Honestly, I never leave bad reviews but I have to write this one.

This is 100% a tourist trap.

I normally agree with worlds 50 best or 100 best restaurants but in this case I don’t even know how it got on the list.

As a Peruvian who has tried A LOT of Peruvian restaurants in Peru and around the world, this was by far the worst meal I have ever had… and it wasn’t just me, my whole Peruvian side of the family agreed.

If you are a tourist, you’ll probably like it because you don’t actually know what these food SHOULD taste like, but as a Peruvian, you’ll know it’s not up to par.

The biggest issue was the salt. So much salt. It was inedible. We let the waiter know right away and they did absolutely nothing. Didn’t offer to change the plate or anything.

Terrible service, terrible food.
Would not recommend to anyone.

Much better criollo restaurants in Lima to try. Don’t waste your money.

Isolina in Lima was a culinary delight! We shared a fantastic lunch with our friends and their warm Peruvian family. The ceviche was vibrant and fresh, and the anticuchos were perfectly grilled. The atmosphere buzzed with happy chatter, and the staff were incredibly attentive. It was the perfect meal, a true taste of Peru. Highly recommended for anyone seeking authentic and delicious Peruvian cuisine.

Definitely a great place to discover delicious Peruvian cuisine and is located in a beautiful neighborhood. Afterward, take an evening walk to work out from too much eating at the restaurant. The portion is huge!! Remember to ask for a small plate to serve, otherwise you won't able to finish them all.

The ambience is homey and casual . I have added the menu in English for your convenience . The restaurant has Great local vibes. Our host  Rosa was very helpful and warm .  She helped us with the portion size and the food options. Great food and taste . We had few traditional dishes and I have added the photos with names . Please check them to know the names.

The **escabeche** was the clear standout of the meal – absolutely delicious! 🥘 The flavors were rich, layered, and everything I hoped for. It’s a dish that truly showcases why Isolina has such a strong reputation.

On the other hand, the **papa rellena** didn’t quite hit the mark for me. It wasn’t bad by any means, but it lacked the depth and wow factor I was expecting. I’d be curious to try it again on another visit to see if it was just an off moment.

Service was polite but felt a bit perfunctory. Our server was attentive enough, though there wasn’t much warmth or engagement. The host team also seemed a little disengaged, which was surprising given that it wasn’t peak hours. I understand that hospitality can vary, but it did take away slightly from the overall experience.

That said, I’d definitely go back. The escabeche alone is worth returning for, and I’m eager to explore more of the menu. Isolina clearly has a lot to offer, and I’m hopeful that future visits will deliver the full, exceptional experience I’ve heard so much about.
