2 hour walk there and back from the parking lot up the road. You can also get a bus ride for 2000 ISK. The walk there was fine but walking back was tough due to the wind.

This plane wreck needs to be preserved! So many people jumping on it will ruin it. Very cool thing to go visit for a plane geek!

If you’ve ever dreamed of hiking through miles of black sand to see a plane that definitely won’t be taking off anytime soon, this is the spot for you. The walk feels like it takes an eternity, but the reward is worth it: a moody, apocalyptic plane wreck.

It’s a long hike, but once you arrive, though, it’s incredible. Perfect for dramatic photos and pondering how on Earth you’re going to make it back to the car. It was worth it though!

Good spot for sightseeing ! 2 hours walking both ways, if you want to get a shuttle - 22 euro. Since this year the parking is not free.
It's better to visit the plane in early morning to avoid the crowds.

The plane wreck is more graffiti than plane, also so many stickers on wreck place , I would said not worth to visit if you are having time crunching, The walk there and back is supposed to be 7km but takes 3-4 hours according to the information board (which seems very long). The shuttlebus that takes you there is incredibly expensive and uncomfortable (mainly loud). Price for round trip ticket by bus 3200 Krona and 2000 krona for one way.

I do recommend walking towards the coast, where you can take much nicer pictures and enjoy the views more.

There is a marked trail from the parking lot to the plane wreck. You can either walk or take the shuttle bus. We walked the 3.7 km in about 40 minutes. It wouldn't have been a problem, but it was very windy and it rained pretty hard for about 10-15 minutes. On the way back we took the bus and paid 2000 isk per person.
