I Thought maybe I would get lucky with a decent experience but boy was I wrong. Budget really needs to do something about this location. The staff has no idea whatsoever what the words "customer service" or "common courtesy" are. Avoid this place at all costs. My experience was very similar to the other reviews. They've not fixed their personnel issues. Too bad! Typically I have good experiences with budget.

If you're considering renting a car in Milwaukee, do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs. I reserved a car for 8:30 am, showed up on time, and was told they had no cars available--not even one. The employee suggested I try coming back around noon to see if someone returned one, which left me wondering how I was able to make a reservation in the first place when they had no cars. Her response? "Anyone can reserve a car at any time, that doesn't mean one is available." I'm still trying to wrap my head around that logic. I then asked for the 1-800 number to explore my options, only to end up on hold for 45 minutes. After all that waiting, I learned the lady had actually canceled my reservation without my permission, just because I left to call customer service! When I questioned her, she said it was because I didn't tell her where I was going. I had told her I was calling customer service, so I have no idea what she was talking about. It took almost 2 hours to finally get a car at the same rate--though not from this location. Don't waste your time or energy here, especially if you're visiting from out of town. Terrible customer service, complete lack of professionalism, and an overall disastrous experience. Save yourself the hassle and find a more reliable option.

To whom it may concern Upon arriving at rental car facility in Downtown Milwaukee location I was greeted by Shawn, he wouldn't provide his last name. Shawn proceeded to ask how my day was going and I replied "hope it gets better", which was an indicator that it was not all good. I explained to him that I was not able to get a rental from the airport and that's my reason for coming to the Downtown location. I immediately provided my license and credit card upon approaching the counter to make things go smooth. He scanned my ID then asked for a second proof of identity which I thought was odd. I provided him my CDL learners permit as secondary proof. Shawn then ask me for my address which I assured him that what he was looking at on both pieces of ID was correct. Shawn then flared up informing me that I needed to say my address verbally like he was some sort of law official. I got agitated at this demand as having never experience this type of of treatment before. I verbalized it to him anyway then he asked for my email address which again is more information than I have ever given anyone in my twice a month car renting experience. When asking why all this information was needed he got nasty with me and telling me how I should annunciate my words. I then told him I am the customer and that he don't get to mistreat me because the tone of my voice especially after informing of my not so good day. I gave him everything that he asked for and Shawn proceed to tell me he don't have to rent to me, so I took my ID and left. I never seen so blatant abuse of power and mistreatment from such a prominent company but this will truly deter me from using budget and will do my best to inform family, friend and the public about my experience.

One worker here was helpful though obviously handling much more work than he should. I'm not saying he wasn't multi-tasking well, the place is woefully understaffed. In this way and many others, it's pretty typical of the dismal state of car rental customer service in the Milwaukee area, but I think Yelp reviews should be genre specific to be most fair. This location has better customer service than the downtown location. In either case, you have to be very careful about prices, Budget is pretty deceptive. If you make reservations online, and wish to extend for a day or more, calling it in results in a much higher rate. They will purposely try to confuse you by reporting the added days at an "average daily rate," a mean over the length of the rental. If you're renting because you have to run out of town for a funeral it's hard to clock all the mind tricks they use. However, the young man working here did readjust our most recent rental downwards to the agreed upon original rate with discount, but he had to have it pointed out to him. On previous occasions, Budget has charged me for days I didn't use a rental when returning the car early, so don't think you can win by making a reservation for longer than you think you need it. They are pretty aggressive about pushing the unnecessary additional insurance (call your credit card company so you know what you're already covered for ahead of time), but one time I did get the additional coverage and had a parking lot dent and not only is that not covered by their additional coverage, I found out at that time that their additional insurance first gets your credit card and personal auto insurance to pay first. At this location, in and out is a little faster and more pleasant than at MKE, and you're very close to the Milwaukee Intermodal (AMTRAK and buses). The cars aren't all that clean, but not any worse than at the airport. Do be very careful to examine your vehicle before signing, inside and out.

SCAM AND FRAUD ALERT. Consumer beware. After settling a recent class action, Budget is setting them self's up for another. Here is there current scam. When you book on line and you say you want to pick up at the airport, Budget will automatically book you at a non airport location. Then when you get to the airport, the reservations agent will say nothing to you and charge you the airport rates. THIS IS A CLASSIC BAIT AND SWITCH. I am happy to be a part of any class action that is going after these scammers.

Just tried to rent a car and the lady said they don't accept a chase debit or chase credit card??? I just rented a car last week from budget and it wasn't an issue... a big waste of my time.

Over the weekend, I rented a vehicle from your company at the 603 N. 4th street location in Milwaukee, wi., and I have never had such a horrific customer experience in my life. We walked in and not even reaching the counter, your company representative (Billy) harshly yells out "There are no more rentals!" There was no, "How may I help you," not even a standard "Hi," he didn't ask our names, he didn't ask if we had reservations, he instead assumed that we didn't have reservations. We were immediately embarrassed but also concerned we were out of a rental. We expressed to Billy that we had a reservation and that's when he decides to check and was able to quickly find our name, with no acknowledgement of his mistaken assumption I might add. When we inquired on SHORTENING the length of our reservation dates, he proceeds to tell us that changing a reservation was not an option because other customers would not have cars(how does that even make sense?). Because Billy didn't seem like he wanted our business, we stepped out and called to verify. Comes to find out it was doable and we were able to get it done right away over the phone. We go back into the office to finish up as quickly as possible, to get away from this wretched man whom represents your company. He proceeds to tell us loudly that it is UNFORTUNATE that the reservation was able to be changed. I was in disbelief that he actually said that and showed no regret in his comment. He does not stop there, but states that he can't wait to retire because he hates his job although he has been in the business for 18 years. I asked for his name at the end of the transaction and says "My name is Billy, go ahead and get me fired. I don't care." This was my first time ever renting from your company and I can't believe this is who you have representing your company. I will think twice before I ever patronize your company again.

Worst place in the world! Planned vacation ruined! I confirmed that Budget accepted debit cards on Budget's website, prior to arrival. Excited to start my vacation, I went to Budget to pick up my rental for my family annual camp out and the clerk states, "their location doesn't accept debit cards!". I've rented there before, with out a problem. However, it's under new management. Meaning, worst service! Do not go there! Avoid like the plague! Luckily, Enterprise on S. 27th, came through last minute. Ironically, this is the second time they helped me out. The last time, Avis/Budget gave away my car, April 2017, Avis in West Allis. And the same Enterprise helped me out. Enterprise maybe more money, but they offer "World Class Service"!!! For your peace of mind, it's worth every dollar! Imagine all that you do to plan a vacation, all you are stressed about, and have it completely derailed at the last moment. The frustration you'd experience as well as disappointment. Just avoid the agony and don't go to this Budget and save yourself some heartache.

got a "deal" on Priceline... Gas was less than full when I picked up the car. Had to return the vehicle early due to a death in the family and could not pick up the receipt. when I checked the account, there was a hefty charge for three day rental. when I called Budget to question the bill, the person was rude and sarcastic. I asked for an itemized bill and was told the manager would email it to me however, they could not tell me when it would be emailed to me or when the manager would call me. After ending the call, the person called me back again to tell me that I had been billed correctly. however, they could not tell me how they knew the amount was correct or the itemized amount on the receipt. When I tried to identify how the amount had been calculated I realized there were an extensive amount of extra fees and charges. lesson learned, do not rent from Budget and do not use Priceline.

Free tip! Literally take a photo of the gas gauge and make sure it shows the mileage when you take possession of the car. Then do the same the moment you park it to return it. Check over the paperwork they give you BEFORE you sign anything or leave the premises. The gas gauge on the car we rented was one of the bar type ones and we returned it with the EXACT same lines showing on the gauge. Somehow between the place we picked it up (downtown) and where we returned it (airport) the number of lines showing was a 1/4 tank difference to the people working there. The car we rented was great overall; clean, ran well, no real issues with the vehicle itself. The issue is they will rip you off on the gas!!!! Doesn't matter where the fuel gauge reads they mark down whatever they feel like and charge you the difference. Also, make sure you double check the car for your personal stuff, I left a toiletries bag in the car and called about an hour later when I realized this and somehow it never turned up. Lost and found only equals lost apparently.
