Very nice spot in the center of downtown. I tried a sample of the blue lavender honey, but didn't like it so I went with the butter pecan instead. The vanilla was pretty creamy, and the pecans were rich and satisfying. The waffle cone was also super good and nothing felt "cheap". Speaking of, I will say this was just a little bit on the pricy end for me for a single ice cream, and I'd probably rather just go to Chocolate Shoppe for comparable prices with a much larger selection of wacky flavors. This ice cream isn't bad or anything, but it doesn't particularly stand out to me and make me want to come back again and again.

Good News Ice Cream is exactly that...good news for anyone with a sweet tooth in Madison. The space itself has a great vibe, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating so you never feel crammed. The team behind the counter couldn't have been more helpful, super friendly, patient, and spot-on with their recommendations. I went with a single scoop split between vanilla and caramel honey peach. Both flavors were delicious, unique, creamy, and full of flavor without being overpowering. The caramel honey peach in particular stood out as something you won't find just anywhere. Service was fast, warm, and welcoming. Honestly, nothing negative to say here. This is the kind of place you immediately want to come back to. Solid 5/5.

TLDR = great spot for ice cream after dinner or drinks out near the capital. Exterior = 5/5 It is located right along the street. I happened to be walking and walked right past it and then noticed all the people enjoying ice cream near me. So made my way back and and found them right next to a restaurant and the theater. You can probably park nearby along the street nearby. Interior = 5/5 It gave me warm, welcoming vibes. The ceiling was high and the menu options were along the backboard. There were tables along the front of the store as the line weaved in between them and the cashier/ice cream serving area. It reminded me of an old school ice cream parlor. Service = 5/5 Everyone was really friendly and walked me through the flavors, especially the Blue Moon ice cream which is a region staple. Order = 5/5 I couldn't resist and got the Blue Moon and the Biscoff Cookie. Both were delicious, not too sweet, yet creamy and rich. The Biscoff reminded me of cookie butter from Trader Joes (I don't eat Biscoff much). The Blue Moon I found unique - and also enjoyable. It was like marshmallow-esque with a slight almond/fruit loops flavor. It wasn't too crazy and I'm the type to stick to my tried and true flavors. Overall = 5/5 I would come back if I was in the area. From what I understand, they rotate their flavors so it would be cool to see what else they serve. They were nice and welcoming and perfectly situated near the Capitol Square so it was an easy spot to hit up after dinner. Hint = go for the Blue Moon and get a Wisconsin specialty!

We were near the Capitol and decided to check this place out. Everything is made in-house daily and in small batches, which adds to the charm. They offer unique flavors like fig & honey, watermelon mint, tajín mango, blueberry lavender, something with rose, blue moon, etc. My partner and I each got a flight and really enjoyed the variety. That said, it's quite a bit of ice cream for one person--even for an ice cream fanatic like me! It's not cheap, but definitely a fun treat every now and then. Also, the guys working there were friendly and offered samples. They do offer a loyalty card, which is a nice bonus. Street parking can be tricky, especially on weekends, so be prepared to park a bit farther away and walk off some of those calories!

cannot believe after all my summers in madison this was my first time at Good News ice cream! I got the galactic blackberry (top) and blueberry lavender (bottom) which were the only ones I tasted bc I was nervous to ask for more. Galactic Blackberry had little berry chunks which was a pleasant surprise. Blueberry lavender was heavenly and almost reminds me of wildberry lavender from Jeni's. Definitelyy will be returning to try more fun flavors:) update: second time around got PB cup and biscoff cookie butter -- latter was absolutely delightful and I think I could eat it daily tbh.

This is just minutes away from the State Capitol which is very ideal for visitors like us who want to check off a our architectural appreciation of the Capitol and enjoy a sweet treat afterwards. Our group stopped by after lunch and tried the turtle sundae, latte, and blueberry honey lavender, brownie cookie dough, butter pecan, and chocolate ice cream flavors. The blueberry honey lavender has several layers of profile as indicated by its name and it really lived up to its name. Each layer was distinctive and there were bits of blueberries in the ice cream. The brownie cookie dough was cookie dough ice cream with brownie bits so it was overly rich and sweet. It seems like they change the flavors up from time to time. I look forward to what they will have in store the next time we visit!

Not me coming here twice in 2 days for dessert after most of my colleagues went back to the hotel... I was in Madison for a quick business trip, and we were downtown both nights for dinner. And Good News Ice Cream was the closest dessert place to it, that I ended up going both nights! I do agree with the other reviews. The service is really nice, but they are painfully slow. They really need to streamline their process and the flow. Instead of having one person getting ice cream for a customer and then ringing them up, why not have one person just scooping all the ice cream and having the other person doing the register? The first night, I got the blueberry lavender Honey Ice Cream. It was delicious. The lavender really complemented the honey and the blueberry. It had whole frozen blueberries in it as well. The second night, I got the mint chip, which I really enjoyed! It was super refreshing, and I liked the addition of whole chocolate chips. I got kid scoops both nights, and it was the perfect size for me after heavier dinners. They also have color changing spoons! I did try the fig & honey, which didn't taste like anything to me. The mango was also really creamy and had a good mango flavor. They also have coffee drinks, sandwiches, and donuts (which looked fantastic - only $1 for day old donuts). They also have nondairy options! I would definitely come back next time I'm in town.

We stopped by Good News Ice Cream & Cafe after lunch for a quick palette cleanse. I was in need of something refreshing to balance out the amount of salty food I had just eaten. This seemed like the perfect spot to stop by as it is located right off the square. We were in and out pretty quickly. The ice cream itself was really solid. Both the flavors were tried were super creamy but not overwhelmingly rich. One scoop was just the right amount for me. They had limited topping options as well but I personally felt like my ice cream held its own just plain. I would definitely return in the future to try out some of their other flavor options.

My goodness is this ice cream exceptional! It's rich, creamy, and balanced and well worth the price. The workers there seemed a little annoyed with the customers, but it didn't negatively affect the experience to any great degree.
