Mar Bella is one of Barcelona's most distinctive and beloved beaches, particularly popular with the LGBTQ+ community and known for its relaxed, inclusive, and wonderfully open atmosphere. Sant Miquel Beach sits at the northern end of the Barceloneta stretch, blending almost seamlessly into its more famous neighbor but offering a slightly calmer and less crowded alternative. The beach is well maintained and equipped with all the standard facilities, and its position close to the Gothic Quarter and the Born neighborhood makes it one of the most conveniently located beaches in the city for visitors staying in the historic center. Named after the historic shantytown that once occupied this stretch of the Barcelona waterfront, Somorrostro Beach sits between Barceloneta and Bogatell and offers a slightly more relaxed and local atmosphere than its neighbors. The beach is broad, well maintained, and equipped with good facilities, and it tends to attract a mix of city residents and visitors who prefer a quieter spot away from the busiest sections of the Barcelona coastline. The surrounding area has undergone significant regeneration in recent decades and is home to some excellent restaurants and bars.

Nova Icaria is one of the most family-friendly beaches in Barcelona, situated in the Olympic Village area just north of Barceloneta. The beach is broad and well protected, with calmer waters than some of the more exposed stretches further along the coast, making it a popular choice for families with young children. The facilities are excellent, with sun lounger hire, beach bars, sports courts, and lifeguards, and the surrounding Olympic Village neighborhood offers a good range of restaurants and cafes for post-beach meals.

Bogatell is one of the most popular beaches among Barcelona residents themselves, which is always a reliable indicator of quality. Located just north of the Olympic Village, it is slightly further from the main tourist areas than Barceloneta, giving it a more local and relaxed atmosphere. The beach is long, clean, and well equipped, with excellent sports facilities including a popular outdoor gym, volleyball and basketball courts, and a dedicated cycling lane along the promenade. The chiringuitos here are consistently good, and the overall vibe is friendly, active, and enjoyably unpretentious.

Barceloneta is Barcelona's most famous and most visited beach, and for good reason. Stretching for over a kilometer along the edge of the old Barceloneta neighborhood, this broad sandy beach has everything you could want from a city beach: sun lounger hire, beach bars and chiringuitos, volleyball courts, outdoor showers, lifeguards, and a wonderfully vibrant atmosphere that is uniquely Barcelona. The promenade behind the beach is lined with restaurants and cafes, and the neighborhood itself, with its narrow streets and excellent seafood restaurants, is well worth exploring before or after your beach visit.

Situated just north of Mar Bella, Nova Mar Bella is a quieter and more residential beach that offers a welcome respite from the busiest stretches of the Barcelona coastline. The beach is clean and well maintained, with a calmer and more laid-back atmosphere than the beaches closer to the city center. It is a popular choice among local families and residents from the nearby Poblenou and Diagonal Mar neighborhoods, and its relative tranquility makes it an excellent option for visitors who want to enjoy the Mediterranean without the crowds.

Platja de les Roques d'en Lluc is one of Barcelona's lesser-known coastal spots, tucked away at the northern end of the city's beach strip near the Diagonal Mar neighborhood. The beach has a more natural and rugged feel than some of the more polished beaches further south, with rocky outcrops that give it a distinctive character and make it a favorite among snorkelers and those who prefer a less manicured beach environment. It is noticeably quieter than the main city beaches and offers a more peaceful and authentic seaside experience.

Llevant is the northernmost beach within the Barcelona city limits, situated beyond the Diagonal Mar shopping center and offering one of the most tranquil and uncrowded beach experiences the city has to offer. The beach has been steadily improved in recent years and now offers good facilities alongside its naturally calm and relaxed atmosphere. It is a firm favorite with local residents from the northern neighborhoods of the city and a genuine hidden gem for visitors who are prepared to travel a little further along the coastline in search of a quieter spot.

Located approximately 20 kilometers south of Barcelona along the Costa Garraf, Castelldefels is one of the most popular and rewarding beach destinations within easy reach of the city. The beach here is broad, long, and sandy, stretching for several kilometers along the coast with a more open and spacious feel than the urban beaches of Barcelona itself. The water is clean, the facilities are excellent, and the range of chiringuitos, seafood restaurants, and beach bars along the promenade is outstanding. Castelldefels is easily reached by train from Barcelona Sants and makes for a perfect half-day or full-day beach excursion from the city.

Not to be confused with the famous city in the Basque Country, Barcelona's San Sebastian Beach is a small and charming stretch of sand located between the Barceloneta neighborhood and the W Hotel at the end of the Passeig de la Barceloneta. The beach has a wonderful atmosphere and a strong local following, and its position at the foot of the distinctive W Hotel makes it one of the most visually striking beach settings in Barcelona. The surrounding area is full of excellent seafood restaurants and beach bars, making it a great spot for a full day by the sea.
