Visiting Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado was an unforgettable experience. We were lucky to have perfect weather, which gave us breathtaking panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro. The views of the city from up there are absolutely stunning and definitely worth seeing.

However, be prepared for crowds—everyone wants their iconic photo with Christ’s outstretched arms. Despite the number of tourists, the atmosphere remains special, and the view alone makes the visit absolutely worth it.

If possible, try to go early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid peak crowds. A must-visit landmark when in Rio!

No visit to Rio de Janeiro is complete without ascending to the iconic and large scale of Christ the Redeemer. A symbol of both faith and an iconic symbol of RIO. Be prepared for the ever-present hum of helicopters ferrying visitors to the summit around $180 USD. Pro tip: It’s OK to have a cloudy day for your visit, as we did with a local friend. The mist lends an heavenly atmosphere, transforming the monument into a silhouette of serene majesty against shifting skies and birds flying past.

Navigating the Journey UP.
Beware of individuals near the base urging you to join their "exclusive tours." Politely decline and continue upward. We followed our inner self and parked (under a quarter-mile) on the side of the road.  Keep your eyes peeled—playful monkeys often dart through the trees, adding whimsy to the trek.

Logistics & Tips
At the entrance, an air-conditioned clean gift shop offers air conditioning (and souvenirs), though note that discounts apply *only* to Brazilian students—others can expect a modest $10 USD entry fee. From there, a streamlined shuttle system transports visitors to the base of the statue. A gentle reminder: Preserve the site’s beauty by disposing of trash responsibly.  Don’t leave your trash in the bus.

The Final Ascent
Upon arrival, choose between elevators, escalators, or stairs to reach the viewing platform. Patience is key: the summit buzzes with photo-seeking travelers, so navigate there outstretched arms. Even on a partly cloudy day, the panoramic vista of Rio—its peaks, ocean, and urban tapestry—is nothing short of breathtaking.

In essence, Christ the Redeemer not just sightseeing; it’s a pilgrimage into the heart of Rio’s spirit. The whole trip was less than 2 hours.

It is definitely a wonder of the world. But the insane ammount of people truly ruin the experience. You have to go during the week and early morning for the least amount of people. And in the winter (june/july)

Tips:
- pre buy your ticket and go from one of the pick up spots in town, instead of making your way up
- keep your tickets, you will need to show them over and over again
- bring water
- take the stairs up instead of waiting for elevator once you get to the main station
- learn how to photoshop people out of your picture
- don't buy the official pictures (30 reais for 1, 60 for 3)
- use the bathroom before you go up to the top

The top of the world feeling is indescribable. The sense of redemption was achieved when Christ the Redeemer was met face to face. The 360 view of Rio De Janeiro was breathlessly stunning and in awe. We took the chartered coach to the station was the cable car broke down due to power failure. We paid 100 Reais to get to the station on top and paid another 85 Reais to reach the top.
The walk from the station to Christ the Redeemer is about 15 minutes. It was an easy journey and you could already see the bays and city skyscrapers on the way to the top.

I tried to look up every where if it’s possible to be at the top for sunset and couldn’t work it out. Sun currently sets at 6:40 and the last tram down is 6:30 officially. We stayed up there for sunset and then joined the large queue of people waiting to get the last tram down. There was definitely another tram after us as well because of the amount of people in the queue. So don’t stress if that’s what you want to do, they won’t leave you up there. There is a bar / restaurant and gift shop up there so you can chill while you wait for sunset. The crowds were big when we first got there, but by sunset it was a lot calmer and nicer.
