Ok but not worth the price. The property looks beautiful from the outside and in the lobbies and it’s in a decent location. However, the inside of the rooms are a bit run down and damp.

Staff at check were was nice. The lobby bar was very depressing and had the drink selection of a Holiday Inn somewhere in rural Ohio. You are likely to be staying in a building some distance from the main lobby and rarely see other people.

I would give this place 10 stars if I could! Service is impeccable, staff is super friendly, and the club room is incredible!

We booked a suite coming here and the room was huge with two bathrooms! More than enough space to lounge with family and friends.

This will definitely be a go to hotel for us anytime we are traveling in the future! If you are in Shanghai, make it one of your stops as well. You wont regret it!

Stayed for a night during a business trip.  This hotel is  beautifully decorated in a huge garden compound.  With buggies to pick up and dropping guests off from the lobby to the guest blocks.  Very relaxing walking within the compounds of the hotel

DON’T USE THE GYM HERE. The Ruijin Guesthouse, as it was known before IHG took over its management, is a Shanghai historic monument set in luscious gardens in the former French concession. IF YOU STAY AT THIS HOTEL, DON’T USE THE  GYM AS IT IS DANGEROUS. I have been using the gym and pool in the basement of the hotel’s Executive Building for several years. Last year a framed picture on the wall above the weights rack fell off and injured my head. It turned out that unlike other  pictures, it was only hung on two little nails so it was just waiting for an accident. I was offered no care or assistance by the staff and after an initial attendance, the hotel management, including IHG head office, ignored my complaint and finally I was forced to hire a lawyer. Circle Harmony who manages the facilities in the basement admitted liability but refused compensation. So if I want to pursue compensation for my injury, I will have to go to court.

This is a 5 star hotel with many hidden 1 star features. Beautiful place, good location - but I have a few major issues
1) Air conditioners/ventilation - the rooms are super hot and stuffy - I’m here in winter, and I run cold. So I was shocked to be sweaty and uncomfortable in the room. The thermostat does not work. I called the staff for help. They brought me a small fan and opened my window. Ha! Meanwhile, this happened at 11:30pm on a Thursday night, and 3 men and 1 women all came to my room to address the problem (which they did not fix - I still woke up in hot sweats) - it felt very weird to make a big production out of this
2) language skills and professionalism of staff - I speak basic mandarin, but still had major communication issues with the staff. For example, I order a tea (hong se cha) in both Chinese and English - and was delivered coffee twice before they got it right (third time is a charm). Professionalism is an issue too. Lots of giggles when observing westerners.
3) rules, rules, rules - it’s all about rules here. For example, I took a tea cup from breakfast back to my room, 1 story up, so I could finish it while I got ready. Well that tea cup must be worth over $1 million dollars! Staff hounded me over it for days before I made a special trip to my room to return it. It was next to my bed by the way. They could have just asked the maid? Lots of little stuff like this, this is one example. It wears you down over time.
4) it’s an Asian world, and it’s a white man’s world - I felt very dismissed and/or laughed at as a single white woman at this hotel. I did not measure up to my white male and Asian counterparts. Staff giggles at me and dismisses me, they do not respect me. Just felt weird.
5) layout of buildings - it’s awkward, difficult to find your building, need to walk a lot once on the grounds and to get to and from the street
6) customer service- again, lacking. I just waited on the street for 30 mins for a taxi with 2 big bags that I rolled myself, no one helped me.

Stay here if you need to, but you probably don’t need to.
