Es gab reichlich Weißwein zum Essen. Als Rotweinliebhaber habe ich einen Rotwein vermisst. Aber nicht schlimm.
Die Deko, weiße Serviette mit schwarzer Schleife hat an Trauerfeier erinnert.
Das Ambiente war ein wenig altbacken.
Der Tisch war zu klein.
Bei dem Preis/Leistungs Verhältnis muss ich sagen, dass ich beim Stemberg besser dran bin.

There was plenty of white wine with the meal. As a red wine lover, I missed a red wine. But not bad.
The decoration, white napkin with black bow, was reminiscent of a funeral service.

Jeder Gang war eine Überraschung und unfassbar lecker. Wir bedanken uns vielmals für den perfekten Service, dass leckere Essen und den zauberhaften Abend.

Essen war sehr gut. Leider für uns das erste und letzte mal, 160€ für 2 Personen ohne Wein finde ich bei diesem Service sehr sehr sportlich.

Wer das Restaurant „1831“ im Schloss Hugenpoet in Essen kennenlernen möchte, dem empfiehlt sich ein Besuch am Mittwoch oder Donnerstag. An diesen Tagen wird das „get to know 1831“ -Menü angeboten. Das 3-Gang-Menü zum Ausprobieren des Restaurant-Mottos „Fine Dining neu gedacht, ungezwungen und ungewöhnlich“ ist ein Auszug aus dem 6-Gang-Gourmetmenü mit Getränkebegleitung inklusive Aperitif, Weinbegleitung, Kaffee, Digestiv und dem original Kettwiger Tafelwasser. Aber was macht nun dieses Versprechen aus.

Der „Auftakt“ besteht aus drei kleinen Köstlichkeiten, hochwertig serviert und gibt eines ersten Eindruck der Küche. Man ahnt schon, wohin die Reise geht. Leichtigkeit ist ein zentraler Aspekt. Bevor es richtig weitergeht, wird ein frisch gebackenes Brot mit aufgeschäumter Currybutter serviert.

Das Menü startet mit „Tomate / Wassermelone“. Die beiden Komponenten werden unterstützt durch ein Parmesan-Crumble, das einerseits einen gewissen Biss, anderseits aber einen intensiven Gegenpol zu Tomate und Wassermelone bildet. Hinzu kommt die Wassermelone als Sorbet über den kleinen Salat, abgerundet durch Belper Knolle, dem sehr fein geriebenen Käse. Eine weitere besondere Note gibt dem Gericht der Liebstöckel.

Weiter geht es mit „Stubenküken und Bärlauch“. Wer die Hauptbestandteile pur genießt, ist vielleicht von der geringen Würzung überrascht. Aber dann gibt es eine Geschmacksexplosion. In Kombination mit dem „Süßholzlack“ schwelgt man in höheren Sphären und möchte gar nicht mehr aufhören, dieses Gericht langsam im Mund zergehen zu lassen. Einfach göttlich. Wenn man die Gourmetküche nach den Soßen bewertet, hat die junge Küchencrew an diesem Punkt ihr Meisterwerk abgeliefert.

Zum Abschluss wird ein dreifacher Gruß von der Passionsfrucht serviert. Eine fruchtige Freude, angeboten als Schaum, Drink und in geeister Form. Köstlich.

Den endgültigen Abschluss bilden kleine Naschereien. Geschmacklich sehr unterschiedlich von herzhaft (mit Parmesan) bis süß (Cheesecake-Kugel mit weißer Schokolade). Wiederum interessant kombiniert.

Die Sommelier liefert zu jedem Gang den richtigen Wein, wobei interessanterweise zum Dessert ein Riesling Sekt von der Nahe angeboten wird. Aber auch hier hat man verstanden, dass ein klassischer Dessertwein dem Dessert nicht gut tun würde. Der Sekt bringt perligen Schwung und passt in seiner nicht zu trockenen Variante perfekt.

Der Service war extrem aufmerksam, erklärte die Gerichte ausführlich und war gleichzeitig unaufdringlich unterhaltsam.

Fazit: Ein tolles Menü, bei dem man neue Geschmacksvarianten gegenüber der klassischen französischen Küche erleben darf und darüber hinaus eine gewisse Leichtigkeit der Speisen verspürt. Man freut sich auf den nächsten Besuch, dann aber mit dem kompletten Gourmetmenü.

The 3-course menu to try out the restaurant motto “Fine Dining rethought, informal and unusual” is an excerpt from the 6-course gourmet menu with beverage accompaniment including aperitif, wine accompaniment, coffee, digestive and the original Kettwig table water. But what does this promise mean?

The “starter” consists of three small delicacies, served with high quality and gives a first impression of the cuisine. You already know where the journey is going. Lightness is a central aspect. Before things really move on, freshly baked bread with foamed curry butter is served.

The menu starts with “Tomato / Watermelon”. The two components are supported by a Parmesan crumble, which on the one hand has a certain bite, but on the other hand forms an intense counterpoint to tomato and watermelon. Add the watermelon as a sorbet over the small salad, rounded off with Belper Knolle, the very finely grated cheese. The lovage gives the dish another special touch.

We continue with “House Chicks and Wild Garlic”. Anyone who enjoys the main ingredients pure may be surprised by the lack of seasoning. But then there is a taste explosion. In combination with the “licorice lacquer” you indulge in higher spheres and don't want to stop letting this dish slowly melt in your mouth. Simply divine. If you judge the gourmet cuisine by the sauces, the young kitchen crew has delivered their masterpiece at this point.

At the end, a triple greeting of passion fruit is served. A fruity delight, offered as foam, drink and iced form. Delicious.

The final conclusion is small snacks. The taste varies greatly from savory (with parmesan) to sweet (cheesecake ball with white chocolate). Again interestingly combined.

The sommelier supplies the right wine for each course, and interestingly enough, a Riesling sparkling wine from the Nahe is offered for dessert. But here too it was understood that a classic dessert wine would not be good for the dessert. The sparkling wine brings a sparkling oomph and fits perfectly in its not too dry version.

The service was extremely attentive, explained the dishes in detail and was unobtrusively entertaining at the same time.

Conclusion: A great menu where you can experience new flavors compared to classic French cuisine and also feel a certain lightness in the food. You look forward to your next visit, but then with the complete gourmet menu.

Das Highlight an dem Hotel. Sehr freundlicher Empfang und Service über den Abend Hinweg. Qualität und Geschmack des Sechsgang Menüs waren sehr hervorragend.

Das Tartar mit der Quitte war ein Gedicht und vielleicht die beste Variante die ich so je gegessen habe. Das Borschtsch eine interessante Idee die viel Kreativität zeigt.

Leider war die Portionsgröße teilweise in homöopathischer Größe was den Gesamteindruck doch etwas geschmälert hat.

The tartare with quince was a poem and perhaps the best version I have ever eaten. Borscht is an interesting idea that shows a lot of creativity.
