Tourists were lining up for this joint before it even opened - probably because of the Michelin Guide.

I found the soba to be good, not amazing, but good. I expected a bit more because this establishment was actually founded (and continues to bill itself) as a soba house.

The Oyakodon (pictured) was extremely delicious - the best I’ve ever had. So that’s what I recommend you order.

Unfortunately for us, we were serviced by a grumpy old male waiter who was less than polite.

He berated my wife and our 3-year-old when they were putting their shoes back on after the meal and our 3yo happened to graze the edge of the raised floor with a shoe. He then yelled at my wife again after she moved our kid to the staircase on the opposite side of the walkway, away from the raised floor.  A simple and calm “please be careful” would have sufficed. The berating and hissy fits were unnecessary and simply bizarre when directed towards a 3yo.

We’d love to visit this restaurant again once some of their staff undergo some emotional regulation training.

Very delicious. They have rice and dipping noodles and ramen. I got rice with egg. My friends got cold so a dipping noodles. Tea came with the meal for free. Remove your shoes to sit. Seating was a little tight on a raised floor with a short table. I sat cross legged and it was OK. Beautiful atmosphere in the restaurant.

Overpriced and overrated! Defenetly not worthed the Michelin rate
I paid 1400 yen for this soup with soba, i felt it was too salty and lacked flavour.
Overthink again when you consider visit it.

I found Gion Gonbei after a quick Google search in the best yakisoba restaurants in Gion area... And I was not disappointed!! I had a portion of Noppe Soba and they were absolutely delicious! Hands down, one of the best things I ate in Kyoto, the taste was so rich and you could feel the freshness of each ingredient. Amazing, I'll surely come back here when I visit Kyoto again! Kudos to the English menu and the polite staff, and the atmosphere is very cozy~ Totally recommended!!

Seemed like an authentic spot and the food was good too. The menu is available not only in English, but also in French and German! They only accept cash, so prepare accordingly.
