An amazing restaurant for soba noodles, other noodles and soups, tempura, and a few other Japanese specialties. There are many locals and usually a line outside as well. They make delicious food. We especially enjoyed the duck soup with udon noodles.

We got the horse sashimi and the recommended tempura soba. I can see why this is a Michelin star place as the food taste heavenly. The soba is really soft and when you dib the tempura into the broth you get a one of kind taste which is only unique to this place I’d say. The horse sashimi was also good and tasted similar to beef so I’d definitely recommend trying it.

Light thin soba noodles that were super refreshing, had cold zaru soba and you can see the machine in the front of the store making the soba. Service was also great. Would come again whenever I get the chance.

Came here for lunch on a hot summer day and waited for 10 min before opening (was 3rd on wait list) and seated right away. The soba took a little bit to prepare but it was well worth it. The texture and dipping sauce were good, as was the tempura that we ordered that went with it. Could tell the effort that went into preparing each piece. A little pricey but worth trying at least once.

Took a foreigner friend to this soba restaurant for dinner. We ordered a tempura platter, one soba each and a few side dishes. Everything was so fresh and tasty. The tempura batter was crisp and thin. Their tempura is served with salt which is suits well with my liking. The eel tempura and prawn tempura were  the best. We got to try few types of their soba noodles and the textures were great. It was a lovely experience.

On my first trip to Tokyo I requested noodles (unsurprising to anyone who eats with me regularly) and had the distinct pleasure of a lunch full of them at Kyorakutei. In numerous subsequent trips, I have never found better soba anywhere. I tried two things for the first time in this tiny noodle shop (and suggest you do the same): 1. Yuba Tofu skin, or bean curd skin, didn't initially sound particularly crave-able to me but once this silky smooth dish arrived in front of me, I immediately regretted ever thinking a bad thought about the stuff. I suggest yuba topped soba as an entry point here. I now ask for yuba everywhere thanks to my first taste at Kyorakutei. 2. Tempura with salt Typically, I'm used to dipping tempura into sauce. The tempura at Kyorakutei is fried right in front of you and the vegetables appear fresh picked. High quality tempura is best eaten unadulterated and thus they serve it here with a tiny dish of salt as opposed to sauce. And wow, what a difference! The vegetables seem to sing with just a few grains of salt. And no more soggy tempura! Sitting at the counter is definitely the way to go so you can get in on the action. Just behind you, you'll see the soba making process underway. There are no menus in English so take a Japanese speaker. Also, it's cash only and while lunch here is good value it's not cheap. For top quality, handmade soba in Tokyo, this is the place!

Another soba place that Michelin guided us to and it was another amazing experience. I was trying to compare Kyourakutei with the soba I had in Hanamono - another soba place that we went to in Kyoto and I felt while Hanamono's soba had a more pronounced buckwheat flavor, the noodles here had better texture and less sticky . I had the cold soba with tofu skin. They poured a little bit of milk over the tofu and it all tasted seriously hearty, healthy and delicious. The missus had the one with the tempura. The batter was so light and probably some of the best tempura I had during our stay in Japan. If we had a place like this in NY, I would go every week. Our meal cost the two of us less than ¥3,000. It's pretty easy to find this place with Google Maps - just need to know what the storefront looks like. They also had English menus when we went there so fear not!

Michelin Star soba that was so good we came here twice in a city of 13 million people and hundreds of Michelin starred restaurants. My husband and I don't speak Japanese so we were a little nervous about dining here, but no worries, everything was self explanatory and they have an English menu. When you arrive there will likely be a queue so just put your name on the list and then find a spot directly behind the last person who showed up. Everyone is very orderly and waits their turn and it's so refreshing compared to the states where it's pure chaos and jumbles of grumpy pushy shovey hangry people. There is no fear that someone will steal your spot in line. Once you're in, have control not to order everything because you will want to. We ordered the glass shrimp, perfectly fried in tempura better. And the fresh tofu. Literally the best tofu I've ever eaten. No bells or whistles or sauces or spices. Just pure silky tofu that melts in your mouth. Good thing my husband doesn't like tofu because I wouldn't have wanted to share. And the cold dipping soba noodles that they are known for. Wow. Highly recommend this place and can't speak highly enough about it.

Nothing beats handmade soba. The texture, consistency, and flavor of the soba at Kyorakutei is amazing. I had the hot yuba (hot soba in broth of tofu skin), which was smooth, creamy, and light. I loved that the portion size is just the perfect amount to make you full without being stuffed. I also had a plate of seasonal tempura and was extremely impressed. The tempura is exceptionally light and crispy. You can tell that they use very clean oil to fry the tempura, because the freshness of the vegetables and seafood can still be tasted even through the frying. What's more is that the tempura is meant to be lightly salted, not dipped in sauce, which highlights instead of masks the tempura.

I had the yubu soba (tofu skin) as recommended by some reviewers here. The yubu was creamy and really smooth. They added little bit of wasabi on top of the yubu. The handmade soba was excellent. I don't normally like soba but this place has converted me!

A one-year Michelin rated restaurant nestled and hidden among residences and along a narrow street. You wouldn't know it's there unless you knew of it. We were standing right in front of it's doors, following GPS guidance, and didn't know it. It's a very unassuming and humble location. According to reviews, this restaurant is known for its Soba. Before getting to the Soba, I ordered their beef stew sinew as the guests next to us had some. The aroma from the bowl was wonderful and lured my appetite. OMG! The meat was tender and the broth which was probably simmering with all the parts of the beef and fatty parts all day made for a delectable taste. I could have eaten this alone and be satisfied. The main dish was a cold Soba with seasonal tempura consisting of sweet fish, zucchini, green pepper, and squid. The sweet fish was amazing. It was not covered or soaked in batter so the flavor of the sweet fish could be tasted. The cooks were all men and the wait staff were all women. All were very attentive and accommodating. They spoke some English and helped with our orders. Overall, I was not too impressed with the Soba but the beef stew sinew and sweet fish were to die for. The guests seated next to us only ordered tapas-like items and each items looked very appealing. I would lean towards this more so than the Soba.

One of the best soba places in Tokyo. At Kyorakutei, they serve very fine buckwheat soba made right in the shop. They make their soba just by the shop front near the counter. I love sitting by the counter, watching all the chefs at work. I've only ever been here for lunch so I'm mainly here for the lunch sets. I don't know where to begin because everything is so good. Here are a few of my favourites. First try the yuba soba. Yuba are tofu skins. Your cold soba will come fresh layers of delicate tofu skins which is refreshing and delicious. It's a great dish to have during the summer to cool you down. If you want something different, try their tomato soba. This is a cold soba topped with slightly spicy cold tomato sauce with basil. A bit of a East meets West dish which would is also popular in the Summer. In winter, my all time favourite is the hot soba with beaten egg on top. I know it sounds simple but trust me, it is sooooooo tasty. The soup is delicious and on top of the bowl of soba is a thick layers of beaten egg that is about over an inch thick! It warms you up from the soul. To finish, make sure you have some of the boil soba water with your soy sauce. This place is not give a Michelin star for nothing. Definitely go check it out!

I don't usually like soba, but this place changed my mind. This is my favorite soba place in Japan. The cold soba with tempura is amazing!! The noodles were slightly chewy, the tempura was light and airy, and the sauce was very balanced. I also enjoyed their special seasoning.
