Our first ride on the Seattle Street Car was a treat! The driver super helpful and friendly, engaging the littlest passengers with enthusiasm and sincere interest. Orca cards are accepted, but bus transfers are not! Just so you know. The trip is relatively short from the north end of downtown to SLU, but comfortable, smooth and clean. It's not too crowded; at least not early on a Thursday afternoon while most are lunching. The trolley provides easy access to MOHAI and the Center for Wooden Boats without having to search for and pay for limited hours parking.

it's a short ride from Westlake center to South Lake Union Park but well worth the price. The driver was friendly and helpful, the streetcar was clean and nearly empty, and it was definitely faster and easier than walking.

Who likes to ride the SLUT? Okay, so elected officials realized that the original acronym of what's now the Seattle "Streetcar - South Lake Union" wasn't the best name for it, but the natives find it endearing, to say the least. In all seriousness though, the South Lake Union Streetcar is a convenient form of transportation if you're traveling from downtown Seattle. Although it's walkable to get to SLU, the streetcar comes in handy when you're trying to make your meeting! Located by the Westin in downtown Seattle, it's easy to spot where you would take the streetcar from. Inside, there is a map of all the SLU stops and the stops are announced through the intercom. A big plus is that they accept the ORCA card! For convenient and fast transportation that's never busy, take a ride on the SLUT for accessible and popular stops in South Lake Union from downtown Seattle.

I hope they can salvage this somehow. As far as a people mover system, the South Lake Union Streetcar has as much appeal as the Seattle Monorail. It is a curiosity, but lacking in usefulness for most. The Streetcar runs from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in the Eastlake area to a stop across the street from Westlake Center. There is a train every 15 minutes. The system seems to model itself like the Portland Streetcar, but the current streetcar system in Seattle is inferior in the same way that Seattle's Sound Transit Light Rail system is to the Portland MAX system. In its current state, I think the main use of it is in shuttling Amazon and Fred Hutchinson employees from Westlake to their respective offices. There is not a whole lot of Metro bus service in South Lake Union (SLU), so the Streetcar does alleviate that issue a bit. But seeing that Westlake is only several blocks south from SLU, I think most people including myself would prefer to walk the distance rather than wait for the Streetcar. I would only take it if there was a train leaving shortly that would save me a couple minutes. Work on a First Hill Streetcar is going on now and there has been talk of extending the SLU Streetcar further north which would be great if it happens. It would be a waste to not expand. Right now the value of this line is not there, but hopefully city planners can turn that around with some forward thinking expansion.

Never trust the reader boards. Also do not understand how every time I ride there is a driver change that results in further delays. This has so much potential that is wasted.

As a card carrying SLUT I happily welcome this new member to the club. She completely embodies all that is good and SLUT like - sports garish colors, numerous passengers on board at once to the point of overload, and a great ride that doesn't necessarily need to be taken. On a more serious note - while the SLUT is sort of silly and doesn't really go anywhere, it is at least a symbolic move in the right direction following the rejection of Prop 1 last month and, well, progress is progress. As part of my ongoing personal work around change, I accept thee SLUT, and I shall ride thee to Nordstrom on my lunch.

Ok, I'll admit it I'm a transport geek and could not resist the draw of riding the SLUT (they so should have called it this) at such an early hour. I'm staying at the Westin and due to some rather intense dental work I woke up at a very unsociable hour and decided to ride the SLUT. I only went one stop and then wandered back, just because I can. I'm sure i'm not the first business traveller staying in a hotel to ride the SLUT in the early hours, but I did manage to do it for free. Hooray. The trams (I'm English, they are trams ok) look just like the ones they run in Croydon and the one I was on was red so I felt a little bit like I was in London just for a moment.

It's public transit. It's electric. It's clean. "Modern". She rides fairly smooth (what he said?). The bell is neat since it feels somewhat nostalgic. It's not fast and thank god it's not, given it's route in the road. On a side note, I cannot believe a similar line is going to be on the Hill... srsly?! It's certainly not as spacious as SLU.... that's for damn sure. Meh.

We need all the public transit we can get. This thing gets pretty packed during rush hour, so it certainly serves a purpose. It's clean, the ride is smooth, the drivers are friendly. It's public transit! It has one job to do. This one does its thing in a small space, but it serves a market. Very glad it's here. Until I saw just how many offices are in its neighborhood, though, I didn't get it. I thought it was just a little vanity project. But that's not the case--lots of people need the lift here.
