Building itself very easy to navigate, with Japanese and English directions. Ticket office and information also bilingual.
If you don’t want to see the exhibition, the building and outside courtyard with sculptures is worth a visit.
Good program of contemporary art exhibitions as well as MOT collection.
Highly advised to book your tickets online for popular events- I just walked into and waited 30min to purchase the ticket, and then nearly an hour to enter the exhibition.

visited this museum for the limited-time exhibition of Ryuichi Sakamoto, which was absolutely mesmerizing. This was also my first visit to the museum, and I was equally impressed by the museum itself. The architecture is beautifully designed, reflecting and complementing the modern art theme perfectly.

There are a couple of cafes and restaurants on-site, and while I didn’t have the chance to dine there, they looked artistic and inviting, adding to the overall ambiance of the museum.

The museum shop was fascinating to browse through, offering a variety of unique items. While I didn’t make any purchases—finding them a bit pricey—I can see how they would hold great artistic value for collectors or enthusiasts. Additionally, there’s a small, tranquil library open to all visitors. It’s a serene space filled with art and culture magazines and books, perfect for anyone looking to take a quiet moment during their visit.

The museum hosted two exhibitions during my visit, along with a collection of permanent exhibits. They offer a discounted ticket that grants access to both the special and permanent exhibitions, which I found to be an excellent deal.

Overall, I highly recommend this museum to anyone with an interest in modern art. Whether you’re there for a specific exhibition or exploring the permanent collection, the all-inclusive pass is worth it and won’t disappoint. This museum is a must-visit for art lovers!

Loved the time spent here- 2-3 hours easily. Great large collection of contemporary art on display- video, painting, sculpture etc. Wonderful building too to enjoy. Refundable 100y Lockers so you don't have to carry stuff around.
Enjoyed a sandwich in the cafe upstairs as the restaurant was full.
Got a seniors discount so happy with the value as quite a lot to see.

Went for the Sakamoto Ryuichi multimedia exhibit. The exhibit was decent, if not spectacular. The museum itself is fairly unique in its architecture and is operated well by friendly staff. However I think some of the spaces are showing their age, whether it's being too small/narrow for modern day crowds, or restrooms and other facilities needing an update.

Buy tickets online before arriving as there was a long line of at least 30 minutes when I arrived in the afternoon for in-person purchase. If you plan to see both the museum and the Ryuichi Sakamoto exhibition then you must come early in the morning. The line for both were crazy long, had to wait 50 min to get into Sakamoto. Luckily if you bought and didn’t use the museum ticket you can come back another day to check it out.
