In the afternoon, we took train to Hongdae area after exploring Dongdaemun which has changed so much compared to 17 years ago when I visited for the first time. The fashion capital of Seoul had so much to offer but I wasn't there to buy clothes.

Hongdae on the other hand is known for its urban arts and indie music culture, local shops, clubs, cafés and entertainment. The area is located in Mapo District in the western end of Seoul. True enough, a lot of hip youngsters and students were seen hanging out in this area known for cafes, clubs, eateries etc.

Kakao (yes, the famous Kakao Talk app from Korea) is a big thing here and their flagship store is located here. Apart from buying merchandise, they also have a bug cafe on the 3rd floor.

The cafe was packed when I arrived as it was holiday season - many beautifully created desserts plus a cup of coffee that would satisfy any sweet cravings. Price on the high side but as any other cafe in Korea.. not cheap!

Upon visiting the establishment after noticing its engaging social media presence, we arrived around 4 pm on Monday. The Korean traditional interior design, with its minimalistic and zen-like ambiance, made a positive first impression. However, we did notice that the cleanliness could be improved, as some tables appeared to need wiping and dirty dishes were left unattended. While the coffee met our expectations, we found the dalgona overly hard and did not melt effectively into the coffee, which was disappointing. Additionally, the limited availability of pastries and desserts led us to try the squid ink salt bun with matcha cream. Still, we found that the taste of ocean-like overshadowed the matcha flavor due to the rock salt on the squid ink bun. While we appreciated the creativity, the overall experience did not live up to the expectations we had formed based on the social media hype surrounding the establishment.
