Their phone number only routes to the corporate call center. They hold a deposit on your credit card of $200 for many days after you return the vehicle. The customer service agents at the call center claim that only the people working at this downtown Seattle office have the ability to release the hold, and yet they cannot get through to a live human even when they, the customer service agents, attempt to reach the Seattle office by phone.

Updating my review since they were able to provide me a car earlier than 1pm...but only after I called them at noon myself also rly annoying how you can't find direct phone number for this location. I've rented several times from this location and had good experiences but my experience today was horrible- not sure if they have a new manager or what. I had a rental pick up at 9am. Was running a bit late and they call me at 9:45AM saying they don't have enough cars and are getting them from SEA-TAC airport and none would be available until earliest 1PM!!! WHAT THE EFF?!?! How are you calling me AFTER my appointment to tell me no cars are available and why did you not have any cars properly available for all the remaining rentals that day? And why is it going to take 4 hours for you to get cars over from an airport that's an hour away?!?! Completely unacceptable and didn't offer any sort of benefit or compensation for this.

Staff is always great here. Super friendly and helpful. Ryan was helpful reaching out to me when my rental pick up times changed and he was helpful in accommodating me. Tannis was lovely at check in and Dondre' was a rock star when I brought the car back. I love this location when I am staying downtown and it's so much easier than dealing with the airport shuttles and crowds.

Ryan was an absolute lifesaver after our initial car rental fell through due to another company's negligence. He made sure we had the best deal possible and gave us recommendations for our stay in Washington. Would highly recommend this rental center! They truly saved the day after a nightmare of a morning. I have been renting cars from National for years(for business and pleasure both), this is the first time I rented from a non-airport location as I am not flying due to COVID. It was nothing but a bad experience compounded by more bad experiences. Pick up - I reached for my pickup at the allotted time. As many others have said, they didnt have the car ready despite having a reservation. One of the employees actually tried to hustle me into either getting a minivan or paying for an upgrade to a SUV. Dirty tactics as is evident from the number of people complaining about it. I insisted on getting the car I reserved and I was told to wait. Around an hour later I finally got a car. For what its worth the lady who actually checked me out was not sketchy like the man who tried to hustle me into getting that SUV or my only other option was a minivan. Drop Off - I dropped off the car on Sunday night despite having the rental till Monday morning. It was an after hours drop off and thankfully i took photos of the car and the notepad. 2 full business days later, its still not checked in. I have no idea if one of the people at the lot damaged it in 2 days, or they took it for a joyride. The customer care tells me they escalated the matter but I got no meaningful response. I wrote to the manager of the location whose number is listed. No response yet. My app tells me my rental is 2 days overdue but I dont have an invoice and I dont have a check in confirmation. Its so stressful to not know whats happening, why the car is not checked in and to have a customer service that has no connection to the branch. National, i really expect better from you!

Tl;dr: I was forced to either upgrade for an extra charge or wait an hour to get a car that I reserved! I've rented cars many times from this National location, and often they have gone without a problem - not the case with this past trip. I reserved a midsize car on their website weeks in advance, but when I arrived in the morning, they said there were no midsize cars left. They told me my options were to either upgrade to an SUV for an extra $30 per day or wait an hour while they drive up extra cars from SeaTac Airport. Imagine showing up to a restaurant with reservations to be told "oops, we overbooked but you can upgrade to a different table for an extra $60 or wait an hour for your table to open up." I had time-sensitive plans, so was forced to take the upgrade. The people at the counter were not at all fazed by the situation, which tells me that they regularly overbook their cars to force an upsell. I have been a loyal National customer for years now, but will be trying out the competition. I hope they're better in this regard, but kind of doubt it. Not sure what a good solution is - maybe reserve cars from several companies and hope for the best? Also, the last several times returning cars after-hours at National have all been chaotic. There is barely enough room to fit all the cars, and this past time, one car blocked an entire column of spots, which forced people to park on the spiral ramp. Hope no one needed to get to any higher floors!

Visitors from out of town obvi...we had reserved a car from the National Car Rental at Sea-Tac and once we actually figured out where the airport was...we thought better of that plan and wanted to actually pick up a car closer to downtown Seattle. The national National Car Rental line said this downtown location was oversold and didn't have any vehicles available, but we were able to book online? Confusing. So we just rolled up hoping for the best and explained our situation to the friendly guys at the office. They were literally so so helpful and kind and got us a perfect car. I think he even went to a different floor and pulled it out of the car wash because the other option was a minivan. Super great, super smooth experience! Kind, friendly, straightforward, basically just right.

After renting from this location three times, my experience has justified a solid 5-star review. I always rent with National due to a corporate discount program, but have rented from various neighborhood/airport locations between National/Enterprise but this downtown location has been by far my favorite. All three times, I've been able to get a near-brand new car (all under 100 miles), and they were impeccably clean! During pick-up and drop off, I always greeted by helpful and friendly staff, eager to help me should I have any questions or concerns. Most recently, I used a free day coupon which was only eligible for intermediate-class rentals, but the staff at the counter gave me a free upgrade without any questions! Moreover, the car we got was super clean and fully upgraded with all the bells and whistles so it was a very comfortable car for our roadtrip! Great service & great car selection!
