I am an urban dweller without a car and I have a strong need to get out of the city often. I've been using Zipcar for 5 years now. I've taken Zipcars up to the mountains overnight and I've taken them over to the peninsula for the weekend to visit my parents and I've even taken them to eastern, WA for a long weekend. Granted it seems pricey at first compared to say, Enterprise. But I've put a pencil to it every time I've needed a car for a day or more and I've found that Zipcar wins every time. First of all the convenience of Zipcar is in of itself worth the money you spend--time is money sometimes. I can go grab a car (my choice) when I need it and not have to talk to anyone and go through the same rig amoral car rental places make you go through (unless you're a regular or frequent flier). That's just the perky part. Price-wise when you factor in gas, and insurance on typical rental car rates it always adds up to about the same daily rate. If you work for a company that might have a partnership with Zipcar it's worth looking into because there are some savings there. The only downside is Zipcar does have the daily mileage restriction of 180 miles per 24 hour rental. So if you want to go over to the peninsula you have to get a car for two days so you don't go over on miles. I wish they would allow more miles per day on the weekends but it usually ends up working out :) Also, I've learned you need to be a very responsible person to not get hit with Zipcar fees etc. Don't be late, don't lose the keys or it can cost you. Lastly, the Zipcar people are so responsive and courteous when you need to call them (which is rare). I almost rented a car this summer, I called to confirm my reservation and ask about the insurance at the downtown Enterprise and the guy was so rude to me, I cancelled my reservation and immediately got on my Zipcar app and reserved a Ford Escape with all the bells and whistles for my trip and it was actually way less cost compared to the small suv rental at Enterprise. Zipcar is a great value!

I have been a member of Zipcar for 15 years. It used to be great! I loved it. Nice cars and good service if you needed service. Now, their cars have gotten more dumpy every year. No one can help if you call. You are put on hold for multiple minutes, and every time you call you are transferred, and you will be transferred. Not one person is helpful. I just booked a car for this evening and there was NO KEY TO START THE CAR. The agent told me that they had already had reports that there was no key in the car. Yet!! They still had it available to rent. Garbage nonsense every time you have to deal with them.

Terrible experience with the service and customer "support". I booked a car for 24 hours since I live further from the city and needed to run errands one evening and one morning. Since I needed the car in the morning I paid for it overnight. Come morning the car is impossible to get into because their locking/unlocking mechanism broke. so I had to wait in the cold for someone to come unlock the door. customer support wanted me to keep using the car or get a refund. I didn't feel comfortable using the car since it had broken features and I needed to be able to secure my belongings in the car while I used it. I had take time off work to use the car for my errands in the morning, the whole day off I took was ruined by having to go through getting locked out and having to return the car early. Because the trip was ended early they only gave me a $13 refund when I paid over $100 to reserve the car overnight to use in the morning. if I knew the car wasn't going to be useable in the morning, I would've booked the car for about 2hours the day prior and then got a new car the next day, but that is so out of my way it didn't make sense time wise. but because I didn't call them the night before to let them know their car wouldn't work the next day, I don't get a refund for keeping the car overnight. Once again, I wouldn't have paid to keep the car overnight if I thought it'd be uneusable the next morning. I can't even rebook a car for the amount of time I need for that refund. customer service was unwilling to refund anymore than $13 and I lost a full day of work, $100, and didn't get any of the things done I was supposed to use the car for. Terrible experience. Do not use Zip Car if you actually need a car. they won't refund you for a totally wasted experience and time.

I would have been a poster child for Zupcar right up until the very end. I've even given them good reviews so I always thought that their cars needed to be cleaned more but it was not until the very last rental that all the sudden Zipcar became the number one enemy. I had made the mistake of taking a nap before I was supposed to return a car and I overslept by about an hour and I woke up frantic to get the car back as I was on my way to return the car I called because of course I had been already locked out of the car due to it being late and I was told verbatim to not worry about returning the car that Zipcar would handle the recovery of the car. the very next morning I received a phone call from somebody identifying themselves as being from Zipcar corporate and they told me that the car had still yet to be returned and that they were wondering if I would please return the car well I told them sure and it was at that point where he told me that to return the car he needed to book me into a micro reservation in the car because of the time spent of me being in the car and driving it to where the drop off spot was that it was going to cost me money and money that I did not have in my checking account and I informed the gentleman of that it's when at that moment he became very hostile and said that if I didn't return the car that I would be charged hundreds of dollars in recovery fee and I told him I'm sorry I cannot return the car because I don't have the money to book said reservation. It was a few days later that I found out that I had been suspended from the platform indefinitely which was a joke because that day that they told me that I was suspended they had just taken my next month's membership fees which was insult to injury and then I found out they were trying to charge my checking account over $500 for the recovery of the vehicle. I had to cancel my debit card to try to prevent them from charging my account and I called them and told them that I was here by revoking any authorization that they had to try to debit my account further. Somehow they were able to still charge my account the $538 I unfortunately was unable to dispute the charge as somehow they were able to finagle their way into my bank's good graces and were able to make the charge stand. At the end of the day I was charged 538 for a vehicle that I had already offered twice to return and was told the first time to not worry about it and the second time it was going to cost me money that I didn't have but then months later they were able to get for me anyway after I had gotten paid for my work I would never wish zip car on my worst enemy

I paid ZipCar for a car rental and the next morning I received an email that is was time to pick up the car and provided a photo of the car and its location. I walked several blocks to the location but the car was not there! I called Zipcar help line and was told they would electronically honk the car's horn and I could follow the sound to its location... but I heard nothing and they admitted they didn't know where the car was located. They couldn't fine another and said they would issue a refund. This left in a very bad situation but I called a taxi and paid over $55 for the fare. At the end of the day I checked my ZipCar account to confirm the charge for the car that was not there was refunded. Instead they had charged me over $140 including a $50 late fee. When I requested an explanation I was informed they knew I had used the car because the reservation was opened and I had honked the car's horn!! Of course this was the horn that was sounded to help locate the missing car. I was told a supervisor would call me but of course no one ever did. Look elsewhere from ZipCar if you need a dependable rental. I rented an Enterprise car for 24 hours and paid a total of $36.00.

What has become of this once stellar service? Stepped away for a few years. Resigned up. The mobile app doesn't allow me to sign in and is required to book rentals and open car doors. My service request was met with an online hold and hang up. All this after payment for my membership was processed. Stay away from Zipcar!

terrible experience with Zipcar! their customer service is the worst ever i have experienced. I want to make a complaint for a late fee (8mins late) because the parking issue and bad signal. it takes me 1hr on the call. The agent on the call keeps saying my trip doesn't exit on their system and he can't see late fee. the agent has no clue and just repeating there was no late fee. this is such a waste of time and energy trying to communicate with such a crappy company who cares nothing about customer experience.

BEWARE OF ZipCar, they will charge you for fraud on their fuel card!!! It could cost you thousands!! Three weeks ago I rented a van from Zipcar, I returned the van with no issues and refuelled once during the trip. One week after the booking they suspended my account and have accused me of using the fuel card for additional fuel purchases. I had proof I was on the other side of London with the van at the time of the fraudulent transaction but they didn't care. They insisted I pay for the fraudulent transaction and threatened contacting the police, they didn't seem to care it would have been impossible for me to have used the card at that time and location for fuel. Lucky for me the false transaction was only £40 but imagine if it was a larger amount. I have been a loyal customer with them for many years but doesn't count for anything. If you rent a car with them you are taking a big risk!!

I just had a horrible experience with your customer service and Zipcar booking. Would really love if you could change some things. I booked a car a few days ago, it got moved for some reason and the new car you guys gave me was an hour walk away... I needed the car and I have no way of getting to it. It's rediculous and they guy I talked to wasn't helpful at all. Horrible experience and now I can't making to my family event that's so important. Horrible service.

There are glitches in your system period. Every other day there's always a situation with my method of payment saying that I need to update it, but I JUST used that card on file.
