So many Mexican places in this town, this one is pretty good. I recommend the raspados, though everything on the menu is tasty and made from fresh ingredients. Friendly, competent service, it's a cute place.

Service was very good . Chips and salsa were good. If you want shrimp it has a lot of options, but for fish only option is tilapia witch I do not like . Beef and chicken fajitas were average.

Everything is delicious at La FONDITA. If you haven't tried the molletes, they are delicious with coffee or champurrado. Come and try all the food, it's delicious, including their raspados.

This was a long time bookmark and I was thinking of taking the lady here for lunch and I asked her where she wanted to go and she said Mexican, perfect. The place was nice and empty, corona virus ?. We sat down and our server explained the menu and chips/salsa followed with a carafe of water with two real glasses. Three bottles of hot sauce were put on the table all that I liked by the way. The chips were very fresh and crunchy but not salted with a nice corn flavor. The salsa was topped with fresh cilantro but it was watery with chunks of tomato's and onions in a stupid small dish for some reason, you need three for the whole basket of chips at least. The menu has all the food that you would expect but the combo plate is easy to pass over because it's a one line item and you get to choose from limited items from one page of the menu so I built my own combo plate. I opted for the Al pastor tostada, steak taco street style with beans and rice. The steak taco was pretty good with tasty seasoned steak but on the small side. The Al pastor tostada was also pretty good with tasty pork and the nice the nice crispy corn flavor again with all the fresh toppings. The rice was perfectly cooked with separate grains and not mushy. The beans were on the kinda thick/lumpy side and not seasoned like the rice but still good. The lady had the chicken tostada with shredded chicken that was not as tasty as the steak or the Al pastor pork, I tasted all the meats by them self.

This was such a cute little place. I was waiting for my fiancé and I got so hungry and this place was two minutes away so I drop by to order and carry out the food. There was nobody in here when I walked in. Then a very nice young lady greeted me and took my order. My food was ready in 10 minutes or less. That was fast. The place was clean. I like that they separated their menus that was used in a container and another one that was sanitized. When I went back to my fiancé from work. He was driving and I was just eating the food away. Everything tasted so good. My fiancé ate some and really like them too. I recommend this place.

Cute recently remodeled place after owners shut down original setting and went back to Mexico for a year. Salsa was best part. It was light, refreshing, and juices had been marinating in perfect amount of cilantro. Entree prices were slightly higher than nearby places but the extra niceties such as cream and avocado with the tamales and steak topping with avocado on the enchiladas made up for the difference. Contrarily, tacos, burritos, and a few other individual pieces were priced lower than average. Plenty of flavor rather than spice. Also has an extensive breakfast menu and several atypical non-breakfast items. The ONLY negative was that most items could have been slightly warmer. I shall return.

I believe La Fondita has been open less than a year, but not sure. I heard about it from a cousin this past summer. I stopped in a few months ago, but no one was there to greet me after sitting for several minutes so I left, but I gave it another go today and someone came out of the kitchen as soon as I entered (progress). La Fondita fits your typical "hole in the wall" category, which is typically a good thing. The decor reminded me of my grandmother's house (a hodge podge of bright colors and objects), which gave it a homey feel. Mexican Christmas music was playing in the back ground, including Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Cumbia style (nice!). When I sat down, they brought out chips and salsa. The salsa had more to it than the "runny" salsas you find at some places, yet not as thick as a pico de gallo. I liked the flavor and consistency. It was topped with fresh cilantro. I also enjoyed the horchata, a perfect balance of ingredients. Often horchatas are too sweet or not sweet enough. I thought this one was perfect. The menu is one page, two-sided and laminated, smaller than some of the more popular Mexican restaurants. I think that's also good because a place this small should really be focused on a few items that they do really well. You'll find staples like tacos, quesadillas, tostadas, enchiladas, and gorditas, but what I was interested in were the main dishes. I wanted to know what cooks in the kitchen could do, and they did not disappoint. For my entree, I ordered El Recorrido, which consisted of rice, refried beans, a basic salad, cactus salad (I discovered I had a love of the Nopales cactus in a salad at a banquet last year), tortillas, and your choice of up to four main dishes (smaller sizes of course). Choices included milanesa (breaded chicken breast or breaded steak), carnitas, adobada which similar to shredded pork Al Pastor (YUM! - yes, I chose this one), potatoes with chorizo (YUM again!- I chose this too), and fried skirt steak (I chose it, but less excited). The skirt steak had good flavor but the meat was tougher than I expected from skirt steak. I loved the adobada and the papas con chorizo...great flavors! When my meal first arrived, I opened the tortilla warmer, pulled out a tortilla and immediately noticed how thick it was. WAIT!! DO THEY HAND MAKE THEIR TORTILLAS HERE? I had to ask my server to confirm. The answer is YES THEY DO. Big time bonus points for that! I have to give them 4 stars. That is a RARE find in Milwaukee. There is a Mexican restaurant across the street and another more well-known Mexican restaurant a few doors east. That's serious competition, but if others experience what I did today (and you'll go try them now too, right?), hopefully they'll be just fine. I plan to return and try more of the menu to see if they are consistent. I hope they are. I would love to add this to my "hidden gems list." By the way, while I was dining, a woman came in to fill their fresh bakery order, a combination of Mexican sweet rolls and cookies (one local business supporting another - I like it). I wonder if they Yelp!

Well this place is back open. Just dined there yesterday found out they opened this week after being closed for 10 months. The food is like eating at a friends house (who is a really awesome cook). I had my favorite chicken milenasa which was as good as ever and my friend had the flautas dinner both were excellent. On the flautas they offered to do 2 with potatoes and chicken and 2 just chicken. Both were really good. The menu now is in both english and Spanish. It already looks like word was getting out that they were open as it was Saturday afternoon after lunch and stayed consistently busy. This truly is one of those great little finds that has exceptional food really nice people , accommodating service and one of my favorite places to go. Very happy they are back open. Looks like the hours are 10-10 closed Wednesday's.

This is literally right around the corner from our house, and a little gem of a place. Authentic cuisine, and great Mexican drinks (the horchata is fantastic). Order well in advance as it's a small kitchen staff. The menu is simple and well done, also worth the wait. I always see a lot of cars coming by for takeout. They also sell some textile items from Mexico which are beautiful.
