This place gets very busy and doesn’t appear to take reservations so be there early and get on the wait list. Chicken wings are famous and quite popular. We liked them. Also their beef tartar was pretty good in portion size although we found their sauce little too strong compared to other places. But it was tasty anyways. Overall we would like to come back and try other dishes. Parking however is little tricky around the block and also it is pay parking.

When an eatery is top rated by both locals and tourists alike, something surely went right. Phenom Penh more than lives up to its hype and more than justifies any wait time at the front for your seat at the table.

By our conclusion, what these guys do right is that their menu selection contain a good mix of both 1) comfort and 2) novelty.  For those who eat Cambodian/Vietnamese food often, the flavours here evoke a sense of nostalgia because the flavours are authentic and the chefs are faithful to their recipes. For the locals who revisit frequently, they could always depend on the consistency of the food they order here – meal in, meal out.

For the curious newbie to this cuisine, there are enough on the menu that will be unlike anything you have eaten before. So much so that a meal here makes a pretty decent impression of a trip to South East Asia. Their Marinated Butter Beef is a prime example of this. The combination of raw meat and the sharp tangy freshness of the vinegar dressing and cilantro both shocks and titillates the senses. How about the Pan Fried Lotus Stems? The crunchy yet slippery stalks of lotus does a good job as a palate cleanser between the other heavier dishes, yet the texture of this vegetable will often be a new discovery for diners from many cultural backgrounds.

The food was delicious. Highly recommend (You guessed it) the chicken wings. They are the real deal. Very heavy on the garlic. The butter beef is okay, definitely an interesting taste. The noodles have a great consistency with a nice warm and delicious broth. GET THE BLACK RICE WITH COCONUT MILK!!! Amazing as a non sweet dessert.

Would come again in a heartbeat.

Went for dinner with a small group (5 people in total), just before 5pm on a Sunday. As we couldn't reserve unless it was 6 or more we put our names down and walked around Chinatown while we waited. The wait was about 30 minutes, which was pretty decent.

We were put at a table for 4 with a 5th chair on the end, but it was not uncomfortable or too crowded. We have been here before but not for many years and before they got mentioned in Michelin ratings.

We ordered the
Butter Beef (#71 Marinated That Bo) - if you like Beef Carpaccio you will love this. Mouth watering tender thin slices of beef marinated in vinegar sauce. I must order

Deep friend chicken wings (#78 Canh Ga Lan Bot) - this is the staple of Phnom Penh and along with Butter Beef what we always order. Crispy with lots of flavour. Could easily get a second order.

Beef Luc Lac on fried rice (#87 Bo Luc Lac) - First time having this, the beef was very tender and matched well with the friend rice, egg and sauce.

Two Noodle Soup (#5, Hu ties Mi Nuoc Nam Vang) - A traditional dish, not overly flavourful, but bit of comfort food for some. Personally I would get two orders of Butter Beef instead! :)

Chicken Curry (#81 Cari Ga Nam Vang) (but they were sold out of baguette). They were sold out of baguettes so had to have it with rice. It’s a very mild spicy, so most people won’t even notice. A good dish, but again I would take Butter beef/chicken wings over it.

Dessert Durian with sticky Rice (#117) - was curious what this would be like. It more of a coconut sticky rice with a bit of Durian custard in it for a subtle Durian flavour. Not bad, but nothing special.

Service was very efficient, food arrived quickly and hot. Not overly noisy in there. They even hand wall outlets at most tables which was convenient to charge phones with. The total divided amongst 5 people for this and tip came out to about $30 each, which is a very good value especially for the quality of food. Definitely highly recommended, just plan your time to go carefully as waits can get long at peak times.

While the ambiance and presentation were impressive, the food itself didn’t quite live up to the hype. The flavors were good but nothing extraordinary—just your typical Vietnamese restaurant quality. It’s worth a visit for the experience, but manage your expectations if you’re coming for something truly unique.
