Such a gem! We drove over an hour from our hotel to come here and it was 100% worth it! The restaurant has a casual tavern-style feel but the food is elevated and very high quality. We got the tasting menu + the wine pairing and it was amazing. Our favorite were the snacks they served as the first few courses—so fun and whimsical, beautifully presented and delicious of course. The staff were all so friendly and they made the experience that much more enjoyable. O Balcão is definitely worth a trip if you are staying nearby.

Beautiful culinary experience with outstanding food in a gorgeous and cosy setting. Kudos to the team for catering with full dedication to the vegetarian in our group. Seafood risotto with pistachio was one of the many highlights.

This restaurant is amazing! Starting with the couvert, it is simple, but very good. The little fried shrimps were a pleasant surprise. The starters were the trout with bimis, which was in the perfect point of confection, and the creamy rice with crab and crayfish, which I absolutely recommend because it was divinal! For the main courses, we ordered one of each. Mine (the siluro), unfortunately, was the one I enjoyed the least, despite being good, in particular because it had a small amount of fish (protein) compared to the others. The croaker was very good, the veal cheek was excellent and super tender, but the highlight goes to the gratin, which was absolutely incredible, I totally recommend it!
The desserts were also wonderful, particularly the one I ordered, “café das velhas”, which was amazing and I suggest you order it, to finish your meal in the best possible way!
Overall, this was a great meal and you should definitely go to Santarém and try it out!

I had such a unique and pleasant gastronomic experience in the tasting menu. Every dish was made with local ingredients, and very artistic presentation. Each plate showed the idea, time and energy spent by the chef. Service was excellent.

We stumbled upon this fabulous restaurant when en route back home to Cascais. The menu is SO different to the normal Portuguese BUT it’s all locally-sourced ingredients and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious…highly recommend it (I just need to try and remember the red wine name…we LOVED it)
Even the chef popped out to say hello to us…it really was such a great way to end our short road trip. 🇵🇹
