It's been 12 years since my last review. Well, twelve years later, my BYO burger with American cheese, pickles, and bacon is still one of the best burgers in town, and the fresh cut fries are still perfect! My burger was cooked to the temp I ordered. The bun was soft and fresh, lightly toasted and generously buttered. The fries were fried in clean oil and crisp. The details matter, and this place cares about serving quality. Hence my rating uograde from 4 to 5 stars. I need to do a better job of coming in more often because the list of dishes I want to try keeps growing. The customer next to me ordered the Steak n Egg Bagel sandwich with American fries, and I wanted to order that after my burger. Unfortunately I was stuffed from my burger and fries, so I need to get back soon for it! Service was also excellent. Well done, North Ave Grill!

Date of visit: September 16, 2025 This was near some friends and they raved about the food--especially the breakfast items, which they serve all day. I should have listened to them because I went with more of a lunch/dinner type item and it wasn't made the way I asked for it. My husband also went lunch/dinner and also did not get what he asked for. Staff was frustrated and apologetic, but I didn't love the delay after a long day at work. Thankfully the second time was the charm and my bananas foster milkshake was quite good and definitely something I would recommend. A member of staff had their little one hanging around, and while I don't normally care about that, when they wandered outside and were playing a bit closer to the street than I was comfortable with, I knew it was time to go. The outdoor seating is directly on the sidewalk, so if that is not your jam, look to sit inside instead, though this did not bother me at all. Next time I come I would listen to my friends and hope for an error free breakfast item instead!

North Ave Grill is decent. I really like the French Onion Soup. I've also had a few of the sandwiches which have all been good. But the French onion soup is my favorite. The portions are huge. I often can't finish my whole meal, especially since I get a cup of soup, sandwich, then fries with the sandwich. Service is friendly. If you can't tell, I recommend the soup. (The French onion soup is more savory than sweet, so if you prefer the sweeter ones, you may not feel the same that I do.) =)

Mixed feelings after two visits. The first time I went to North Avenue Grill, I had the BBQ sandwich--really good and a generous portion. That visit left a great impression, so I came back again. On my second visit, I ordered the orange dreamsicle shake and the grilled chicken avocado sandwich. Unfortunately, both missed the mark. The shake was overwhelmingly orange, and the chicken and cheese in the sandwich just didn't taste quite right. To make matters worse, my friend found a hair embedded in her waffle with all the fixings. Understandably, she didn't eat the rest of her meal. On the bright side, the service was great, and the place had a lively, busy atmosphere. There's no parking lot, but if you go about a half block into the neighborhood, there's usually plenty of street parking. Still, I'm undecided about returning, mainly because of the hair and the underwhelming chicken sandwich.

I now have 254 (and counting) checkins at NAG, for good reason. You might ask "what are those reasons? What makes you come here at least once a week?" * The people - it starts at the top with ana owner Mike, because he hires only kind people, most of whom have been here for years. We're here enough that the delightful servers pretty much know what we're getting. They're all completely great & the #1 reason we come here because they treat us like family. * The food - I get the same thing every time (pretty much) and the consistency and deliciousness is ON POINT. The mister changes it up - sometimes a creative special, sometimes breakfast, sometimes a decadent Peppercorn Horsey burger. No matter what we get, it's delicious, well executed and served up fast! * The Space - this is one of the few places I feel good about dining in during These Unprecedented Times (god I hate that phrase almost as much as I hate 2020). Slide into the big oversized booths with high partitions and the Covid can't get you. I see the care that's taken with cleaning too so I trust that I'm as safe as I can be here. Bottom line - 2020 has been awful and NAG is my safe & happy place. Big thanks to all the workers here who consistently make me tasty food and are so nice!

Wow... is definitely a word I can use to describe this place. This is a cozy little restaurant with absolutely delicious food. A nice variety of items on the menu. Great service and attentive staff. The atmosphere is great. The major negative is that it's not located on the south side where I am. You literally feel like you went into a small town Mom and Pop diner that has been serving food created from their family recipes.... and you are just privileged to have been able to stop in and experience it. Amazing portion sizes. The Cubano sandwich was absolutely one of the best I've ever had. The salads were amazing as was the club sandwich. I feel sorry for all the other restaurants nearby as this should be your only go to place. You will love it.

I took my daughter here for lunch before she returned to Madison. Lunch was wonderful because of the food. We always leave with a doggie bag. Our server Amy was fantastic. I had a patty melt and my daughter had the chicken tenders with garlic butter drizzled on them.THEY WERE THE BOMB!!

North Ave Grill is one of my go-to spots in Wauwatosa. I've been there several times and have enjoyed everything on the menu! Pictured is the Ahi Tuna B.L.T Sandwich. The Wasabi mayo is a great addition to the sandwich. Their sides include fries, fruit, or coleslaw. The fries have great seasoning. Also highly recommend their Friday fish fry! Seated 4 adults and 3 children within 10-15 minutes on a Saturday morning. One adult in a wheelchair was accommodated. Two adult orders of chicken and waffles, two orders of kids French toast, one power hash, order of garlic Parmesan chicken with fries. Additional sides of toast, eggs, bacon and sausage. Food was tasty, hot and delivered at the same time! Drinks included orange and cranberry juice, milk and Bloody Mary topped with white cheese curds, pickle spear, bacon and lemon and a Miller shorty chaser. Maple syrup accompanied meals. Chicken was moist and nicely breaded. Two large pieces resulted in a take home box. Kids ate everything and laughed at the syrup in what resembled a "sippy" cup. Even though restaurant was fully seated, noise level and ambiance was perfect for our group.
