At the start of the meal, I requested for white grape juice but the server came back with a bottle of red grape juice. That's fine, no big deal.

Bones in the fish. I informed the staff and received an apology.

Chocolate dessert was an assembly of sweet on sweet and I had a hard time finishing it. The chocolate tasted rather ordinary.

The plate for the bread was so small. I could see other customers having crumbs all over the place as well.

No hand towels were provided. For a restaurant which serves starters, bread, desserts, etc which uses hands, it would be appropriate. I thought it was common for Michelin restaurants in Japan to provide them but not this time.

There is a decoration in front of my table which is obstructive for the servers. They had to bend awkwardly to reach the right side of my table for water and utensils. It came to a point the staff decided to unprofessionally place all the utensils on my left. The bread basket was also removed before I was done with it as it contributed to the obstruction.

I requested for tap water and tried to confirm a second time with the server. The server took my glass away and came back. I assumed it was tap water but was charged 1500 yen for a glass of water.

The drinks are expensive. The 5 dishes meal cost 13800 yen. Water and juice are priced at 1500 yen. 10 glasses of non-alcoholic drinks would cost more than the Michelin meal.

The overall bill came to be 18479 yen for the 5 dishes meal plus a glass of juice and a glass of water.

Made a reservation for lunch and had the specialty lunch course which included amuse, two appetizers, one of which was the Joël Robuchon's specialty, two mains, and dessert. The menu is at the discretion of the chef on the day except for one of the appetizer, and some dishes can upgraded with an additional cost. The first half of the course included the chestnut cream soup, octopus carpaccio and the specialty imperial caviar in a lobster jelly, topped with a smooth cauliflower cream; all were very tasty. As for the mains, the flavors weren't quite to my liking; the fish dish was a bit too acidic and salty and the lamb dish was quite gamy. For dessert, I had the chestnut soufflé for an additional cost; it was perfectly baked with bits of chestnuts inside, paired with vanilla ice cream. Overall a good dining experience; the dishes were colorful and beautifully plated, and the staffs were friendly and polite.

My wife and I have been a big fan of Joel Robuchon for a long time , and tried same restaurants in Las Vegas and Taiwan , but this experience was quite disappointing. I believe they sat us in the corner where they can have someone translate for us. We had waited quite sometime between plates and one of the servers had a bad stench of body order which ruined our meal. Server was not tentative to what we needed and had to constantly ask for water.

Lunched there a few times before Covid, and it has been 5 years since I was able to fly into Japan. Glad that my first meal in Tokyo was at l’Atelier though I was a little disappointed they changed the menu and there were no longer the foie gras raviolis en entrée when I visited. Nonetheless lunch is often interesting in the different Ateliers as the Chef has some leeway then to be a little creative with the menu. Service was good though I had to ask for water to be refilled and had also to remind them to serve me my precious purée half way through my main course. And it didn’t even come in its little cocotte. The Saint Pierre with its exotic sauce was really delicious and it was a nice meal as always definitely worth the occasional visit when we are in Tokyo.

What a wonderful experience I had at the restaurant. Great warm and welcoming decor, fantastic service and excellent interpretation of the standard Joel Robuchon menu with a touch of Japanese flare!

The wagyu beef main course is what you want to get! It’s tender, filled with flavour and has that melt in your mouth effect. The banana dessert was to die for.. absolutely delicious and refreshing at the same time. Wine menu was extensive and should meet any discerning wine lover’s palate.

A must visit for those collecting Michelin Stars as this is a 2-star restaurant that lives up to the hype! Special mention goes to Damien who made the whole experience extra special!
