The location is the best part but this is way below par for the JW experience anywhere else. I understand that it’s probably a challenge getting rooms ready on time for people who fly in first thing in the morning, but hair in the tub and sink are low hanging fruit. If I wasn’t traveling with young children, I’d have requested a room change. There’s really not much else to talk about. The executive lounge is ok and has a great view but again, the views and location are all that’s great about this location. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it. It’s a “safe” choice but nothing spectacular.

Staff were friendly and nice, we had an issue with check in and at first, we checked in at around 2:45pm, they told us to wait 10-15 minutes for the room to be ready, after waiting 30 minutes, we asked if the room was ready, it was not and they told us to wait an additional 15 minutes. After waiting a total of 45 minutes, we asked again, and they told us another few minutes. I am upset that they kept adding more time without just being honest with us the first few times. We ended up waiting about an hour. We were given the third floor (as titanium members) and the room was outdated and small. There is one window that faces the inside of the building, there is no view.
UPDATE!!
Fortunately we saw an open room with an ocean view and we asked to be upgraded and they were very accommodating. Staff is always very friendly especially Halison! Thank you!!

Disappointing Experience at a JW Marriott

As a Titanium Elite member and a loyal Marriott guest for the past 13 years, I’ve traveled extensively and have always appreciated the quality associated with the brand. While the location of this hotel is great and the breakfast was enjoyable, I found the rooms to be outdated and not reflective of the JW Marriott standard.

My major concern, however, revolves around a troubling experience during my checkout in January. The hotel placed a hold of approximately $1,220 on my card, which is typical for a stay. However, I was unexpectedly asked for payment again at checkout. The front desk staff was not only unhelpful but also insisted I pay, which seemed unusual since the deposit usually covers the costs. Reluctantly, I complied.

Now, over a month later, I’m still trying to resolve the refund issue. I received confirmation of the refund three weeks ago, but the funds have yet to appear in my account. To make matters worse, I'm being asked to provide proof of the refund as if the hotel cannot verify the transaction on their end. This has been incredibly frustrating and feels disrespectful, especially considering the impact of blocked funds.

In all my years with Marriott, I’ve never experienced anything like this. I hope to see improvements in their customer service and refund process immediately

I had high expectations for this hotel but really failed. The hotel is located in a great area close to the beach, bars, and restaurants. Walking distance to almost everything and has amazing views! The hotel is old-fashioned and needs upgrades, but it is kept in good condition. The room was ok but not the best for the price. I think you are paying more for the location than the stay. My room was facing the beach with a small window size view. The members' lounge is very small, and the service was very light compared to other hotels, but it had a great view of the besch. The customer services was very slow, unprofessional, not friendly, not welcoming, and very uncomfortable! I did not like the manner of how they spoke or addressed conversation or situations while staying there. It felt like everything was a pain for them. When I checked in, I had two friends who needed a couple hrs to waist till they left to the airport. The employee told me they could not join me in my room or to look around, nor to the top moon lounge pool area. The employee spoke with such an awful tone of voice with a very nasty attitude when we just asked politely. I was only allowed in one guest, and as a platinum member for years, this is the first time I heard of this or was treated this way. Not just this situation, but the employees and the environment were not pleasant, nor did it feel as good energy. I only stayed one night and was ready to leave the same day. I will not recommend this marriott for the overall stay. There are so many other hotels in this area with amazing views and great welcoming customer service where you feel great in Rio! Due to my experience, I will not be going back to this marriott. I've been a marriott platinum member for some time, and this stay trully let me down!

Great location on Copacabana Beach but that’s about it, otherwise not up to the flag. About half the rooms have an exterior window, so if you don’t get an upgraded room, you’ll be facing the interior courtyard. Rooms themselves are functional but outdated. If you have status, don’t expect it to be recognized (I needed to ask multiple times for my Bonvoy number to be included and I doubt that it ever was). I’d gladly go to Rio again but I’d be looking for a different property.
