Top Spots for a Relaxed Morning Out

The most talked-about brunch spot in the centre, and for good reason. 

 on Via del Pellegrino near Campo de' Fiori runs from 8am to 3.30pm daily with a menu that mixes Italian pastries with more international options: avocado toast, turmeric bread with hummus and chickpeas, excellent matcha. The space is bright and unhurried, and the coffee is taken seriously. Queues form from mid-morning on weekends. Arrive before 9am or after 2pm to walk straight in.

 on Via dei Due Macelli has built a strong reputation for its avocado toast, fresh maritozzi and well-made coffee. The interior is compact and fills quickly, but the wait is generally short. Prices are fair for the location and the quality is consistently above what you find at most touristy cafes in this part of the city. Open from 6.30am daily.

📍 Via dei Due Macelli, 107 — Spagna | $ | 6.30am–8pm daily

 is one of the most generous brunch spots in the neighbourhood: large portions, a broad menu spanning bagels, pancakes, eggs and smoothies, and prices that stay honest. Everything is made in-house. The outdoor terrace on the square is one of the more pleasant places to sit for a long morning in Trastevere. Open from 8am daily.

📍 Piazza di San Giovanni della Malva, 2 — Trastevere | $$ | 8am–midnight daily

A Trastevere all-rounder that works from early morning through to late night. 

on Via di San Francesco a Ripa does a solid brunch with good toast, freshly baked croissants and quality coffee, then transitions to wine bar and dinner as the day progresses. The atmosphere is relaxed and local-facing. A reliable choice when you want somewhere that does not feel specifically engineered for tourists.

A three-minute walk from the Vatican Museums, 

 on Via Leone IV serves brunch from 8am with a menu that covers eggs, pancakes, bruschetta and fresh juices alongside very good coffee. The room is attractive and the staff are notably warm. A strong option for anyone spending a morning in the Vatican area who wants to eat well without venturing far.

📍 Via Leone IV, 34 — Prati | $$ | 8am–10pm Mon–Sat, 9am–4pm Sun

A small, cosy bistro on Via degli Scipioni with a loyal neighbourhood following. 

 is known for its bagels, which are made in-house and genuinely good, and for a breakfast menu that changes slightly by the day. The space is intimate and the atmosphere unhurried. Closed on Sundays, which makes it best for a weekday brunch when the area around Prati is at its most local.

📍 Via degli Scipioni, 111 — Prati | $$ | 8.30am–3pm Mon–Sat

 on Via Marcantonio Colonna is one of the earliest starts in Prati and draws a mix of locals, early workers and visitors making their way to the Vatican. The avocado toast with salmon and the mortadella sandwich are both well worth ordering. Closes at 6pm on weekdays and 2.30pm on Saturday. Closed Sundays.

A Rome institution in one of the city's most characterful neighbourhoods. 

 on Via Fanfulla da Lodi in Pigneto has been open since 1924 and was reportedly a favourite of Pier Paolo Pasolini. The garden terrace is one of the most pleasant places to sit for a long brunch in the city: shaded, unhurried and with a genuinely local atmosphere. The food is straightforward and well-executed. Worth the 20-minute metro and walk from the centre.

📍 Via Fanfulla da Lodi, 68 — Pigneto | $$ | 8am–1am daily

A neighbourhood staple on Via del Pigneto with an eclectic atmosphere and a terrace that fills quickly on weekend mornings. 

does reliable coffee, excellent pistachio croissants and savoury pancakes that are consistently recommended by regulars. Open from 8am daily. Doubles as a wine bar into the evening, which makes it one of the more versatile addresses in this part of the city.
