This place was one of the first Puertorican places I tried when I moved to Milwaukee and it has never disappointed! Everything is delicious, truly!!! I was simple this time and got a ham sandwich with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and cheese and even that hit the spot. I would definitely recommend their pastries if you have a sweet tooth! While small in size with limited seating, the service you get is great. They do take some time to come out with the food but that is part of them being a small, local owned business and you will definitely not be disappointed once you taste the food.

I decided the food is too good, and the workers are too nice to NOT have this authentically Puerto Rican bakery in my regular rotation. Best breakfast around, and I just can't find an item they offer that isn't totally delicious. But it is popular so sometimes you have to wait in line. Make some new friends, a lot of Puerto Rican customers and they just can't help but be friendly. Maybe it's not cultural, maybe it's because they are happy to be here. Maybe it's both. Two things on my wish list are, 1) espresso, and 2) less wasteful plastic.

Well, chalk it up to Bad Bunny's new album, but after my first and only visit to Johanna's five years ago, I needed some quesitos ASAP and made my way there again. Prices continue to be affordable. If you are trying to decide how many different delicious Puerto Rican pastries to take home, the mini sampler box with quesitos, tornillos, pastelillitos de guayaba, and guava quesitos might be a good start. It's $20 for what could be a nice office and/or gathering treat. Oh, those quesitos! Concho (the character in Bad Bunny's short film and album) would be delighted. If you'd rather not drive and worry about parking, routes 56 and 20 get you pretty close to Johanna's Cafe.

I've been here a few times and The food is really good and made to order. The cheese flan is my favorite.

One of this weeks new restaurant of the week to stop by. When I first moved to this city I don't remember seeing any Puerto Rican restaurants and now we have a few showing up on Yelp. Puerto Rican food is my least eaten food because there is so few restaurants and none in my immediate area which is a shame because it's very good food. This place is very east of me and well worth the drive. The restaurant is tucked away in an area with plenty of ethnic restaurants in a family neighborhood. The restaurant is small with a few tables and it's also a mini bakery with lots of sweet treats. The menu is one sheet with both sides full from breakfast to dinners and drinks including beer, wine and mixed drinks. My favorite is the is Puerto Rican food is the jibarito and the Puerto Rican rice. I grew up eating Puerto Rican food because my best friend at the time had me over for dinner after playing during the day. The traditional jibartio sandwich is weird because it has no bread but instead flattened fried plantains filled with meat, lettuce, onions, cheese and garlic Mayo as a example. My jibartio was a carnitas style pork with lettuce, cheese, tomato and Mayo which was absolutely delicious and piping hot on my plate. The Puerto Rican rice had green olives and beans which was cooked perfect al dente so no mushy rice and delicious also. My whole plate was flavorful and seasoned nicely and one of the better new restaurant of the week stop over. My Yelp nick name is neighborhood traveler because I have always said that you have to get off Main Street and get into the neighborhoods, good or bad because hidden gems are waiting to be uncovered. I would definitely recommend this hidden gem.

I've visited twice, so far. Johanna's is a bakery and cafe that specializes in Puerto Rican food. Once for lunch with my mom and sister and once for desserts with a friend. Both visits were great, and they were busier on the second visit, which tells me that business is doing well! On my first visit, I ordered a Jibaro (pronounced HEE bah row) sandwich where a fried plantain is used in place of bread, and it was delicious, as was the arroz con gandules served with it. We shared an order of alcapurrias, which are root vegetables grated to a paste, then filled with meat and potatoes and seasoning, rolled and deep fried. They were also delicious. My mom and sister shared a pernil sandwich that they enjoyed and the mofongo I sampled was also on point! On the second visit, I really enjoyed the vanilla flan and tres leches cake, in particular. I definitely want to go back to try more of their menu!

I saw this cute little place on channel 12 and instantly had a craving for authentic Puerto Rican food! And it was in my old neighborhood where I grew up! I lucked out and was able to find a parking spot near by. I got there just before the lunch rush arrived but is was about a 25 minutes wait. Everything is made to order. They have menus but there was only one thing I wanted, the carne frita and mofongo. While I was waiting, I ended up getting some slices of cherry cheesecake. I then went to a park near my house and ate. The carne frita, Perfecto! It had the crispy exterior with bits of fat and tender meat. The mofongo was a little dry but still hit the spot.

I love this spot because the food isn't greasy. I think Johanna makes good desserts too. She know what she is doing. The customer service is always great too. The place is just small but it's always kept clean.
