A very cozy place. Been there with some colleagues and felt immediately relaxed.
The style of the restaurant is both classic and modern, that add points to the confortable atmosfera of this location.
Menu have a wide range of dishes: from German's classic (duck, ox and other meat pieces), to interesting vegetarian proposals, to sushi, wok and other oriental dishes.
Just watch out for desserts: Death by chocolate could really be the cause of your demise.

Marburger Esszimmer, the “Jewel on the Lahn”:

Marburger Esszimmer (Dining Room) is one of Marburg’s premiere restaurants. No wonder, the executive chef, Bernd Siener, has an impressive culinary arts biography and the restaurant is part of the Vila Vita Hotels gastronomical division. Both have very high standards. I’ve dined there many times and have always been very pleased and look forward to returning.

Location: The restaurant is located in a beautifully restored area of the northern central part of Marburg, on a lovely pedestrian way along the Lahn River. It is within walking distance of the main railway station, as well as to the historic city centre/old town. Parking is readily available, hotels are close by. The restaurant welcomes you to its dining room, as well as to its alfresco dining terrace.

Ambience and Service: The atmosphere is informal, yet dignified. One is greeted as soon as possible upon arrival by a member of the staff who will offer to take your coat. The staff is multi-lingual. The staff is friendly and strives for excellence in serving its customers. The layout of the restaurant makes smart use of space. There are no “bad seats/tables” and a small vestibule prevents an unwanted draught from sneaking into the room when the front door opens. Wardrobe and lavatory doors are not visible from the dining room tables, and that's how it should be. The chefs preparing your meal in the kitchen are visible to the diner via indoor glass panels. The interior design of the dining room is complemented by its smart contemporary decor and lighting. It expresses serenity and invites one to relax and enjoy. The colours are tranquil. A subtle Asian influence is recognisable. The furniture is comfortable. The alfresco dining terrace faces the river and provides creature comforts. The exterior design is also exceptional.

Food and Drink: The menu is well thought out. It has international flair and covers a wide spectrum of culinary delights. It is diverse, creative, avant-garde, and changes seasonally. "East meets West" leaves its mark and some of the food is locally grown. Some main dishes allow you to choose your own side dishes. The kitchen is open to special requests. There’s something for everyone, especially for diners with discriminating palates. The portions commensurate with the dish, I find them to be appropriate if not sometimes on the generous side. The prices are very fair. The wine list is broad and offers excellent selections from Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, South Africa, and Chile. The spirits list is a gem.

Whether one wishes to enjoy a casual meal, a fine dining experience, a relaxing business lunch or dinner, or a romantic evening, I highly recommend Marburger Esszimmer as a treat to yourself, your family, and others. Bon appétit!
