Great location - the city can be explored by foot! Nice rooms and great public areas in a historic building. Awesome decoration, nice spa area, great rooftop terrace with pool and jacuzzi.
Breakfast a little monotone - no day-to-day variation.

A real gem of a hotel. The rooms are lovely and the staff are amazing. We took the half board option and were really pleased we did, the food was fantastic and the menu changed daily. Great infinity pool and spa area too. Will definitely go back; can't praise the hotel enough.

Loved our stay at the hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Claudia gave us lots of good advice. Great breakfast with lots of pastries but also a lot of fresh fruits. The rooftop pool was awesome. The rooms were very spacious. I would definitely recommend staying here.

What an amazing hotel!

Our first time in Madeira and we opted for Funchal as we wanted somewhere with bars/restaurants and attractions on hand.

Looking for hotels brought up lots outside the city (which we didn't want) and then we found Castanheiro...

Great location.
Fabulous rooms - ours was HUGE with a small kitchenette.
Amazing bar(s) and restaurant.
Rooftop pool and jacuzzi.
Incredible spa (we had great treatments from Maria and Aniceto)

The staff were all fantastic and a special shout out goes to Jose who we met at the pool bar on our first day. He went out of the way to help us and was such a friendly guy. He even went off the cocktail list to make me a fantastic negroni.

💯% recommend this hotel.

We had a wonderfull stay. Our room was on the third floor. The room had a staircase to enter but that was totaly fine. The view from the room looked over all the Christmas lights from Funchal. It was amazing. Everything was very clean. Christmas cookies as a present, thanks! We liked the breakfast and the staff. They were all friendly.
Location is great, nearby everything to see in Funchal. Car park was also a great plus.
