There are a handful of monuments at Waterloo Place including a trio dedicated to the Crimean War. These include the front statues of Florence Nightingale and Sidney Herbert as well as this Guard's Memorial monument which is the work of sculptor John Bell which was unveiled here in 1861.

What you find is an impressive monument featuring a bronze figure of a female representing Honour with her arms extended atop a granite pedestal with three bronze figures of a Grenadier, Fuselier and Coldstream Guard. At back is a bronze shield with foliage and mounted with guns. It is a nice monument well worth viewing for a few minutes when passing through Waterloo Place while sightseeing around London.

It appears that the Crimean War has been largely forgotten by people, considering the low number of visitors to this monument.

During my time in London, I often found myself in the area, and despite the presence of highly popular tourist attractions nearby, such as Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace, the monument's surroundings were all but deserted.

Nevertheless, the monument itself is beautiful and deserves a visit, particularly given its proximity to one of the most beautiful parks in London, St James Park.

Just above the pedestal stands three guardsmen representing the Grenadiers, Scots and the Coldstream Guards. Above the three Guardsmen stands the allegorical figure of Victory, her arms outstretched presenting the laurel leaves of victory.

A truly magnificent memorial to one of the hardest war Britain has ever fought.
