She became overly involved with me, wanted a personal relationship. As one example, when I talked about wanting to move, she suggested moving nearer to her, and mischaracterized me as "stubborn" when I said I needed to generally stay where I was geographically. Your reader shouldn't be initiating or at all interested in anything but a professional relationship. In the end, because she developed a role conflict, she was unable to accurately and objectively read the cards, and that is exactly what happens with personal over-involvement. So although the initial readins were good, in the end they were useless.

I've had Tarot card readings from Mari many times, and since I live in Minneapolis, MN, we usually do them by phone or Skype. Mari has been my resident psychic for years now because I have never had a reading from her that turned out to be false. She was late coming back from a break and was a little rushed. She encouraged taking pictures of my cards, which gave me some confidence. However, it seemed like she was quoting from a book and her 'predictions' were quite vague. I don't think I would go to her again.

Thanks to its soft green color and the atmosphere of intimacy, the small chamber in the back of the Mimosa Book Store at 260 West Gilman Street makes a cozy place to have your tarot cards read. Mari Powers, tarot and oracle reader and workshop leader, sits behind a small table and invites the querent to choose from a number of lay-outs such as the healing lay-out and 11 tarot decks including Daughters of the Moon and Native American Vision Quest. After choosing the MerryDay deck, I opt for the "Three Cards in Time" spread. "I never ask a person their questions, concerns, issues, or situations, so that I can be open to my intuition." Mari explains. "After the reading, I ask them to share the information or their questions, in the cases where they have questions. People can take home a sheet showing their reading on the lay-out. People can write notes on the sheets, so that they can remember the advice or revelations expressed by the cards. I tell my clients the readings have a shelf life of 3 months, though things can happen sooner." After Mari shuffles the cards, I re-shuffle them to imbue them with my energy. Being no stranger to reading the tarot, I quickly compare Mari's interpretation of the cards to my interpretation of a reading I did for myself a few weeks earlier. Though we used different decks, the readings "mesh" in my viewpoint. During my self-reading, the High Priestess fell in an inverted position in the past. I took this to mean, any wisdom gained through intuition blew out the window. The Ace of Pentacles occupied the present position. Oh good. New beginnings on the material plane. My favorite card, the spontaneous Fool with his spirit guide sinking warning fangs into his ankle, rode in the future position. Maybe this meant the beginnings would be good, so that I would be tempted to act without precautions. In Mari's readings, the 6 of wands lies at the root of the situation in which I find myself. In the past, my passion and creativity served me well (I am an Aries, after all), but the water warrior in the revealed position shows misgivings are afoot. Now, the interpretation continues, is the time for me to acknowledge any self-doubts and push on. If I can tame that beast, then my perceptions will serve me well, as shown in the Queen of Cups. The Devil surfaces in the final card which is the spirit guide position. Ah, any corner that I am backed into will be of my mental doing - or rather, undoing. The final card especially strikes a chord in me, for I see it as a card of warning and opportunity, such as I view The Fool. Why do I give this tarot reading session "thumbs up"? Because the tarot reading isn't just a mirror (and I believe tarot decks work as mirrors. A spread helps you articulate what's beneath the surface). Mari's interpretation provides sound advice - and in this case, the advice's worth materialize before I leave Mimosa Book and Gift shop. The price is 20 bucks for a 15-minute reading and 1.50 buck per minute thereafter. For me, it's 20 dollars well spent.
