3 Michelin stars - absolutely agree with this assessment. Located in a pretty Japanese style villa in suburban Osaka next to the rail line - it is only upon walking through the gates & up the flight of stone steps that you know you are in for something special. As you reach the top, the sliding front doors open magically and the hostess in a beautiful kimono greets you & bids you welcome.
We were ushered up the stairs to a private tatami room on the 2nd level & despite the restaurant being full, it felt very quiet. The omakase meal was explained & drinks order taken & we were given some time to cool down & appreciate our surroundings & views. Once the meal started - it was perfection. Course after course of the most sublime morsels of food arrived each beautifully presented & all tasted heavenly. The pace was perfect & the intervals between courses were almost intuitive as dishes could not have arrived & cleared at a better sequence. The entire meal took just over 2 hours & it was pure foodie heaven. Reservations are essential & it’s a pricey meal but most definitely worth it. Truly worthy of its 3 Michelin stars.

It was Autumn and the menu has a theme of Chrysanthemum. Kashiwaya possesses all aspects of a top tier Kaiseki restaurants: culinary techniques, minimal but upscale atmosphere, impeccable service, great attention to culture and tradition. Their "Kae" with tilefish, chestnut, gingko and kiku is perfect in terms of flavors and textures combination as well as presentation. Highly recommended.

Very romantic lunch at this purely Japanese restaurant. It lives up to its 3 Michelin stars!!
The staff were wonderful. We had lunch in a small Japanese private room with tatami floor. We walked through the garden to enter our private room through a small door.
The experience was very romantic and serene.
The food was incredible. It celebrated spring and the ingredients in season (cherry blossoms, cherry shrimps, kinome…). Big highlight on fresh seafood and veggies.
The food was higher level, but the plates/bowls and cutlery was fabulous as well.

It was such a pleasure to have dined here. The ingredients and courses are well thought out and service was perfect. The poem/narrative piece was a nice touch. Some of the courses were less flavourful, but that may have been intentional so that the natural flavours of the ingredients can be appreciated. Overall, very memorable experience and deserving of the Michelin stars! ***
