A Disappointing End to Our Trip – Poor Service at Grand Hyatt Istanbul

They say, "The last phase of your trip determines whether your vacation was truly great or not." Unfortunately, our experience at Grand Hyatt Istanbul left a sour taste.

We were on a 10-day road trip across Turkey and decided to treat ourselves to a luxurious stay for the final two days. Expecting top-notch hospitality, we booked and fully paid for our stay at Grand Hyatt Istanbul—only to be met with confusion and indifference upon arrival.

The Check-in Hassle

At reception, when we provided our booking details, the staff claimed, "We have your reservation, but the agency you booked through hasn’t paid us." Instead of assisting us, they simply told us to contact the agency ourselves. Given the time difference and the fact that I was using an eSIM, making an immediate call wasn’t possible.

To resolve the issue, I offered to book a new room immediately but requested an official email stating that payment hadn’t been received for the previous booking—so I could escalate the matter with the agency later. Shockingly, they refused. I asked how I was supposed to pursue the issue without any proof, but they dismissively rejected my request.

About 10 minutes later, the manager returned and admitted that the agency had, in fact, already paid. They had simply "missed it." No apology. No courtesy. Just a room key handed over as if nothing had happened.

Room & Service Issues

Once in our room, things didn’t improve. There were no water bottles, and despite calling room service four times, we finally received them after a long wait. The bathroom flush wasn’t working properly either. After an exhausting road trip, we regretted choosing this hotel.

Final Thoughts

Having stayed at multiple Hyatt properties worldwide, this was by far my worst experience with their service. Hospitality is about customer care, but at Grand Hyatt Istanbul, that was clearly lacking. If you’re considering a stay in this area, I’d highly recommend alternatives like The Ritz-Carlton or InterContinental—they offer much better service and professionalism.

Would I stay here again? Absolutely not.

I had a wonderful stay at the Grand Hyatt Istanbul. The customer service at the reception was outstanding—friendly, professional, and very accommodating. The rooms were clean, spacious, and well-maintained, offering a comfortable and relaxing environment. The hotel’s location is also excellent, making it easy to explore the city.

The only downside was the restaurant. While the food was good, I found it to be overpriced for what was offered.

Overall, it’s a great hotel with top-notch service, but the restaurant could be more reasonably priced. Would still stay here again!

This is probably my favorite hotel in Istanbul. They always treat me so friendly and take care of me. And now also my wife. The first two times or three times I stayed here we weren't married. We even went here on my wedding night to celebrate and they took care of us so wonderfully. Then we've probably been back twice since then and this last time was no different. We had to visit a nearby hospital so rather than traveling from the part of Turkey we live in, we decided to just have a staycation and leave from the hotel. We had to leave very early in the morning in the hotel. Was very good at making sure we had a taxi ready when she had to leave and then shortly after when I had to leave to meet her... They even let me take food from the breakfast for her. I can't say enough good things about everybody in this hotel from the front desk staff to the room service staff to the staff in the lounge and The staff in the breakfast buffet and this time a special shout out to the omelette cook. She cooked me too. Amazing omelets so good. I had to have a second... Even the waffle girl made fresh waffles and brought them direct to my table.... The only thing that I can possibly say negative...
I get a gift as a globalist and they could maybe do a little better in the thought process of the gift giving... They basically gave me a lesser portion than what I can take from the lounge....
Just a fruit bowl and a few sodas again. They sit in the lounge all day. I take more of a better selection on my own... Perhaps more of a baklava or something more that says Turkish... Maybe a baklava Turkish delight dish, but that's just me being super extra picky... That's something for you guys to think about
That being said, I will be back again and again and again ❤️

Great location for exploring Istanbul. Located at 5 minutes walk from Taksim square. Well connected via public transport with Metro, bus, tram and port nearby. Has a good breakfast spread. Friendly staff.

The smoke smell in the lobby & rooms made me sick ,even though the staff offered me a swap it's the same situation.
Positive:
Helpful staff & restaurant is good .
But I would say they need to work on the smoke issue .
