Claypot Rice is deeply rooted into our culture and there will forever be a war to determine who makes the best pot of Claypot Rice. From Malaysia 🇲🇾 Chee Chong Kai to Hong Kong 🇭🇰 Temple Street we food lovers 💕 will always have our say.

However….. New Lucky Claypot Rice has years of Michelin 🌸🌸🌸accords (see my pic) to show for their effort and culinary skills 👩‍🍳🧑‍🍳. Without comparing other countries and just within Singapore, I took the bullet 🔫 and went for it 💪. I have known about this place for a long time now but due to where I work and the long queues that they are renowned to have, I have always put visiting them off. 🙇

System : Order your set for 2️⃣pax, 3️⃣pax or 4️⃣pax, then choose the type of claypot flavour 🍲 that you want, pay 🧾 and you will be given a number 🔢. Take a seat 🪑and they will serve you once the cooking 🧑‍🍳🥘is done. Minimum expected wait time is 30mins ⏲️, if not it is typically between 35 to 45 mins ⏰ at the peak. You hardly “see” 👀 a queue because everyone will take their numbers and walk off, waiting to be served. (Tricky but smart system) It is located inside a Holland Drive 🏘️Hawker Center and at night, 90% of the hawkers are closed. Lots of seating space.

Service : Polite gentleman 💁‍♂️ took my order, repeated the order again and then pointed to the notice 📝 that advised me the wait time needed. Almost like the last affirmation 🤞before making payment 💵.

Food : To start with, if you are a claypot 🍲 fan, you will understand that even if it is not crowded, it will take 30 mins ⏲️. Why? Because the correct process is to soak the long grain rice 🍚 for almost an hour followed by cooking 🔥it slowly. It’s a process that cannot be rushed and can only be done when the order is placed. Therefore, any stall that serves you instant Claypot Rice is just pulling a long con on you

Part 1 - New Lucky Claypot Rice has this ability to cook the rice to a point whereby you add on the oil and dark sauce, and it will coat the rice almost bit by bit but it will not soak fully into the rice itself. It gives every grain a unique surface texture. How do they do it? 🤷‍♂️ Then the next bit about Claypot Rice, the burn bits at the base. How many times have we eaten Claypot Rice whereby the entire base has burned chunks and when you try to scrub it off, it is just this huge, blackened, burned chunk of rice. (Pretty sure its not rice anymore at this point LOL 🤣) But when you stir New Lucky Claypot Rice, the burns bits (which is the best part) comes off effortlessly, little crispy, char, bits…..and then you mix it together with the rice that is infused with the added oil and dark sauce. OMG, it was truly to die for the moment when the fragrance hits your senses!!! 😍

Part 2 – The Chicken 🐓 and Chinese charcuterie 🐷 (cured pork belly and Chinese sausage) so tender!! Take them off the pot, place it on a plate, stir 🥄 the oil, dark sauce, burn crispy bits, then return it back into the pot and stir again and Serve it hot! The chicken just falls off the bone and is so tasty! 😋

If you have me say it, the Michelin Stars 🌟🌟🌟are well deserved! Given the cooked rice texture and the ability to cook the pot of rice till it is cooked but not burn the base completely. Plus, the savoury meat inside it gives it such a Wok Hai Blast! Yes, it is indeed different from the rest. They close at 7.30pm sharp, come early!

A popular claypot rice in this area. You can call in advance to place your order and close at 730pm for dinner. Claypot was great and priced $15 for a 2-person portion. The water cress soup ($6) was a little bland though.

Popular claypot rice in the area. Not sure if standard has changed but there was not so much burnt rice bits, but many rice turned to charcoal instead. Soup is nice and a must to complement the claypot rice which is very dry

Had claypot chicken rice ($15), oyster sauce veg ($5) & watercress pork ribs soup ($6) for dinner, was quite ok. Claypot rice was slightly on the bland side, chicken could be more tender. We called 30mins in advance to shorten the waiting time.

Claypot rice was very good!! Had to wait about an hour for it to get cooked upon ordering so expect to wait a while for food. But definitely worth it.
