Fantastic central base for a short solo trip to Reykjavik.
Situated on the coast immediately opposite the concert hall, the location of this hotel could not be better. 5 minutes walk from the high street for shopping and restaurants, numerous galleries nearby, and 2 pickup points for tour buses less than a minute walk from the front door.

I didn't make it to the hotel spa, but the breakfast was a great mix of hot and continental buffet all good quality and fresh. The spotlessly clean bedroom is basic but has everything you need.
The bed was a large single/small double, so would have been a tight fit if sharing but was ample for one.  It was also lovely to have a sea view! Worth noting that the bathroom is a shower only wetroom, so not ideal if you prefer a bath, but considering you have the spa downstairs and the thermal lagoons at your doorstep it hardly seems necessary.

Center Hotels have several locations across the city, but having walked out driven past most of them during my stay, I'd say this is by far the best given its waterfront location and proximity to attractions. As a solo woman travelling, it felt incredibly safe to walk to and from the high street from here, even late at night. Highly recommended hotel.

It was a nice experience to stay at Center Hotel Arnarhvoll - not a luxury hotel but very cozy and comfortable. The room is not big but enough to use. The rate might be a little pricey during peak seasons. However, the location of the hotel is so convenient to all major attractions within walking distance.

The top floor restaurant is lovely. We had breakfasts there every morning while staying at Arnarhvoll. The breakfasts are buffets with a variety of selections. There is a terrace outside. We even saw aurora so clear in the sky from there.

The staffs are friendly and glad to help. Look forward to staying at Arnarhvoll again in our next trip to Iceland.

Very tiny rooms. I've made many trips to Japan and have had bigger rooms that were much better designed.  If you don't get a room with a sea view, you'll be looking at an office building and alleyway with no privacy curtain to block people looking in.

The shower is absolutely horrible! I've never experienced such a horribly designed bathroom in over 30 years of travel!  Having a nice shower is a fundamental component of an enjoyable hotel stay and this hotel fails completely.

I very much regretted paying for the breakfast.  It was sub par. The coffee was served in a giant thermal container and tasted like it came from a truck stop.  They have an espresso machine available but I was informed that would be an extra charge even though I'd already paid extra for breakfast.  I've never experienced that at a hotel in Europe and I've spent 100's of nights in European hotels.  The breakfast buffet had nothing interesting. Just dry, flavorless scrambled eggs, sliced cheese that looked like a cheese tray from a grocery store and mass produced baked goods.

The only reason I'm giving this hotel 2 stars instead of 1, is there were a couple of staff members that were very friendly and helpful.  Thank you to Ana and Fabio for helping make an uncomfortable stay tolerable.

This hotel is NOT a 4 star hotel. The room is 2 stars.  On my last visit, I stayed at the Konsulat which is also rated as 4 stars. My experience there was many, many times over more enjoyable!

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights. We have been to Iceland quite a few times, but this was a new hotel for us. The staff were very helpful. The breakfast was cooked, continental, or more local (fish, skyr that sort of thing). All options were good value and buffet style, so as much as you liked.
We thought you would struggle to find a better location for a hotel.
The rooms were adequate, the reason I say this is that it is advertised as a 4 star hotel but I don't think it would hold 4 stars in another European country. The rooms were pretty quiet. Where it does excel is its location and the Sky Bar on the 8th floor. The views are simply amazing, Happy Hour brings most of the drinks down to a normal price.
We would stay here again as on the whole it is a great hotel.

We booked a twin room for 5 days. The room was alright size wise. We managed to move the bedside cabinets and beds to where we found them more useful and plug accessible. The bed was comfy but a bit hard. Pillows and duvet lovely and soft. We had sea view over to Mount esja which was nice. The plug sockets on the desk didn't work, so we moved one little table by a wall socket so that we could use the kettle. The TV also kept going black and switching off, we continually had to turn it back on after 20 or 30 minutes. It was very dry in the air, and we both had very dry throats and mouth at night. We ended up sleeping with the window open. The shower was very small and there's a tool to clean the floor of water in the shower, which I had to use whilst showering so as not to flood the bathroom. I found that a bit awkward. The mirror didn't clear itself it's not heated, so if your wanting to use a. Mirror after a shower, you have to wait for the room to clear. Apart from that, it was comfortable.
The outside.. Well, in the 5 nights we stayed, we told the concierge about empty bottles and cans half drunk outside and on the last day someone had thrown up outside, but it wasn't cleared up, and we had to walk past it to leave in the morning. A bucket of water would have cleared it. Also indoors, they had just placed a towel over it and a triangle warning, waiting for the cleaners to come in and clear it, which I found unacceptable and lowered the standard of the hotel. The breakfasts were quite good choice wise, as a vegetarian there wasn't much of a hot breakfast option, baked beans were cold on the morning I had them, as was the scrambled egg, so I stayed with the fruit and yogurt and bread and cheese for breakfast. The service was friendly and good, however there was a real language barrier and most staff were foreign, and not Icelandic which added to the language barrier, for example, the hot hash browns were all gone and I had to lead the staff member to the tub and open it and point to it to get the staff to understand what I was trying to converse. It was fine and really friendly but just at times awkward when you had a question. All in all I wouldn't rate it a 4 star hotel because of these things, but more a 3 star hotel. The atmosphere and environment were lovely and we enjoyed our stay. We will be back to enjoy the Sky Bar within the hotel and I still recommend it as a. Lovely place to stay.
