This is a historic hotel in the very center of the city. We didn’t expect funky, shiny rooms, but rather an authentic atmosphere. However, the hotel could benefit from better quality mattresses.
Our booking confirmation noted that the check-in desk was only staffed until 10 PM, so we were worried when our plane was delayed by 7 hours and we arrived at 5 AM. Despite this, we were warmly greeted and could negotiate a later checkout for a small fee, allowing us to catch some sleep.

3 night stay here. On arrival late in the evening (after being ripped off by taxi driver from airport) the woman attending reception was dour and abrupt! Our room (102) is perfectly acceptable. Clean. A bit tight for space. Warm. Comfy beds. Kettle. Hair drier in bathroom is pretty useless (as many hotel wall hairdriers tend to be) but Baiba was happy to find me a 'conventional' option which did a good job. Plenty of piping hot water. Shower pressure brilliant. Guests are given the choice of either having a free drink every day in the rooftop restaurant or a room clean (in the attempt to help the environmental aspects of using laundry water sparingly). Not a bad concept. Breakfast choice I would say was limited. No decaffinated coffee available. This older hotel building seems to be maintained well and apart from the staff member we encountered on arrival who was truly unpleasant, I would recommend for sure. The other staff, especially Baiba, went out of their way to be helpful. Location in the old section of the city enables easy walking distance for majority of sights, especially at this time of year, if your 'thing' is a traditional Christmas market.

The hotel location is in the city center, litteraly 50m away from the cathedral.

Sadly, we had a standard room, located in half buried floor and the bar nearby is very very noisy until late in the night so we had a real hard time sleeping and during day time, you have very dim natural light.

The hotel staff is however very friendly and helpful. Kudos to them.

The breakfast is really great. I would definitely recommend the hotel if you have a above the ground floor.

Room was a lot smaller than I expected for the price. Tea/coffee making facilities could be improved - a carton or two of uht milk would help. And a fridge to keep water cold. Breakfast was limited, hot food really not so hot tbh.
Great location though.

We  were very happy with the location and quality of the hotel. The staff are very helpful and friendly. As a vegan, breakfasts were very difficult, but if you need alternative milks just ask the staff they have it but in the back. One thing missing from breakfast was maybe a fruit salad. They had some fruit out, but I saw so many people buying fresh berries and watermelon and cherries at the markets that it would have been so nice to have some of that at breakfast. I highly recommend staying here.
