The hospitality of this place is incredible. The warmth of the people is amazing and remarkable. Tadao Ando really went all out in designing this place that every single detail is thought about from the material of the door handle to the thoughtfulness of how a guest moves around.

We have stayed in some of the world’s best hotels, resorts and villas but this tops our list as the best hospitality experience.

The food, the architecture and the location is all outstanding but the hospitality takes the cake.

The team goes beyond and above to make you feel the soul of their service and hospitality and culture.

We will be definitely back.

The biggest asset of shinmonzen are the people who run it. Well trained staff who actually care about their guests. We stayed in December as a family of 5 and have no complaints. Congrats and thank you to the GM and everyone else involved- the reception staff , chefs, servers who looked after us for ensuring a perfect stay.

A beautiful design balance between old Kyoto and new. The staff here are simply incredible; a true lesson in hotel service. High tech such as WhatsApp concierge, very helpful and highly utilised on our trip. Thoughtfulness in ways even I didn’t expect in relation to the needs of our 18 month old son. A gem in the crown is Jean-Georges menu, it would criminal to miss out on this experience. We felt very at home, so much so I unexpectedly shed tears when we left. We shall return soon to our new home in Kyoto, the beautiful Shinmonzen 🙏🏽

Everything about this place is special.  The location is in the heart of magical Gion right on the river, the rooms are gorgeous and the service is incredible. On top of that the attached restaurant is a Michelin star restaurant, so the food is incredible.  We can't wait to go back.

Upon our arrival, it was evident from the very beginning that we had found a place where we felt a strong sense of belonging and comfort. Never could I have imagined experiencing such feelings in a country with a culture distinct from our own. The level of service provided was truly exceptional, with attention to detail and meticulous care. The culinary offerings surpassed our expectations, leaving us with exceptional dining experiences. The comfortable beds and soft sheets made a remarkable difference in our overall comfort.

The staff went above and beyond to ensure that our needs were met, assisting us with booking tours and restaurant reservations to ensure our utmost convenience and satisfaction. The thoughtful gifts provided to us to take home were an incredibly kind gesture that we deeply appreciated.

We will forever cherish the holiday memories we created at the Shinmonzen.
