This is 1 of the greatest visual spectacles I have ever witnessed!
I was there in 2008 (the pictures were taken with a SD camcorder.  I apologize for the low quality however they show the magnificence of the event).

The ambiance is incredible!  You dance throughout the show, the people are happy and friendly. The Music, The Dance, The Performers, The Karts are simply INCREDIBLE!  I was mesmerized the whole time.

Get Tickets in the cheapest section, it's fantastic!

This is a must do in a lifetime!

Carnival is one of the most spectacular events in the world. Samba drome and Rio turn so colorful for this week. Highly recommend buying tickets in advance. All night event with samba dancing going all the way into the next morning. Just mind blowing!

got my tickets in this agency online, i wanted to make sure the website i was buying had a physical address in Rio. it was my first time attending this event and i wanted to buy at a safe place. Some locals will say to buy directly outside cuz is cheaper but 1-i dont speak the languague, and how can you tell those outside are originals. 2- this is a safe website for paying with credit cards and 3- i got them in advance (i got them earlier januaray and with disccount), so when i arrived to Rio i already got my tickets. i even received an email about opening hours.
the place where to take the tickets was also easy to find but didnt have a billboard, but can be easily found with the # and the people there speak english and spanish. they also sell carnival  stuffs, garments and souvenirs....so i can tell all fellow travelers this is safe website to buy online.

A Great experience, starts late and finishes late (6am). We bought tickets in the section with the locals and the atmosphere was electric. I wondered why the sellers had so much red bull, but I can see now as they need it to stay awake. well worth a visit. Lots of other activities around the place. so be prepared
