We always try a fine-dining meal on our annual trip to Taipei, and this time, we chose komboi after a friend kept raving about it. And what a great choice it was! The food was superb. The kids had the lunch 3-course with the optional cheese fondue, and we had the 7-course. The kids already stated that the appetisers were so amazing and at the top of their list, and that top dish kept being toppled as they had more dishes. It was that good (even for kids—ages 9 and 13 girls).

Thank you to all the waitstaff, who were knowledgeable and friendly. Special thanks to Maggie, who could tell we were Aussies 😂 and was super friendly.

Be careful!!!
It’s a fine dining restaurant but the food is far far far away from “Fine”!!!

They don’t really know how to cook these European courses, especially meat!
Those meat is super rough, hard, dry and full of stable fiber …. Super terrible and so hard to chew & swallow

Those appetizers and sweet is full of wet cookie or dough, which should have been crispy or crunchy

The only eatable and tasty in this place is the ice cream 🍦
Wow that’s so fantastic and lucky we can still get something to eat properly here.

Staffs are nice.
However,  the worst service is when you have shared this terrible experience to those staffs, they still think it’s their specialty to present these terrible  food…

No kidding！This restaurant definitely worth 1~2 Michelin Stars. I was in JURA whiskey dinner here, but shocked by their exceptional cuisines and delicate service. Ask them about the ingredients, sauces, and ideas behind the dish. Then you will be amazed and appreciate their devotion.
The spirit is there, come and ask and feel it.

Please give komboi the stars that they deserve because this has been one of the most satisfying fine dining meals I have ever had. Komboi may not have flashy upscale decor and exotic/unique ingredients, in fact, the restaurant appears to look like a homey coffee shop. However, the dishes and service were top notch and the experience gave me so much joy and contentment. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who just wants to enjoy great food with down-to-earth ambiance.

The thing with michelin-level restaurants is that sometimes artistic vision is unique and ambitious, but the taste of the food does not live up to the concept. The service can often be professional but seemingly cold or rehearsed as well. At komboi, this was absolutely not the case. My fine dining reviews usually list out each dish and comment on them separately, but today, I do not feel the need to do so because every single dish was fabulous. Most importantly, every single dish was DELICIOUS. I have finally found a tasting menu that does not sacrifice flavors for flashy concept or plating. Virtually every single bite in this meal was perfectly balanced, seasoned, and impactful; each making me yearn for more.

For the meal, I had the full autumn normandie menu that took me on a cohesive journey of eclectic french inspirations and produce, including seafood, shellfish, meats, cheeses, and fruits. The fusion of Asian and French elements and unique flavor combinations were absolutely spot on; it did not feel forced or awkward like what I would experience in other fine dining establishments. They were able to get me hooked and excited for the experience right from the first bite, with a perfectly balanced mouthful of fresh crab, avocado, and pomelo notes on top of a crispy yet melt-in-your-mouth toast. Every single dish following that were individually memorable, with only slight hiccups such as the odd texture of one fish dish. The motif of cheeses throughout the meal was beautiful and the camembert ice cream at the end was to die for. Chef David is a master at harmonizing and balancing each individual flavor on the plate, every element essential and nothing in excess or lacking.

All in all, komboi has striked a perfect balance between creativity and familiarity, classiness and rusticity, and above all, concept and flavor. I want to end by also commending the sommelier who was so knowledgeable about all the wines and dishes and spoke to us like we've been friends. His passion for food and wine was infectious, and the rest of the waiters were great as well. I think I have finally found a fine dining restaurant worth splurging on time and time again. Can't wait to go back!
