A nice escape from the bustling Bund area for a comfortable lunch. Quiet ambience with yesteryear’s nobleman house decor. Attentive service. Decent dim sum and vegetarian lunch set.  Both soups were good while the rest of the dishes were alright.

The traditional almost majestically decorated Yi Long Court Restaurant in the famous Penninsula Hotel in Shanghai is surely one of the best Cantonese places in the city. Classic, authentic and totally fresh prepared dishes which showcase the almost endless variety of one of the best high-kitchens in the world. From the BBQ starters, try the roasted pork belly, to the many fresh fish and crustaceans prepared the way you like them to tasty pork and beef delicacies. This place leaves no wishes unfulfilled. An excellent wine list, with a Spätburgunder from Huber in Malterdingen, Germany complements the feast perfectly. The staff is attentive and very helpful and friendly. The prices are what you would expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. What a highly pleasent meal! After dinner go up to the roof top bar and enjoy a breathtaking view of the bund.

I absolutely love this restaurant . The decor , the service , the music , the views and the Dishes ( let’s not talk about the tea warmer .. beautiful and could not find a similar one to purchase )  . This was my fourth visit and never disappoint . This time we had the excellent service and personal attention of Mr Ip . A very elegant gentleman with interesting conversation and Who understood i al vegetarian and prepared the food accordingly . The mango dessert is simply delicious . From the minute you walk in the Yi Long Court you feel transported to shanghai in the 1920… and the peninsula lobby had the most beautiful Christmas tree with Chanel ornaments ! 🎄❤️🎄 December 2023

Best ever tried in my life : « Steamed Barbecued Pork Bun » and the dessert « Chilled Mango with Sago and Fresh Pomelo ». Worth to go trying the dim sum. The music from the 1930 matches with the decoration. Excellent place to eat! Thanks to the cook !!!

Disappointingly average. I am no Cantonese food connoisseur but I was really looking forward to trying Yi Long Court for the Iberian pork char siu. We ordered the char siew (~ 200 rmb), eggplant dish, king crab fried rice and king prawns. After reading trip advisor reviews saying it was overrated, my expectations went from super high to high, but I chose to disregard the reviews thinking it was subjective. The reviews I had read were 100% accurate. Yes, the venue (Peninsula on the Bund) is spectacular and being there around Christmas time was extra special. On to the food - the king prawns was the top rated dish on Dianping (Chinese app equivalent to Yelp / Zomato). It was cooked perfectly but flavour was normal and lacking anything special - kind of tasted like 'sweet and sour pork' marinade. The Iberian char siu was chewy and hard to eat - Iberian pork is meant to be more tender than normal pork so this was surprising. The flavour was good though. The eggplant was below average - flavour was kind of bland. The king crab fried rice (~ 35 rmb) lacked any king crab flavour and the rice was on the dry side. All in all, if you have to come here the experience is nice because of the atmosphere but don't expect much from the food.
