just been the one musubi they picked for me, the runt slice of the can, but still, QC brah! On the positive, the counter people were nice. Bottom line, ballpark prices with corner cutting quality. Hopefully their brick and mortar restaurant has better fair.
