Stayed here for my 30th birthday with my partner. This was my first time in Brazil and as soon as we walked through the doors we were helped with our luggage and greeted with champagne. This hotel has all the amenities to make you feel comfortable. I wanted a balcony so I can take in the views of the warm weather and feel the beautiful Rio sun on my skin from the comfort of my own room. The breakfast is buffet style and is perfect hours from 6am-10:30am and have variety of fruits and cereal and traditional Brazilian breakfast items. The rooftop pool was gorgeous but my favorite room was the gym which is the highest point of the hotel. Working out on my vacation is not ideal but being able to workout with incredible views on the rooftop made the experience less strenuous. My only takeaway from this hotel is that they only have two small elevators which fits about 7 people each but there is 20 floors so sometimes you are in line waiting just get in the elevator but other than that this was a magnificent stay in a beautiful safe location on a beautiful beach in a beautiful city.

Without the friendly staff and the good location this hotel would have been rated 1 star.

Hotel was old and poorly maintained. The hallway had musty smell, the sink did not drain well and the bathroom floor leaked. I met two other guests on the elevator and and they were not very happy about their stay either. One Swiss could told me that they will be staying at another hotel when they return to Rio from Uruguay.

I chose this hotel as a last resort after my travel office failed to book another hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I was looking at all the poor reviews and it seems that the hotel has improved a few things over the past years. Breakfast, the view, the staff are amazing. The bed is large, the sheets and towels are nice and everything was clean, including the balcony glass. There is a coffee pod machine (albeit $10 per pod and potentially not every room has one) and complimentary water bottles. Sometimes you need to wait a little while for the lift. Otherwise we were very happy and very grateful for the upgraded room!

Pros:
Very good location, across the beach.
The hotel looks luxurious from the outside.
Nice bed and linen.
The staff tried their best to provide a good service but a bit shallow.
Cons:
Old smelly rooms. We had to change rooms after 1 night due to mold in the room. I requested another room at 1 in the morning because I couldn’t breathe but there were no rooms available for the first night so I slept with the vent and door open.
The next day the cleaning lady wiped the mold and the reception asked us if the smell still persisted…well this is not how you get rid of the mold so I wanted to move.
The 2nd room didn’t smelled that bad but but some sewer smell occured from the bathroom.
In this humid enviroment there is no vent in the bathroom.
Good breakfast except the expired cream cheese (over 1 month) that I almost ate this morning. (Green mold inside)
The sauna was the outside temperature, so I couldn’t use it really.

We stayed in Lisbon in the hotel fron the same chain and we had a great experience. So out expectations were quite high vs what we received.

This hotel was amazing.One of the best experiences we've ever had. Right across your street from copacabana beach.If you go to the beach, they have workers that will give you free umbrellas, chairs and towels, and will watch your belongings if you go into the water. The rooms were amazing.The pool on the roof was beautiful , especially with the views of the beach and christ the redimer.  The drinks and food by the pool were awesome.  Such a great experience,  perfectly located,  great service, front desk equally amazing. What a view from the gym and welcomed with a complimentary glass of champagne.

The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of the Porto Bay hotel and requires the hotel front desk to let you up. No reservations required. View is of the beach and there are windows across the entire restaurant to enjoy the beautiful view. The restaurant is on the slower side, probably because it's a bit hidden to find, but the food turned out to be great! Lots of pasta options to pick from and risotto. Highly recommend the ravioli. Service for drinks is slower, so keep that in mind.
