Taking the train here was definitely the best part. Very pretty views. And it was treating going through the ice cave, not as large as I expected it to be, yet still impressive. On the outside you can see people learning ice climbing which was very interesting to see.

Impressive views but not much information given. Timetables for the trains, that run twice an hour at the stations. The whole track is 5km long and takes the train 20minutes. Unfortunately the ice tunnel was closed on our visit, which we found out standing in front of it. 39€ adult round trip. There's one Bistro style Restaurant and a gift shop at the upper station also a hotel with restaurant close by.

It was 39 euros to go on the train and see the glacier.
Very interesting with the historical points through the years at the top.
When u get off the train there is a cable car to get nearer the glacier.
Also a cafe and toilets, and walks around the top.
Plenty of space on the train

This is a must-visit but I would only recommend going when the weather is good if possible to fully enjoy the views. We spent a total of 2 hours on this attraction from start to finish, including leisurely taking pictures and taking the gondola down to the ice cave (closed as of September 2024). Sit on the left side when ascending or on the right side when descending.

We went on a Monday at the end of September and it wasn’t that crowded (our train was full though). We bought our tickets at the machine and got on the very next train.

Reading about what’s been happening to the glacier made me really sad. Climate change is real and we all play a part in it… let’s try to do better so these beautiful places can stay beautiful for a longer time.

Unique experience! The red train drives you to the top of the mountain,offering you amazing views of the city of Chamonix while climbing the cliff. Then you take the lift to the mer de glace which is absolutely a huge experience you should not miss! Definitely recommended for everyone!
