Overall was a sensational experience with chef cooking in front of you with all the fresh and top ingredients.  Food ingredients were carefully selected and very well handled.   The skin with scale  of fish fillet has been deep fried to such a crispy piece was the most impressive one.   The seafood was definitely more spectacular to enjoy than the beef. The abalone came with a scrumptious source.  The beef was up to expectations but the thin slides were a bit overpowered by the garlic and spring onion.

The servers and cook were all very attentive.  A great experience overall.

Definitely worth going for lunch too.

Go earlier to enjoy a quiet and relaxing dining session.
I M Special Lunch set is great but I would say the other sets are more value for money.
Ingredients are fresh and service is good.

A lovely restaurant with great food and a nice atmosphere. It would be ideal if they could clear our plates after we're done eating instead of taking it in the middle of the talk.

I M Teppanyaki and Wine is the only teppanyaki restaurant in Hong Kong with a Michelin star.  Its new location at Tin Hau is spacious and well ventilated.  Reservations must be made in advance with a deposit of $300/person fully prepaid.  Servers are polite.  Corkage is not cheap at HK$500/bottle for 720ml sake or 750ml wine, but is still more reasonable than the markup on the wine list.  There are two set menus available for dinner, namely the 10-course “Omakase – Chef’s Recommendation” (HK$2,280/person) and the 8-course “I M Tasting Menu” (HK$1,800/person).  Highlight of the tasting menu is the flavorful and bouncy Hokkaido Abalone with Liver Sauce.  While the essence of teppanyaki is allowing guests to enjoy the chef’s culinary skills and the dishes he freshly cooks on the hot grill, half of the meal is prepared somewhere else.  It is quite shocking to witness the chef’s contribution to the “Amadai Fish with Sea Urchin Cream Sauce” to be simply plating.  Food is mostly lukewarm.  Expectation is naturally higher for that price level.  Honestly, with food being mostly lukewarm, not sure how the so-called teppanyaki specialist is able to maintain its Michelin star for 8 years.

No fancy techniques or performance, just great quality ingredients which were cooked to perfection. We went there for my birthday celebration and we thoroughly enjoyed every dish. The menu was well thought through with a nice balance of flavours. Only thing is that the fried rice was a bit too dry and came with a tad too much sergestid shrimps which made the texture too crunchy. I would personally prefer the rice to be a little bit more moist. Or better if it comes with a little bit of char siu.
